What is my superpower? 🤔

I’ve been thinking about this since yesterday’s amazing event with Santander. Listening to Sarah Willingham speak about her career and businesses was extremely inspiring. Sometimes running company can be quite lonely and we don’t often get a chance to step back and reflect as often as we need too!

‘Leaning into your superpower’ and ‘going with nature’ (what you’re naturally good at) were key ingredients to being a successful entrepreneur. I spin so many plates that I’m unsure if I even have a superpower as such, perhaps spinning so many plates is mine… 😅 Anyway I’ll be thinking about this during my time on this program. I find self reflection is hard when you’re trying to see the positives sometimes…

Anyway (before I ramble) some little nuggets and thoughts I took away from yesterday:

⭐️ 13.2% of founders in 2023 were women.
⭐️ Delegate… if you don’t, it will be the bottleneck of growth.
⭐️ Comfort and growth can’t ride the same horse.
⭐️ We all have dreams but in order to make dreams into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline and effort. (Jesse Owens)
⭐️ Surround yourself with good people, get rid of the toxicity - in and out of work.

STAYING SAFE WITH MONEY ONLINE

The Financial Workshop today was around staying safe online! Over £1.2 billion was stolen from fraud in 2022! 80% of which start online and 18% over the phone or by text messages/emails! Stolen cards and ID theft was up 30% last year, equating to £110.2 million in this area alone!

We covered lots of topics around this today and worked on creating safe/strong passwords, that aren’t easy to crack - so not using pets names, address, dates of births which are common go to’s!

- How to manage and spend money online safely

- Why it is important to keep your information safe and secure
- Why you shouldn’t use the same password for lots of different account
- How to create a strong password
- How to tell us a website is secure

Wow. What an event to be involved in! 🙏 I was extremely honoured to have been invited to be a dragon as part of the Dragons Den event held on Tuesday. Hearing the students pitching their business ideas was really incredible, such an inspiring evening. 🤍

Happy New Year to you all!

What a year 2022 has been...

A milestone for me of 10 years at OVF and I am as committed as ever to continuing to help all of my clients and potential new clients in the coming years with their financial and mortgage needs.

A huge aim for 2023 alongside giving advice, is to provide accessible knowledge and education to not only to my clients, but to young adults, students and children with anything money related! In 2022 I was accepted as a Business Adviser for the Young Enterprise UK and will be working with these students in 2023. I am also the 4th Dragon at a Young Enterprise Event in Partnership with Evosite on 31st January too, which I cannot wait for!

I will also be personally running Financial Education Workshops with a number of primary and secondary schools across Somerset in 2023.

As you can probably tell, I am very passionate about sharing the knowledge I have with others and if I can start getting some education out there I will be... all starting in 2023!

Lots of exciting things to come! 👀

Money & Mental Health 🧠🤍

With the cost of living crisis, increasing costs (it seems from every direction) and a record level of debts, I have been becoming aware of the effects this having on my clients and their mental health. During my appointments we have honest conversations regarding income, outgoings and any debts. At times I can feel the worry, anxiousness and embarrassment of my customers when they are discussing this with me.

I'd like to think that my appointments are a safe environment for my clients to discuss their situation honestly with me and for me to give back advice, recommendations, reassurance and a plan moving forward. There is no judgement at all.

I don't just offer mortgage and protection advice. I am working hard to establish a trusted space to ensure money can be discussed without embarrassment or stress, to try and reduce the impact money can have on your mental health and to build on peoples knowledge with education and understanding.

Sometimes simply talking to somebody can make you feel better. Any appointments with me are completely free of charge and I will be that ear. I'd hope to also be a source of information and advice for you too.

COMPOUND SAVINGS EFFECT

When you break down a BIG GOAL, into smaller goals... it makes it a lot more attainable. You can also reap the rewards of smaller, consistent actions.

Whether you are saving towards an emergency fund, a holiday, a house deposit - put a plan in place, save the smaller amount consistently and it will soon add up!

I have illustrated larger amounts here, mainly for First Time Buyers and Home Movers to plan to get onto the property market or upsize, but the principal behind the 'Compound Savings Effect' is the same.

TO DO - Set yourself a savings goal for 24 months time, it doesn't matter how big or small it is and run the following calculations, to determine how much you would need to save each day, each week and each month... THEN, start doing it immediately and see what happens in 24 months time.

Per Month - DIVIDE YOUR TOTAL SAVINGS GOAL BY 24
Per Week - DIVIDE YOUR TOTAL SAVINGS GOAL BY 104
Per Day - DIVIDE YOUR TOTAL SAVINGS GOAL BY 730

💡You may find it easier saving into an account where you forget about it and it just grows... A NS&I savings account could be good for this!!
