Freedom is a choice. We can choose to stay stuck in emotional responses and reactions that have their roots in the past or we can with directed awareness begin to liberate ourselves from the chains that bind us.

‘Do not be dismayed by the brokenness of the world. All things break. And all things can be mended. Not with time, as they say, but with intention. So go. Love intentionally, extravagantly & unconditionally. The broken world waits in darkness for the light that is you.’

An appreciation of beauty tends to be spontaneous with the right conditions coming together to bring about such an experience of wonder and awe that it feels like it is being gifted to us.

Catching the sun setting in all its majesty as we crest the brow of a hill, or being witness to that perfect light during a storm has the power to leave us feeling uplifted and energised.

These spectacles big or small are not just a feast for our senses but carry a divine signature that reaches in and touches the very depth of our being.

For these experiences to happen there is nothing we need do. An appreciation of beauty is a natural tendency but we can if we choose become more concious of this inate ability. We can actively practice appreciating beauty whenever we are out and feeling lack lustre or find a need to revitalise our optimism.

When we engage with the present moment and are curious to what reveals itself in all its detail and perfection the active thinking self retreats and with our appreciation of beauty comes a felt sense of joy and a gratitude that opens the heart and rejuvenates our souls.

For those of us who work as holistic therapists, counsellor's or energy worker's self care is an important step towards managing and counteracting burnout. Appreciating beauty is just one way to refill our cups.

What will you appreciate today?

Healing does not have to be complicated and yet we make it so thus here lies the crux of the problem. When we employ only the mind in healing we end up searching the minds endless corridors for solutions and answers. True Healing requires us to engage the heart of our being and to allow it to unfurl. To bare naked our emotional self without judgement is an act of self love & to open our hearts to the realisation that we are profoundly loved can initiate an inpouring that transmutes all in its path.

Energy healing modalities such as Reiki can assist to awaken us from the slumber of every day life and attune us to that voice within that we so often ignore or cover up.

When we honour our inner-voice and listen to our hearts we are able to make choices that allow us to live more authentically with our purpose. Quite often people struggle with trying to make a person or situation right for them rather than asking if that person or situation is best for themselves.

Through discernment we can learn to make the changes necessary to bring our 'Life Mandala' into harmony. When we live more in alignment our life energy flows more freely and we naturally feel more joy. We have more energy to do the things that bring us happiness, choices are made more effortlessly, health improves and the eyes brighten..

Many of us grew up in a culture where only a narrow band of feelings and felt experience was deemed acceptable or good. Anything that was ‘felt’ outside of the social or family norm was often relegated to the unconsciousness.

This is by no means a recent cultural tendency, for centuries the feminine felt sense through the body has been demonised or chastised in favour of the intellect.

We often hear the judgemental patriarch in our own conversations, ‘what on earth is wrong with him’, ‘she’s acting irrationally’, ‘what’s his problem’ all statements that indicate an inability to meet another at their level of emotional pain, and so the cycle continues with the closing down of experience.

Healing requires that we look within with honesty and integrity not only at our own unconscious attitudes and behaviours but our feelings as well.

Journaling can be a great medium for this making conscious of how we feel in any given moment. It can help us to better understand our attitudes and behaviours, and our responses to events that leave us feeling off centre. Writing down our thoughts and feelings without censorship on a day to day basis can increase self awareness and bring us into contact with that vulnerable place within.

True Healing requires us to embrace this vulberable part of ourselves that was never given expression to, either because it was shamed or seen as a weakness to experience such feelings. When we do this we normalise experience and discharge the long held energies that not only fuel destructive patterns of behaviour but also lead to physical imbalance.

Journaling is deeply supportive to any energy work undertaken. It can assist us both as practitioners and when receiving. It helps us to maintain a sense of peace and brings us back to our centres when we are feeling out of whack. The new paradigm being ushered in empowers us to take responsibility for our healing and when we start to give voice to the interior we find a wealth of riches waiting..

What does it mean to embody gratitude? The simple act of giving thanks for all that we receive is one of the five principals of the spiritual practice of Reiki. Fostering a state of gratitude requires us to not only say thanks, but to feel it in the very depths of our being. When we embody gratitude we open our hearts to align ourselves more fully with our true and authentic selves. We acknowledge the intrinsic divine unfolding in our lives and release any tension around lack that we may be holding onto. To embody gratitude, effectively brings us into harmony with the present moment from which we are able to move forward in a more co-creative way.

Self care is more important now than ever as the collective stress response continues to be stimulated by world events. Starting a self care routine, self healing through Reiki, eating nutritionally, limiting caffeine intake and taking enough exercise can all be beneficial to improving the quality and wellbeing of our lives. During, emotional stress or perceived threats to ones survival, the autonomic nervous system diverts energy resources to parts of the body that help us cope with that event.

The autonomic nervous system comprises of two divisions, the sympathetic and the parasympathetic. The sympathetic division initiates the stress response also known as the fight or flight response to bring about physiological changes in the body that equip us for dealing with stressful situations.

