Joy is one of our most long-standing producers having started with us in 1979 when we were still the WI shop! Her mother was a staunch WI member and suggested she joined. Her caramel slices, viennese whirls and viennese fingers are legendary. She loves a good traybake and is constantly searching out new recipes: look out for date & oat slices coming soon! Meet the Maker! Liz joined the market in the 1980s to sell the surplus of fruit and vegetables from her smallholding on the Somerset Levels. Propagating plants was a natural next step and she is always on the lookout for new varieties to try. Following a house move to a smaller plot of land she started making preserves. Her favourite recipe is her ginger marmalade as it always turns out well! When not busy in the garden or the kitchen, Liz is a Brownie leader, recently clocking up over 50 years active service in the Girl Guiding movement, and is also an enthusiastic actor and director in amateur theatrics. She thoroughly enjoyed playing the apparently batty deaf constantly knitting aunt who was really very savvy and knew exactly what was going on in the farce "Tons of Money". #discoverbathplace #meetthemaker #shopsomerset #taunton #shoplocal #jams #localfood

Meet the Maker! Dawn has recently rejoined us after some time away, & we’re delighted to have her back! Her most popular items are greeting cards, which she makes from a variety of discarded household packaging, using recycled cards and envelopes, each design completely unique. She has always enjoyed crafting, but began in earnest when she was made redundant as a way of affording Christmas gifts. Clare has been crafting since childhood, encouraged by her mum & her big sister Deb. She cannot remember a time when she wasn’t doing something crafty & creative! She enjoys needle felting, sewing, card making, embroidery, wood working, upcycling and repurposing all sorts of things, and has recently rediscovered knitting. There will be plenty of new wooden items coming soon from her recently revamped workshop at the bottom of the garden! Meet the Maker! Ann began sewing/embroidery as soon as she could hold a needle, taught by her grandmother. She inherited her mother’s sewing machine at age 7, and made her first dress by herself at age 14. As well as sewing she loves needle felting, and her felted flowers and wreaths are very popular. New in the pipeline are felted flowers in pots, and some new wall hangings, coming early next year. Meet the Maker! Patsy has had an allotment for over 30 years, growing all manner of fruit, veg and flowers, pesticide free. She learnt the art of preserving produce by bottling to help her parents in the days before they owned a freezer. Now she makes chutneys, raspberry vinegar, pickled eggs and onions, and at Christmas, mincemeat laced with brandy! As a toddler Susan used to love “helping” her grandparents in the garden, growing vegetables, and flowers. Her father was a cook & taught her to bake.
