I’ve today written to the request that Paula Vennells CBE be referred to the Honours Forfeiture Committee. Ms Vennells served as CEO of the Post Office from 2012-19, a period in which problems with the infamous Horizon IT system were continually denied.

This institutional scandal has sickened me since I entered Parliament in 2019. I’ve spoken in Parliament on numerous occasions about this. While progress has been made, it needs to be quicker and it’s about time the Metropolitan Police announced criminal proceedings.

I’ll stop at nothing until Ms Vennells’ CBE is removed; the appeals and recompense process is removed from the Post Office; and victims are given proper justice.

I’ve today written to the Chief Executives of the ‘Big Six’ supermarkets to demand our local farmers and food producers are paid a fair price. I’ve also raised the issue of single-use plastic usage, and food and fuel inflation. 📈

It’s immoral that many farmers who supply these supermarkets are still turning a negligible profit – sometimes of less than 1p profit for the food they produce - despite the supermarkets declaring record profits. This is simply unacceptable. 🥕🥔🥛

With record turnover and inflation having worked in the supermarkets’ favour, it is incumbent upon them to do the right thing and pay our farmers a fair price.

This month has seen the introduction of the Animal Welfare (Livestock Exports) Bill in Parliament. I fully support this Bill, which will make it an offence to export live animals for slaughter and fattening from Great Britain. 🐖🐄🐑

I’ve been a vocal campaigner for better animal welfare and a patron of the Conservative Animal Welfare Foundation, and I’ll continue to work hard to enhance our existing world-leading standards through legislation. 🌎

The Animal Welfare (Livestock Exports) Bill will return for its Second Reading on the 18th December. 📖

Great to meet with Simon and the team from Sherborne’s Royal Mail Delivery Office last week! Our local postal staff are working around the clock to ensure our letters and parcels are delivered ahead of the Christmas period ✉️📦 I was pleased to thank all of them and to wish them all a restful break over the festive period ❄️

Great to lead a debate today on the provision of broadband in rural areas. Broadband ‘notspots’ in our rural villages and towns risk digital isolation and exclusion. I’ll continue to push for more progress in this field ✅🛜

It was great to visit Trinity Manor Care Home in Sherborne on Friday to mark 4 years since it opened! It’s home to a thriving community of residents and staff, many of whom I had the privilege of listening to. Many thanks to Paul & Sohail for inviting me along!

This week, the Prime Minister backed by demand for fairer funding of West Dorset’s preschools. A new discretionary supplement will now be introduced in local authorities’ funding formulas to account for the smaller economies of scale in rural communities 🏫📚👶👧

There are currently 5 flood warnings in West Dorset, with more rain expected in the next few hours - especially in the River Frome and Piddle catchment areas. I’m aware of some localised flooding and I’m helping those constituents who have already contacted me.

If you experience or have seen flooding, please report it by calling the Floodline: on 0345 988 1188 or via this website: https://www.gov.uk/report-flood-cause

As always, you can contact me via email [email protected] or comment on this post, which I’ll be monitoring.

The Environment Agency are out monitoring river levels, as seen in the photo on the River Frome.

Great to see the Animal Welfare (Livestock Exports) Bill included in the King’s Speech earlier this month. I’ll continue to campaign for better animal welfare standards 🐑🐖🐄

Great to spend Friday morning with the excellent volunteers of the Home Library Service in Dorchester. I went on a delivery round in the town with the volunteers to deliver hand-selected books to some very deserving customers 📚 Thanks to the Royal Voluntary Service and Dorset Libraries!

I’m very pleased to have been reselected as the Conservative Party Parliamentary Candidate to contest West Dorset at the next General Election!

As a strong voice in Parliament, I've secured multi-million-pound investments and more services for all in West Dorset. I’ve also championed the interests of our rural towns and villages, and lobbied extensively to ensure we get a fair deal and support the most vulnerable.

I'll continue my track record of working hard for West Dorset, and I look forward to campaigning in the months ahead. 🗳️

Fantastic to visit my old Primary School on Friday, which I attended over 30 years ago! It was great to meet with so many staff and students at All Saints in Bishops Caundle. I spoke to everyone and answered lots of questions from the children, and my message was clear: ‘Always aim high and keep going’ 🙌

Last Friday I was at the excellent White Lion Broadwindsor to meet with the managers, Kerry & Clive Dammert, and Rick D**e. The community pub is such an important asset for Broadwindsor and the local area, with regular events, food and drink.

I’m particularly pleased to have discussed the Government’s recent reforms to the Alcohol Duty system, and VAT reform for for small businesses in West Dorset.

If you’ve not been to the pub yet, do be sure to make a visit and support your local! 🍻

There’s some fantastic news regarding the CB3 bus service, which connects Beaminster and Bridport! Mayfair Town & Country’s Beaminster branch will generously donate a contribution from the sale of each property towards the cost of the CB3 service.

Thanks to Simon Neville-Jones of Mayfair in Beaminster, and Beaminster Town Council’s Chairman, Craig Monks, for meeting with me at the weekend to tell me more about the scheme. Discover Beaminster

It’s always great to visit Thorncombe Village Shop to meet the dedicated volunteers - and the newly-appointed manager, Marie! I popped in on Friday and it’s clear the shop is going from strength to strength.

A new outreach Post Office van service (courtesy of the excellent Crewkerne Post Office) will commence from 20th November. It’ll be situated outside the shop every Tuesday from 09:15-11:45am.

I’ll always support our local shops, which are especially important for our rural communities. As always, if you want to contact me, please email: [email protected]

I recently visited the Dorchester’s Young People’s Service. It provides excellent support and accommodation for 18-25 year olds to help them achieve their future aspirations. I’m very grateful to Stonewater UK staff for their dedication and positive vision. 🏠📚🤝

I recently visited the latest section upgraded by Network Rail on the Heart of Wessex Line. A considerable stretch of track between Maiden Newton and Grimstone has been renewed as part of a £1.2 million investment package by Network Rail to improve reliability and modernise infrastructure on throughout West Dorset.

SHERBORNE AND DORCHESTER SOUTH TICKET OFFICES SAVED!

Following my sustained campaign and the views of customers, train companies will no longer proceed with plans to close ticket offices in West Dorset. The Rail Minister has announced that ticket office reform should not proceed. No ticket offices will close, meaning those Sherborne and Dorchester South will remain open.

I led the charge against these proposals: only in September did I secure one of the most well-attended debates in Parliament, where I outlined the disproportionate impact such closures would have on the vulnerable, elderly, and disabled.

This is a fantastic result for the interests of fairness and inclusion, and thank you to everyone who submitted their views to the consultation and my survey.

Many constituents are faced with being unable to register or access NHS dentists. I’m calling for reform to resolve the situation: I’ve consulted dental practices, staff, and our local NHS, and it is clear that the inflexible 2006 dental contract has caused much of the issues.

To better understand your experience, please fill out my survey at: www.chrisloder.co.uk/dentists

📦 This week, I visited the excellent Post Office outreach service at Uploders. It operates every Tuesday from the Methodist Church and provides mail and banking services for those living in rural areas.

🍰It’s a great example of where the community come together to support vital services - and have tea and cake too! Thanks to all those who involved and keep the service going.