These physiological changes that take place help us to adapt to a perceived situation that is stressful, they include both the heart rate, and blood pressure increasing to prime the muscles with oxygen, and the pupils dilate to allow more light in, sharpening our vision. Blood vessels that supply skeletal muscles, the heart muscle and the liver dilate, allowing greater blood flow through these tissues whilst the blood vessels that supply the digestive system constrict, decreasing blood flow and diminishing the ability to digest. The adrenal medullas (adrenals) are also stimulated to release hormones which intensify and prolong the fight or flight response. It is only after the stressor is removed that we begin to return to a normal physiological state.

In contrast to the sympathetic response which assists us in adapting to a stressful event, the parasympathetic response of the nervous system enhances our ability to rest and digest. Parasympathetic responses support body function that are restorative, stimulating digestion, relaxing body tissue, decreasing heartrate and constricting pupils, all physiological responses that reflect deep relaxation.

The balance between sympathetic and parasympathetic activity is called the autonomic tone. Both physiological responses are necessary for wellbeing, the sympathetic helps us to adapt during periods of stress and activity whilst the parasympathetic helps us to restore after periods of stress and activity.

The problem arises however when we get stuck in the stress response for prolonged periods of time. We begin to encounter the common symptoms of upset or sluggish digestion, unable to sleep or switch off, irritability, tense shoulders and neck, dry mouth and anxiety all of which if not managed ultimately lead to exhaustion. You may have heard of the term adrenal exhaustion.

A quote by Nakeia Homer reads 'You are not lazy, unmotivated or stuck. After years of living your life in survival mode, you are exhausted. There is a difference'. How True!

If you think you are suffering from adrenal exhaustion or the prolonged effects of stress be kind to yourself, and know there are options available. Reiki is just one of many restorative therapies that may assist in helping the body to return to that point of balance between sympathetic and parasympathetic activity. It brings us back to a place of deep relaxation and can be beneficial for anyone who continues to suffer the effects of stress day on day,

The Amitabha school of Reiki is founded on the principals of both modern and traditional spiritual practices of Reiki. Historically Reiki has its origins in a variety of Eastern philosophical and spiritual practices of which Buddhist thought and Taoism (which teaches various disciplines to achieve becoming one with the rhythms of the universe) are a major part. With its arrival in the west in later years the practice of Reiki evolved to blend seamlessly with the ancient wisdom teachings to form the modern practice of Reiki that we now know of today.

Amitabha which means infinite or limitless light derives from the Sanskrit words amita 'without bound, or infinite' and ābhā 'light, or splendour'. In addition the radiant Buddha Amitabha enjoys widespread popularity in Tibet and the Himalayas as well as Japan and China and is considered part of the Lotus or Padma family. Amitabha represents our pure nature, symbolising the transmutation of desire in the emotional body but more intrinsically Amitabha represents the limitless, luminous nature of the mind.

It is in the practice of Reiki that we endeavour to connect to this infinite light within and to embody the luminous nature of the mind as it is described; and for those who have studied the Reiki symbols and mantras, the seed syllable or Hrih for Amitabha will be familiar for it is this seed syllable from which the harmony/balance symbol is derived.

In Vajrayana Buddhism also known as esoteric Buddhism, Amitabha is one of the five Tathagatas or emanations of Dharmakaya, the Atman or Highest spiritual self. These five buddhas embody the five principals of enlightenment and form a mandala, which at it's heart resides the Buddha Varicona, the primordial Buddha from which all things manifest.

These mandalas feature prominently in the monasteries of the mountainous Himalayan regions of India dating back to the 10th and 11th centuries, they also feature in many various Buddhist Tantras which are the primary object of realization and meditation in Shingon Buddhism (a school of Vajarayana Buddhism) and the esoteric lineages of Tendai Buddhism in which Mikaou Usui the founder of Reiki, studied.

The Shingon monk Dohan regarded Amitābha and Vairocana, as one and the same and regarded each as the essential nature at the heart of all beings. It is this heart, that through the spiritual practice of Reiki we seek to unveil within ourselves, to reveal our own magnificence, radiance and luminosity.

Each day I integrate a part of me, unseen, unspoken, shunned by the world. I bring it into the cradle of my awareness, gently listening, curious and inquisitive. In the depths of my being I sense the unravelling where this tension has been deeply held, unyielding it begins to warm, movement stirring like a cold winter stream thawing after a long winter. My inner gaze is now steady with acceptance and I welcome home this outcast with open arms.

Healing the Heart: These bright autumnal hawthorn berries are harvested at a time when we move through a change in season. The Haws hanging in their coats of shining red goodness contain all the vitality and nourishment of the long summer.

I love spending time with these wizened gnarly trees, which line the hedgerows, riverbanks and forest edges of our mystical countryside. They speak to us of an ancient time and like autumn herself invites us to go inward to that place where we stand on the precipice of winter.

