To make up for the failed Big Swim (aka the Big Sink), each member of the team will be swimming 10km. Today I clocked up 2.75km with Kay Chawner and Jamie Snarski, with support from Colin, Louise, Mary and Milly D'escrivan. Now we are getting into October the water is a bit cooler (12 degrees) so an hour in the water is about all I can manage. Where it looks like I swam in a circle was where I swam head first into a floating tree trunk . . . a good reminder to remember to spot.

Yesterday Mat & Leo joined me for the final challenge of the Big Tri 2023. A very wet & windy hike up Snowden.

In total we were a team of 24 people including 4 with Parkinson’s, 2 kids (Leo and Jess) both age 9 and 3 dogs.

We are all doing this in aid of raising awareness of Parkinson’s and funds for Cure Parkinson's

A short update on our Isle of Wight relay swim.

We left in good weather and perfect sea and Vicky successfully swam through the needles. Unfortunately shortly after, an incident onboard resulted in the boat taking on water through the bow. Action was taken to get the team safely off the boat. We were fortunate to get quick assistance thanks to two vessels nearby (Dave and Tony). The RNLI attended and the team were returned to Lymington.

Although a shock to all, the main thing is everyone is ok. We will keep you posted on what happens next…….first strong coffee and a good breakfast!

The Positively Parkinson’s have to say a big thank you to Yarmouth RNLI plus Dave and Tony in their boats. We will all be donating to the RNLI in return. Amazing service that we are so lucky to have.

To be continued…….

SWIM

Will you support us?

Please help in supporting those living NOW with Parkinson’s.

Swimming is a perfect exercise to demonstrate what can be achieved through a positive mindset. Ten swimmers, three of which has Parkinson’s, will swim as a relay team the 70 or so miles around the Isle of Wight. The swim is expected to take approximately 35 hours to complete, including the challenge of swimming through the night, in whatever conditions the south of England throws at them.

Positively Parkinson’s ambitious challenge is coached by Chloë McCardel, the World Record holder for 44 English Channel Solo Swims. Together we need your support to raise awareness and funds for Cure Parkinson’s plus help towards the costs of this major logistical challenge.

January Daily Dip day 31 cont. for Positively Parkinson’s. Wow, £971 raised so far . . . lets see if we can make it £1000! A massive thank you to , Alan Coe, Kelly Coe, Andrew Underdown, Gwen and everyone who has donated so far.

My wonderful friends turned out in force today to help me complete my official final dip for . Thank you

If you're feeling frustrated about life with Parkinson's disease, being part of a support group can be one of the best ways to reduce stress and connect with others who can relate to your experience. Care partners and family members also benefit from sharing questions and concerns with like-minded others.

I am ‘dipping’ every day in January to help raise awareness of PD and raise funds for local and national PD charities and if you haven't donated yet but would still like to it isn't too late . . .

January Daily Dip day 31 for Positively Parkinson’s. £911 raised so far . . . lets see if we can make it £1000! A massive thank you to everyone who has donated so far.

I've been away with work for two days visiting Abergwesyn Common, a blanket bog site in mid- Wales. The pools in the photo were created using dams made of peat and are one of the techniques used to help restore this incredibly important habitat. While they may have been deep enough to swim in this didn't feel entirely appropriate so I will be completing my last dip tomorrow - so look out for one last post tomorrow.

I am ‘dipping’ every day in January to help raise awareness of PD and raise funds for local and national PD charities. Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far, every penny really does help.

January Daily Dip day 29 for Positively Parkinson’s. Current total £726, you generous lot!

Wasn't really feeling it today but I did go in, despite me not being in the video. My dip was followed by a yoga session with my friends arranged by Ellie from Umbrella.Yoga. For the Ashtanga Yogis out there, I couldn't feel my feet until Navasana.

How do you like to exercise, and what is the best exercise for Parkinson’s disease (PD). Many are beneficial and no one has yet been proven better than others. The best exercise is the one you’ll do! That’s one your care team approves, gets your body moving, and is safe and enjoyable. Read more here https://www.michaeljfox.org/news/pilates-and-parkinsons-disease.

January Daily Dip day 28 for Positively Parkinson’s.

Another lovely (but misty and cold) dip today .chawner.

Yesterday I posted about the link between gut bacteria and Parkinson's. One simple way to improve your gut health and gut microbiome is to try to eat 30 different plants each week. The wider diversity of fiber-packed plants you eat, the happier and more diverse your gut microbiome will be. Nuts, seeds, pulses, whole grains fruits, and veggies are all packed with nutrients that support a healthy gut. Garlic, onion, leeks, asparagus, and whole grains are packed with particularly special prebiotic fibers that "good" gut microbes love. The good news is that increasing the variety and amount of plants in your diet doesn’t have to be difficult, especially once you expand your idea of what counts as a plant-based food to include spices, herbs, nuts, and seeds. For some inspiration, read these 10 tips for getting more plants into your diet https://joinzoe.com/post/eat-more-plants.‍

January Daily Dip day 26 for Positively Parkinson’s. Absolutely blown away by your generosity, current total £596! Thank you , Sharon and Chess.

Same place different day, and what a difference a day makes. Still a bit on the chilly side (to be expected), but some glorious lunchtime sun. How often do you get outside on your lunch break? It's all to easy to grab a bite to eat and sit at our desks, but taking a break can prevent and reduce stress, enhance your mood, improve physical health, restore motivation, fuel your creativity, improve memory and learning, allow you to reassess and keep an overview, prevent fatigue and improve concentration, improve mental health and overall wellbeing, and increase productivity. Sounds worthwhile if you ask me.

It was also great to be joined by Willow again, who has taking it easy while she recovers from surgery.
