Created in 2001 by Dr. Richard Niemtzow, Battlefield Acupuncture (BFA) is a novel and efficient pain management technique.
Due to its ease of use and effectiveness, this technique—which was first developed for quick pain relief on the battlefield—has been widely accepted by the military and civilian medical communities.
BFA entails inserting tiny needles which have a similarity to ear-rings in certain locations on the ear. These certain auricular points, and they have been shown to greatly reduce pain as they affect the nerve signals in the ear which affect the perception of pain. In emergency and combat situations, when traditional pain management methods might not be practical, the procedure, which usually takes only a few minutes, can provide immediate pain relief.
The fact that BFA is non-invasive is one of its main benefits. In contrast to pharmaceutical painkillers, which may have a multitude of adverse effects and increase the risk of dependency, BFA provides a low-risk, safe substitute. It can also be administered rapidly and without a lot of medical equipment, which makes it very versatile for a variety of situations, such as the military, athletics, and clinical settings.
According to studies, BFA is useful for treating a variety of pain issues, including acute injuries and chronic pain syndromes. Because of this, it keeps becoming more and more well-liked as an effective tool for managing pain and offering patients a flexible and effective way to get relief.
A collection of randomised control trials have concluded that acupuncture is consistently helpful in treating acute migraine attacks.
The studies that are currently available indicate that acupuncture is less harmful than preventive medication and is at least as effective in treating acute migraine attacks. The researchers have reported that for those who are willing to receive this treatment, acupuncture should be taken into consideration as a treatment option.
Wang and colleagues found in one study that acupuncture reduced the length of migraine attacks more effectively than flunarizine.

Patients with advanced cancer are prone to pain, a crippling side effect of both the disease and its treatments.
It usually coexists with weariness and insomnia and is linked to poor functional and emotional well-being. It is frequently persistent and undertreated. Because of their epidemic-level potential for abuse, opioids have been the cornerstone of cancer pain management, but are coming under more scrutiny.
In addition, patients' concerns regarding the side effects of opioids are growing, which makes nonpharmacologic methods of treating pain more popular.
An evaluation of the long-term comparative effectiveness of massage versus acupuncture for pain management in patients with advanced cancer was carried out at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and regional sites in New York, New Jersey, and Florida as part of the IMPACT study. 298 people who had experienced pain for at least a month and at least 15 of the 30 days prior were enrolled in the trial; a clinician determined that these people had a minimum 6-month prognosis.
They received 10 weekly acupuncture or massage sessions at random, along with up to 26 weeks of monthly booster sessions. The Brief Pain Inventory (BPI, which ranges from 0 to 10; higher numbers indicate worse pain intensity or interference) was used to measure the primary outcome of change in worst pain intensity score from baseline to 26 weeks. The quality of life, sleep patterns, and exhaustion were the secondary outcomes.
Findings showed that both acupuncture and massage lowered the worst pain score from the baseline at week 26.
Both acupuncture and massage treatments, resulted in a drop in pain levels, with no significant difference between the type of treatment, however the use of pain medication dropped from a baseline of 54.7% usage among the test subjects, to 27.5% with the acupuncture group and 35.6% with the massage group.

Auricular Acupuncture can offer a realistic treatment option to relieve menopausal symptoms for women who can’t, or would prefer not to, use hormone replacement therapy.
Menopausal symptoms are common, and depending on severity, can have a major impact on one’s quality of life, health and wellbeing.
Symptoms include hot flushes, anxiety, insomnia, night sweats, sweating, mood swings, loss of words, and loss of libido are just a few of the many symptoms.

Although there is no cure for arthritis, Auricular Acupuncture can help manage the pain.
Many people suffer from arthritis. Common symptoms include: pain, stiffness, swelling and tenderness in joints, not just the hands and finger joints.
You don’t have to suffer in silence. Auricular therapy has a strong function to stop pain; often the pain will be relieved once the very small needles are inserted.

Auricular Acupuncture
I had a really severe pain in my leg for about a week, so much so I was hobbling around in pain. I went for only one auricular acupuncture session with Charlotte, and she fully fixed whatever the issue was. She put a few tiny needles in my ears (which I hardly felt) and I lay there relaxing for about half an hour and then I left. That evening the pain was a bit worse, HOWEVER, the next morning I woke up and the pain had entirely gone! Amazing! # # #

I’m on an Auricular acupuncture masterclass. These points would not all be used at the same time but show some that can be used to reduce inflammation within the body eg allergies, migraines, high blood pressure, digestive disorders. Look at the colour of the heat being released from my ear!

I'm sure this won't come as a surprise to most of my clients but I need to increase my treatment price. A soft tissue massage will now cost £55 but the auricular acupuncture remains as £50.
Thank you and I look forward to seeing you soon.
Best wishes

Massage helps injuries heal faster, study finds:
The new research, shows how a massage can flush inflammatory cells from injured muscle tissue... to promote healing, allowing muscles to repair themselves more quickly.
A massage isn’t just an indulgence — it really will help an injured muscle heal faster and stronger, new research suggests.
Athletes have long believed that a good masseur can work wonders; reducing inflammation, improving blood flow and easing tightness after vigorous exercise. But in the thousands of years that massages have been given, the reasons for their beneficial effects have not been clear.

Fingers are firmly crossed to be able to treat clients again from 12th April. Once Boris has made his announcement and the Governing Body has reviewed the guidelines I'll be in contact with everyone who has been waiting for an appointment. Not long to go now....
Good news! So excited a proposed new date has been announced. Proceeding with caution, I am holding off booking any appointments for the moment until the date is confirmed. 👂
I have a waiting list for those who were previously booked in with me and those who have contacted me since lockdown. If you would like to be added to that list, please do message me. 👂
Looking forward to seeing you in April 🤞👂
