Change is inevitable, we're changing all the time, often without realising it. Whether its the way you think or some of your habits, I'm sure there are some things you do differently today than you did a few years ago!
So if there's something you'd like to change 'on purpose', its good to know you already know how to do it!
Every day is a good day to do something positive for our mental health. But as it's World Mental Health Day today, a few minutes doing something you know boosts your own mental wellbeing, could be a few minutes well spent!

💥 Get out in fresh air

That was quite a day yesterday wasnt it.
What a beautiful tribute and an incredible display of discipline, organisation and care from everyone involved, especially the Pallbearers.......I hope they're having a well deserved day off today.
The bank holiday may be over, but I'm not sure this week will feel 'normal' at any point!

Like anything new, starting a course of therapy can be a bit scary; you're not sure what to expect, what will be expected of you and perhaps most importantly, will it work?

We all like to learn in different ways, I know I'm very much a practical person and until I actually 'do' something, I won't remember anything about it!!

How does hypnosis work? Well there are definitely no swinging pocket watches involved!!
I guide you into a 'deeply relaxed' state with the use of verbal cues and repetition. Hypnosis is not about being asleep or 'out of it', it's actually a state of heightened focus. It may seem similar to sleep (often clients feel like they've had a lovely nap!) but you’re fully aware of what’s going on and could get up and leave at any time if you wanted to.
The beauty of this 'state' means that you absorb the words you hear differently than you would if you were fully conscious........imagine, you're making the changes you want to make while you just relax!

Do you easily trust your gut feeling or that sixth sense you sometimes have? Intuition is a sense of knowing what the right answer or decision is before you make it. Using phrases like, “I can’t really explain it, but…....” or “it just feels right” or perhaps, “it just feels wrong” shows your intuition is in play.
Intuition is an unconscious reasoning and it can sometimes oppose what we might think or do consciously. It's thought to be made up of past experience and knowledge......the unconscious mind can quickly sift through these things and come up with that sense of something being right or wrong before we've consciously analysed it!

What unexpected things happen in life (they happen to us all!) attitude is key to coping with them.
Having a positive attitude will make navigating the unexpected much easier. Things that appear negative one moment can actually turn out to be positive, so accepting that change is a natural and neccary part of life can help us to feel more in control and more optimistic for the future.
To help you cope when unexpected things happen, try these 3 things:
1 Focus on what you CAN do
2 Make a plan - will help you process
3 Start doing a few small things differently - you'll be taking control
It's possible for anyone to set up as a Hypnotherapist, Counsellor, Coach,, Psychtherapist without training as they're not protected titles (hopefully this will change in the not too distant future) so doing a bit of 'due diligence' in the beginning will give you the reassurance you're talking to someone who knows what they're doing!
So if you're looking for a Therapist, think about asking friends/family for recommendations but if that's not appropriate (you may not want them to know you're talking to someone) there are several professional registers you can use to do a search. Registers like this will have already checked out the credentials of everyone listed, so you can be sure they're qualified and have insurance etc
It can be easy to assume changing habits and behaviours is difficult but change can be easier than you think.
As humans we're constantly changing........just think of all the changes youve made in your life, both on purpose and unconsciously! We know how to change and if you have motivation to change something, it can actually be easier than you think!
Clients constantly surprise me with their motivation and commitment to change. When you change how you think, you can change your life.
If you struggle with anxiety, here are3 simple things you can try for yourself
1. Moving your body when you're experiencing anxiety symptoms can be a great way of releasing them, even just getting up and going outside or into another room can help. But some form of excersise might be an even better way to centre and calm yourself.
2. Breathing excersises are well documented to engage the parasympathetic nervous system which is responsible for calming our bodies and can be a great way of instantly feeling calmer. Perhaps 'box breathing' breathe in for the count of 4, hold for 4, breathe out to the count of 4 and stop for 4 or '7/11' breathing where you take a full breath and then breathe out more slowly can help.
3. Look up! In simple terms, when we look down we tend to feel more engaged with how we feel, where as when we look up we're much more visual......give it a go and see the difference!

The way you think is not the same as what you think.........its what you do with your thoughts that matters, not what they actually are. Do you challenge them, do you chose which ones to give value to or do you listen to the negative ones and ignore the positive ones?
Take time to notice what you do with your thoughts, do you accept them as fact, or do you challenge them?
Thoughts become feelings and our feelings determine our behaviour, so what we do with our thoughts really does matter!