Hawthorn is a tonic and balm for even the most unruly hearts. An inability to give and receive freely is an indication that one's heart energy is out of balance or even shut down. Loneliness results from an inability to reach out with an open heart to receiving. The more closed we remain the more painful circumstances we create. Lack of joy, anger and bitterness can all be symptoms of a heart yearning for connection.

Hawthorn gently opens our hearts and stimulates us to reach out to others, it kindles the hearth and blows on the embers of even the most dispassionate person. This ally's essence and energy signature is connected to the Christ principle.

Hawthorn medicine works gently to stimulate and nourish the heart energy, opening us up to a brighter vision of what life could be if we allow it. Working with this being helps one to feel safe in expressing and releasing any hurt that is often at the core of such heart imbalances.

I have found that plant medicine (whether a flower essence, herbal tincture or herbal infusion) following a Reiki session deeply supports the healing process.

Healing with Hawthorn
This Herbal remedy is best taken as a tincture made from the berries. Feel free to contact us for more information on how to use Hawthorn. We harvest our berries and soak them in an alcohol to extract the medicine this takes generally up to 4 weeks.

Meadow Sweet is the emblem of summer and calls for deep connection, relaxation and rejuvenation. It helps move stuck energy and leaves us feeling lighter in spirit. Its creamy frothy flowers can be found in almost any English hedgerow and its unmistakeable fragrance and uplifting notes jump out and sing with sweetness.

I have found meadowsweet to work deeply with the solar plexus energy it brings healing to the physical in a gentle and non invasive way. It helps one to relax into their body and to release tense energetic knots and contractions that block the free flow of energy.

It creates space for ease in our life and it lets us know that it is ok to be here and now and revel in the innate simplicities that life has to offer. Evoking the echo's of summer it helps us to integrate the qualities of freedom and playfulness into our daily routine. This remedy can be taken at anytime of the year when we are in need of an elixir to lighten our mood or lift our spirits.

The best way I've found to prepare meadow sweet is to pick the flower heads and leaves and then dry them out on a sheet of paper for 7 to 10 days. Once dry store them in a sealed glass jar and keep out of sunlight.

Meadowsweet is best taken as a herbal infusion once or twice a day. As with any herb, using it for a prescribed period of time will allow one to reap the benefits of the medicine of the plant. When we work closely with the being of any plant we enter into a co-creative process that paves the way for deep energetic shifts to take place.

Feel free to send us a message for more information on how to prepare meadowsweet. We also offer consultations to create a snapshot of ones energy profile and which herbs or essences would be best to help one support their healing process.

Reiki level 2 training is often regarded as the practitioner level, and as well as continued teaching methods to develop the Self, it will give the person the additional tools required to perform an effective Reiki treatment. Reiki II builds upon Reiki I, it introduces other healing techniques that will further ones skill as a practitioner and it also imparts what Okuden refers to as the hidden teachings or inner aspects of Reiki - the Shirushi or Symbols and the Kotodama or Mantras.

Working with theses inner aspects allows us to work more deeply with the vast potential of the universal life force energy. In Reiki I we learn to be mindful & present when giving a treatment. We are a focal point for the universal energy, and we simply allow the process to unfold. Our participation in Reiki II however is more active and with the use of the hidden teachings we become a co-creator with this sacred healing life force.

Reiki Level One training: The art of healing the self and others.

‘Reiki as a spiritual practice is more important now than ever. It brings us into a closer rapport with the universal truths and invites us to live from the heart, in communion with the infinite love, wisdom and grace that infuses everything.’

Reiki Level One traditionally called Shoden in Japanese is the entrance level to Reiki. Its emphasis is on incorporating a spiritual practice into ones daily life and is considered a pathway to spiritual development, healing and self love.

During our Level One course you will not only be introduced to both the modern and ancient practices of Reiki but also learn practical techniques to give a Reiki treatment to both yourself and your loved ones. These gentle, non-invasive, hands on healing techniques taught in Reiki, are the practice of channelling Universal Life Force Energy to oneself or another with the intention to balance and harmonise the mind, body and spirit.

What makes Reiki different to other healing modalities are the attunement ceremonies. In our Shoden weekend training program four attunements are given. These beautiful yet powerful ceremonies will attune you to the loving energy of Reiki and with a focus on self healing provide you with an intimate experience of this sacred healing art.

If you are interested in beginning your journey into Reiki healing and would like more information you can contact us through the messenger service or like our page to follow the upcoming events. At present we are based in Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire and very soon we will be offering courses both locally and in the surrounds.

Best wishes to you

The expression of gratitude is a deeply nourishing state of being that rejuvenates the physical body at the cellular level. In its very essence it is a virtue, and one to be cultivated and expressed at every opportunity. Our world becomes a self-reflecting mirror of love when we choose to see life through the eyes of gratitude. Saying thank you for life is the ultimate acknowledgement of life itself.
