We restarted our footpath maintenance team by clearing sone overgrown steps at Crackshall Lane It is just off the A4169. There are a few more wooden steps to clear, a marker post to put in and some vegetation to clear back. Richard Spencer Cotton our footpaths secretary intends to be there by about 09:30 on Thursday. Parking is very limited, no more than three cars. Probably best anyone wishing to come along and help liaise with Hamish and Richard by PM the Group and the admins will forward your message.
Some photos from a pleasant Autumnal 'short and social' 5 mile walk from The Lion PH in Priorslee around local woods and viewpoints last Thursday. The loveley autumn colours made up for the absence of the panoramic views, well it is the 'season of mists'! Excellent pub lunch after. Thanks to Carol for leading and to the Lion for the friendly welcome.
Don't miss our Annual Get Together 7pm Friday 15th November Coalbookdale Community Centre! Social evening with guest speaker Steve Dewhirst, about the history of some of our most popular paths, homemade snacks, drinks plus a brief AGM to find out what your local Ramblers volunteers have been doing for members and local walkers about leading and developing walks and footpath and planning issues in 2024. Do let us know you are coming! See you there! Members, family, friends and followers are all welcome.
Beautiful, glorious Autumn colours on Pam's walk yesterday around Dudmaston.. Thank you Pam for leading and sharing these photos.

Our next monthly short and social pub/tea shop walk is from the Lion at Priorslee 10am, Thursday 7 November. Non members are welcome. This is a dog friendly walk but we always ask that if you wish to bring a dog, you ask the leader for permission beforehand.
Today's walk from Shifnal to Lizards Wood along part of the Monarch's Way. Beautiful skies and autumn colours and full praise and thank you to the farmers for the clear rights of way footpaths through the fields. Great walk thanks, Jane fir leading us today.
Lovely countryside walk for this Thursday starting from Shifnal led by Jane W. Great to see her leading for us again after all her efforts helping organise the Ironbridge Walking Festival! A different walk from our last one from this town so do come along. Everyone welcome. See events for full details'
Looks like our Sunday walkers had a super walk today, in spite of the weather forecast. After a wet start, the sun shone and everyone was smiling at the end! Some photos from the Hope Bowdler to Acton Scott walk, in beautiful countryside. Many thanks to Gill for leading the walk and for sharing the pictures.
Tomorrow's walk is a delightful 8.5 mile wander along footpaths, fields and quiet county lanes. Starting 10am from Hope Bowdler Village in large lay-by.SY6 7DA what3words: airstrip.genius.robes
We begin by walking under the Hope Bowdler Hills before heading south around Hassler Hill towards Ragdon Farm and Acton Scott. Returning via Hatton Farm and part of the Wagoner’s Wander walk. Lovely, wide-ranging views of the surrounding countryside including Flounders Folly, Wenlock Edge and Ragleth. A few short ascents, it can be uneven in places and muddy, walking boots recommended. There may be farm animals in the fields. Ascent: 292.6m / 960ft. You'll need a packed lunch and a drink.
What a super walk today in sunny Shifnal. Thank you Helen for organising and leading the walk. Nice pub too, The Anvil, at the end.
Now come on, after all this rain you want a walk, right? On sunny Thursday this week we are walking in Shifnal, starting 10.30 from the car park behind the Co-Op. Nice walk, lots of variety, fields, woods, quiet lanes and historic old mills along a pretty brook, part of The Monarch's Way, and with an optional visit to a pub at the end in Shifnal. Some ups and downs and not too long, about 5.5 miles. Non members are always welcome. See events for full details.
As often happens when the weather forecast is dire, it turns out fine in the end. Starting today in a heavy downpour with low cloud and poor visibilty, by 11, it was merely damp. By 12 the sun had started to appear. Only 4 of us started out but we had a really nice walk around Haughmond Hill starting ftom Upton Magna. We modified Walk23 from the Shrewsbury Ramblers book to avoid a large ploughed field of mud and added a tour around Haughmond Hill viewpoints, so about 7 miles.
Tomorrow's walk will be a 6 mile Ramble around Upton Magna across fields, through woods and along quiet lanes. See events for details. The village has the oldest cruck cottage in Europe, a historic church with wall paintings and there are great views across the Shropshire Plain and local hills from Haughmond Hill if not too misty tomorrow. The walkis walk 23 from "20 more walks around Shrewsbury" and it follows a section of The Shropshire Way.
Super, sunny Shropshire Way walk around Whixhall Moss today for Shropshire Way Festival. Last of the T shirt weather for this year, under blue skies all day.
THE CAR SHARE MEET PLACE FOR THURSDAY WHIXHALL MOSS WALK HAS BEEN CHANGED. Please see events for full details. We will depart 9.30 from the long stay section Victoria Rd Car Park bottom end, it's the one nearest the bus station. NB the top section is 2 hour time limited, you must park the other end and take and display a ticket. We can no longer car share from Telford Town Centre due to 5 hour time limits and other changes.
Free guided walks as part of the Shropshire Way Association Walking Festival. A great way to explore Shropshire, and get to know our premier long distance path. It goes through the best of our beautiful county's countryside, with links to interesting villages, towns and nature reserves. The Shropshire Way is waymarked and fully supported by a website and guidebook, with directions, maps, leaflets about linear and circular walks. Non members are especially welcome on Ramblers Walks as part of the festival.
Beautiful Autumn day on the Long Mynd, even a bit of sun in the valleys though cool on the tops. Great to welcome Jane and Janet on their first Ramblers walk and first visit to the top of the Mynd. Many thanks to Ted for a super walk and the very good idea of finishing at the NT cafe.
