Doolittles Campsite

Situated in the beautiful village of North Curry we are a small family run campsite. We are a Campin Open from the week before Easter until mid October.

Well spring has sprung and we're finally fully dried out. Hopefully there won't be too much more rain for a while.

We are fully open and guest ready.

Here are some new arrivals. Our last 2 ewes have both had triplets to close lambing season on a high. Our new ram who I've dubbed Gentleman Jack or Jack the lad (if he's naughty) has done his job and has lots of chunky offspring who are all growing fast. Some are nearly as big as their mum's already.

Looking forward to seeing you all in person this year.

Hello friends & campers,
We were due to open at the end of March for Easter but it's fairly wet here and still raining.

Due to current wet weather and waterlogged fields we would ask campers to phone a few days in advance of their visit to check that our campsite is dry enough.

Many thanks

There's nothing like a Boxing Day walk! And whilst we may be biased, we do think that the Cliff-top Walk is one of the best routes with some of the best views.

On Friday the cost per pitch (unless prebooked) went up to £20 per night due to rising electricity costs. We hope we won't have to raise them again this year, but unfortunately it can't be guaranteed.

Don't worry if you booked in advance, the price quoted at the time of booking will be honoured.

Jubilee cake party on the site just started. If your passing by call in. Donations for North Curry Jubilee bells appeal.

Not posted for a while so I thought I should post an update. Here on site we've been making the most of the talented crafts people locally. Our son David has been hard at work on a new camping pod and a picnic table for the Shepherd's hut. While our friend Andy has made a gorgeous new fire pit and painted the picnic table. The Shepherd's hut will be super swanky for the summer 2022.

Our beautiful weeping willow tree needed a trim. We don't want to lose it but it was over hanging the toilet block and was in danger of falling on it.
So our friend Richard Eade came up from Cornwall to make it safe and brought Josie's brother Harley too. First sunshine since they left so I was able to take some snaps.
It looks dramatic but by next year it should be looking great again and the goat's had lots of tasty leaves to eat.

Something special arrived in the post today. It was a lovely surprise and very unexpected as we've not been nominated before. One of our lovely guests has nominated us for 'Best CS' (certificated site).

Members recognise campsites that have won the title of ‘Best CS’ in the Camping and Caravanning Club annual Best CS Competition, as being sites highly recommended by other Club members.

Thanks to whoever nominated us and to anyone who votes for us in this competition. Being recognised like this makes all our hard work worth while, although our main objective is always to have happy campers/guests.

Josie's brother Harley is visiting from Cornwall for a few day's. So it was time to get the camera out. Can't get one of both of them together as they never stand still and run around all the time.

Hello everyone. We've been a bit busy recently and the Shepherd's Hut has been very much in demand.

We have just realized that some of the queries coming from our website have been sent to our spam folder by mistake. Gmail doesn't differentiate between a booking enquiry or someone trying to sell us something. The wonders of technology!

If you want to message us please could you email our '[email protected]' address directly please?

Many thanks, campers

Our site BBQ inspector Josie is ready and waiting for guests to arrive and eat al fresco.

Some picture's of this year's lamb's as requested by many. The 2021 lambing has been fairly successful with 3x triplets. Couldn't get them in the field as they don't stand together very often. As there are so many lamb's they are having a bottle as well. 2 boy's and 1 girl (who's the smallest). Dad called her tiny Tim, even though she's a girl. I've dubbed them Timothy, Timothea & big Tom (he's huge compared to the other 2).

OUR APOLOGIES BUT DOOLITTLE'S CAMPSITE WILL NOT BE OPENING FOR THE 2020 SEASON.
We are normally open during the hours of British summertime, but we have decided not to open until 2021. We do not wish for anyone to catch Covid 19 and John & I are not as youthful as we once were and John & Liz both have asthma.
At the moment the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) has published regional values for R in England with the South West having the highest range at 0.8-1.1, putting this area at higher risk.
With the dry/hot weather and Covid19 restrictions, we have more sheep than normal and food/grass are at a premium. The sheep are enjoying having a bit more grass to eat and the cost of feed & hay is kept to a minimum.
Before lockdown was announced we were refurbishing our shower for the 2020 season, which is as yet not finished and the water is still off on site.
We are crossing our fingers that we will be able to open again for the 2021 camping season with a new shower room. We look forward to seeing you all next year, keep safe & well.
Love Doolittle’s Somerset

UPDATE - DUE TO CORONA VIRUS CONCERNS WE WILL BE UNABLE TO OPEN ON 29th MARCH 2020. We will follow government advice when it is safe to re-open.

So today was officially the last day of the 2019 season. After a slow start to the year we had a very busy summer and autumn. We met lots of new campers this year, as well as seeing many of our regulars, which is always nice.
The Shepherd's Hut was listed on Airbnb for the first time and has been really busy too. It's great to be able to share our quiet corner of Somerset and our little small holding with our guest's. It's easy to forget how fortunate we are here in our rural haven. So it's lovely to be reminded by happy guests.
We hope you all enjoyed your stay(s) with us this year and hope to see you again in 2020.
Thank you also to our lovely helpers who help keep us all sane and Wendy & John married! It's always a team effort to keep things running and we are lucky to have a really great one. Thanks everyone x

Just took some updated photo's of the Shepherd's Hut tonight before guests arrive tomorrow. It has new curtains this season, very shabby chic.
We are listing the Shepherd's Hut called 'Cherrywood' on Air bnb so it can be booked online too.
We also have a PayPal account for the site now too, so payment can be made digitally on arrival if you forget to stop at the cashpoint.

The weather reports say Easter will be a scorcher this year. Great weather for camping and caravanning. We still have a few spaces left so book now to make the most of the sun.

01/04/2019

From today we are officially open for the 2019 camping season. We hope to see you again this year.

14/03/2019

Hello campers. The start of the new season is nearly upon us. The weather may be cold, wet and windy but why not book your 2019 camping holiday now? It's always nice to have something to look forward too.
For the last few month's we've been busy with lambing season, so we have have lots of new fleecy friends for you to meet.
We hope to see you soon x

08/11/2018

So the camping season has come to a close for 2018. After a slow start it's been a good year with unexpectedly hot weather. Thank you to all our friends, customers and those who help us to run the site. We couldn't do it without you.
We hope to see you again next year for the 2019 season.

Life is tough in Somerset. Nothing to do but sit in the sun and wait for tea time to come.

29/06/2018

We're here and waiting for some lovely campers to come and visit us. The weather is great and Laurie and Lonnie lamb always love meeting new friends.

It's far too quiet here! We need some campers to liven things up and enjoy the peace and quiet in the sun.
