I remember when I was young, watching Miss World on tv, and as much as I used to enjoy watching it, I can’t say that any of that glamour rubbed off on me. When I was asked if I would be a sponsor for the Ms Great Britain Classic, I initially wondered if the common view of pageants being purely about external beauty, contradicted what I stand for in my work and as a person, where it is what is on the inside that counts. However, many pageants, including this particular one, are becoming more geared towards fundraising, and one of the incentives for me to do it was because this competition supports Cancer Research UK.
As many of you will know I regularly like to support charities where I can. Given that I am a certified oncology practitioner, also accredited in the early detection of skin cancers and melanoma, and that Cleo also provides an oncology service, using her award winning semi permanent make up skills on women who are undergoing chemotherapy and experiencing hair loss, it felt like becoming a sponsor was a good platform to raise awareness of these issues and also the services that we offer.
