The Walled Garden
Locally grown fresh flowers from my walled garden in Somerset
Did you know that the heart of a forget-me-not is yellow. This is the pollen and once it’s been gathered by a bee it turns white ❤️
This was a moment! One bed filled and the planting was able to begin 🙌🏻
I’ve started the raised beds 😀and I can’t tell you how happy this makes me! I thought I’d try the raised metal beds, these are from Blumfeldt. To fill each one I’m putting a thick layer of cardboard, followed by small offcuts of wood and thin branches. After this will be grass cuttings and all the kitchen veg scraps, then the soil. Each bed will need a top up each year as the wood rots down and nature takes over…. I’ve six of these beds to do! I’m hoping to plant mid to late summer, fingers crossed… it’s so good to be in the garden again!
Walking around the garden in the drizzle today, I came across a few things I wish I’d known before I introduced them to the beds.
Sweet Rocket - a beautiful white or purple flower, full of bounce and fanfare. Let it go to seed and it spreads like anything! It’s currently all over my garden.
Ox Eye Daisy - a favourite flower of mine, but my word it spreads!
Fennel - the smell is intoxicating I love it! But the roots go straight down…. Deep!
Now possibly if you were to cut them back before seeding it may go a little better, but I love the seed heads of these plants.
This year I’m cutting back!
The first of the flowers out of the garden this season
Bed clearing…
I’m a little late to this as the new house took over my time. But the old plants protected the soil and new growth underneath, so I suppose it’s a win win.
It’s difficult putting time pressures on yourself in any aspect of life and I’ve learnt that those pressures can take away any pleasure of the task in hand… so this year it’s about savouring moments in the garden.
For the past few years I’ve allowed self seeding in my flower beds and last year I found myself with very little space for the plants I grew in the poly tunnel. This year I’m ripping out! If I didn’t plant it, it’s out (although I usually take it home and plant in the garden! Im terrible still and throwing on the compost)
It’s great gardening weather today.. 🌸
They shouldn’t be out just yet, but here’s an identification picture for you… let’s be kind to them ❤️
Sweet peas ready for planting in the poly…
Cheerio 2022… why hello 2023!
Lots to prepare this spring, beds to tend, seeds to sow, autumn starters to plant out.
Happy New Year to you all, here’s to making more wonderful memories with the lovely people in our lives🥂✨🌸
Christmas Eve morning…
What a journey this year has been! The heat, house move to a renovation project, caravan life, the rains and most recently the freeze. Then there’s the cost of everything!
I’ve missed the garden due to the house move and I can certainly see the garden has missed me. But I have my autumn plants coming along nicely, it just means I have a fair amount of work to do in early spring getting the beds ready.
Leaving the beds this year has allowed the birds to forage, insects to galavant and protect the soil.
Thank you to everyone that has supported the garden this year, knowing my flowers are being enjoyed in your home, warms my heart.
Wishing you a really peaceful Christmas and a new year filled with special people
✨🥂✨
The last of my Christmas door decorations going out today 🎄🥂✨
A wonderful evening with these five ladies. Thank you Sarah for a wonderful supper too 🎄 Merry Christmas 🎄
I know it’s nearly Christmas but I can’t help but think of next years blooms!
A Christmas wreath off to Surrey… 🎄
Christmas forage…
November 1st! This Cafe Au Lait was cut to the floor not so long ago as I couldn’t get the spider mites under control. Just look at it now! It’s so happy in the corner of the poly tunnel. I don’t lift this one so the tuber must be huge… wow though 😍
A wreath for my Daughter ❤️
The last bucket of flowers from The Walled Garden delivered… Can you believe we are a few days away from November!? The big clear up of flower beds, new compost heaps, dahlias to dig and store. Plenty to do next month, then we are into wreath season… hooorahhh 😀🎄
A beautiful autumn wreath ready for its door…
Hmmmmm…. The ground is still hard I guess
Brighten your door with a beautiful hedgerow wreath..
Environmentally friendly, no wire or foam…
These wreaths last for weeks as they take on a more autumnal feeling. But once you want a change, pop this one straight into the compost bin ♻️
Wreath shown is for sale @ £25
Autumn wreaths are fast approaching… and we love them! Make sure you order early as they are pretty darn popular ❤️
A DIY bucket going out today… I’m cutting in the garden for drying mostly as my season is coming to an end. It’s been a busy year moving home, poorly dog, building works and the garden has had to take second place and we know very well that it takes unkindly to being in that position! The garden soon tells you! But just look at the Cosmos! They remind me of my Mum
Drying season…
These seed heads hold a thousand possibilities
Work in progress… this time of year, I never come back from a walk with the dog empty handed. The trees are turning so early, more to do with the lack of water I think. I do love natures final flourish though, the colours, smell and the temperature 😊
Wreath season has arrived at The Walled Garden
☀️☀️☀️☀️
Due to the scorchio weather.. I’m having to close the flower stall for a while. Hopefully the rains appear and the flowers recover 🌸
I’ll keep you posted
In the meantime… a huge thankyou to everyone that’s popped by and picked up a bunch 🌸
