Most of all the damaged fin boxes I see are lateral breaks.. i.e. sideways pressure on the fin

So here are a few tips to protect your board.

✅️ If you're at the beach, dig a hole for your fin. So the board can lie flat safely.
Or remove the fin..

✅️ On harder ground, remove the fin or place your board fin up.

✅️ Always ensure the water is deep enough to launch before placing weight on your board.

But if the worst does happen, get in touch, and we'll get it fixed and back on the water.

OK.. maybe one more patch and more glue will work..!

NOPE..! 🤦🏻

Seam leaks occur due to the inner band of the board separating. By patching the area, you are simply masking the problem and actually making it worse.

If you want help with a repair, we are happy to guide you through it.

* For reference, our patch was applied after the rebuild to protect the weekend pvc caused by the damage in the "self repair."

It's like it never happened..!

Getting the repair to look good is a consequence and benefit of time, patience, and acquired skills.

Meticulous attention detail happens in every aspect, from initial inspection to the final pressure testing.

Well that looks a little better 😎.

Doesn't matter how many patches and how much glue you use. With seam leaks, it requires a reconstruction, so patches just won't do the job.

I'm really happy to clean this board up, fix the leak, and get it back looking a lot better.

If you have or are struggling with a self repair, get in touch, and we are happy to do the work for you.

This Red handle needed a bit of care and reattaching after a few years of abuse, heat, and salt water.

Some careful deck pad work, and we've got it reattached and stronger than ever.

Any issues, big or small, we're here to keep you and your board on the water.

Beautifully clean seam repair for this ageing starboard. 😎

Single band boards aren't easy to repair as there's no room for error. There's no backup like double skinned boards.
Luckily though, I've done one or two before 😜

Any issues with your board or need advice and guidance..

Covering the board in glue won't fix a leak/puncture.

Whilst we love an invisible repair, when we do use patches, we keep it neat, tidy, and keep the atheistics of the board.

All our patch work is guaranteed to last so you can paddle worry free.

Fair to say the customer attempt at fixing their valve didn't go well..🤦🏻.

So after removing all the pieces and rebuilding the area, I was able to get it all back like nothing had happened and ready for more adventures. 👍🏼

Should you want any advice on self repair, I'm here to answer your questions.
It's better to ask, then make a mistake that's costs you more money.

So much of this repair is under the surface.
Tearing of PVC is actually quite rare given the tensile properties and will often be caused by an external influence.

Really enjoyed the reconstruction, and I am thrilled we can return the board back to be used again for many more adventures.

Superglue, gorilla glue, stormsure, and even bathroom sealant.
Fair to say the customer tried everything to seal this themselves!

However, the seam underneath has completely ruptured. So after a lot of cleaning and rebuilding, I've been able to remove all evidence of a repair.😎

Another hungry mouse took a liking to the floor in this kayak.🤦🏻

This took a bit of a rebuilt and some lateral thinking due to the thickness and curvature of the floor, but thrilled with the result, and it's ready for more watery adventures.

Someone got a little happy with the heat gun during a self repair, which melted the board, compromised the dropstitch layer, and caused multiple leaks.

But a call to us, and a little bit of work later, and the board is leak free and looking pretty good. 👍🏼

Whilst I am happy to encourage self repair, please seek advice from me before you start. Whilst something may appear simple, there are lots if things that can go wrong and end up costing you money.

Just needed a careful touch to get it looking perfect again. 😎

It can be a bit unsightly when the deck pad starts to lift. Also, they're a bit temperamental when it comes to reacting with adhesive.. Luckily, I've been around long enough, and I've done enough repairs to know what works and what doesn't.. Well, for a lasing repair anyway 😉

Even the smallest jobs require attention and focus. Whether replacing a D-ring or a complex seam rupture, each job gets the quality it deserves.

Summer is coming... Is your board ready?

Needed to make a couple of incisions for the perfect result.
This board and a fleet of 9 others all needed new handles and reinforced foot plates due to the high volume of self-resuce use. (Hire boards)

Increasing the size of the foot plate helps to spread the force applied to the handle. Then, by using a handle with a stronger and tighter weave.. mission complete. 👍🏼

*handles are not designed to withstand the repetitive lateral force applied from self rescues. They are designed, for the most part, to support the boards weight when being carried.
So if yours breaks, remember it's not the board/brands fault..

Sometimes, it's more than just a break.. for this fin box replacement, I needed to craft a new PVC skirt as the old was too damaged to reuse.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with the result.. clean, tidy, and more importantly, ready for the water.

Be honest. When was the last time you cleaned or serviced your valve..?

It's a main component of your board, and dirt and grit can build up underneath, causing air leaks.

Within your repair kit, you will or at least should have a valve spanner.

So, How to do it..
1) Deflate your board..
2) Use the valve spanner in an anti-clockise direction
3) Remove the upper valve * Do not try to remove the lower section
4) Clean the valve seat on the board
5) Clean the valve and seals, remove any deposits
6) Make sure the plunger operates smoothly and doesn't stay open.
7) Reinsert your valve and hand tighten in a clockwise direction. You may need to use downward pressure if the lower half starts to spin.
8) Use the valve spanner for the last few turns to make it tight..
