Movement Mindset
Movement Mindset is a fitness enterprise designed to help you move well and feel better.
I’m Melissa, a qualified personal trainer, yoga teacher, CrossFit L1 coach, exercise-to-music instructor and martial artist. Movement is at the heart of everything I do, so ensuring my body is properly functional is my number one priority - and it should be yours too. I’m devoted to learning about physiotherapy best practices and creating easy-to-follow movement flows to help others look after their bodies.
Nothing beats room full of happy yogis. 🥹
If you’ve never tried yoga before, now is the time. ✨
If you have tried yoga and it wasn’t a good fit… then TRY AGAIN. 🙏🏼
It can take a lot of hit and miss classes to find a practice that’s right for you, but yoga really is for everyone - it’s just a matter of time. 🧘🏽
Our weekly class is suitable for all abilities, from beginners to seasoned yogis. 😉
We use a combination of yoga styles to benefit to body and the mind - so you can increase strength and mobility with some bonus relaxation thrown in for good measure. 🤌🏼
Drop-in any Wednesday evening for just £7. Class starts at 6:25pm, lasts around 50 minutes, and takes place in The 4F Centre, Rainhill. 🤸🏽
It’s been a while since I’ve posted on here! (Other than my weekly story reminders about our Wednesday yoga class 🎉)
Here’s the deal: Movement Mindset remains a business I hope to grow and have very fulfilling hopes for. 🤌🏼
For a long time, I’ve had the idea of developing an online library of mobility and yoga flows, accessible through a subscription-based website. 🧘🏽
This will allow me to deliver the benefits of movement to more people, all across the country and even the world. 🌍
I’ve teased about the development of this website in the past, but the truth is, life took over! 🙈
This idea, alongside a long-awaited intensive yoga training course, has had to take a backseat whilst I’ve focused on other things. 👀
This past year, I’ve devoted all my time and attention to getting a gym. A couple of months ago, I achieved my goal, taking over and becoming a full-time manager and coach. 🥹
Realistically, things aren’t going to quieten down any time soon, and so the website will have to wait. But it’s still there, lingering in my heart, waiting to become my focus when the time is right. ❤️
I hope you’ll stick with me and still be around by the time I achieve this other big goal! 😆
In the meantime, teaching and practicing yoga and mobility are still very much important parts of my life. 🤸🏽♂️
The group class I host every week in Rainhill is thriving, with lots of regular members dedicating their Wednesday nights to a fun and rejuvenating practice. 🙏🏼
If you’d like to get a sense of what Movement Mindset is all about, please feel free to come along! 🙌🏼
We’re in Rainhill 4F Centre every Wednesday for a start time of 6:25om - so bring yourself, a mat, and attend for just £7… no prior experience necessary. 🫶🏼
Thanks for sticking around, hope to see you in class soon. ✌🏼
I just LOVE our weekly Wednesday yoga class. 💛
I’ve been teaching this class for almost 3 years now. 🤯
My life has changed A LOT over 3 years, but one thing remains constant…
My love for this practice and sharing it with others. 🧘
No matter where life takes me, I’m positive yoga will always be a part of it. 🙌
If you’re looking for a group class, then come along to our Wednesday evening flow (welcoming all abilities, genders and ages) for just £7! 🤸

I haven’t been posting on social media much this past month… and here’s why! 🐾
Getting a puppy has left very little time for content. 🙈
But I’m still teaching my weekly yoga class in Rainhill and offering 1-2-1 mobility sessions and online coaching. 🙋🏻♀️
I’m also still trying my best to do my own mobility work at home every day, although it hasn’t been easy. 😆
Stretching daily has been a non-negotiable habit for me for some time now (along with going out for a walk). ✅
I understand that sometimes life can get in the way and it can be hard to stick to the healthy habits you wanted to. 👎
Your ability to show up and do what you said you’d do depends on:
1️⃣ Routine - have you consistently made the habit a natural part of your day-to-day life?
2️⃣ Discipline - can you sustain the habit even when you don’t feel like it?
3️⃣ Motivation - do you care enough about the habit?
If you’re struggling with routine, discipline and motivation, then my coaching services could be exactly what you need to finally establish the healthy lifestyle you’ve always wanted. 🔥
If you want to enjoy exercise and feel a whole lot better in your own body and mind, drop me a message or apply for coaching through the link in my bio now. 🤩
That’s a wrap! 🧘
My spirit is sparkling from the last yoga session of 2023. ✨
It’s been a wonderful year of growing our yoga community, practising fun flows each week and seeing members progress. 😍
Thank you to everyone who has attended my classes in 2023, you’ve continued to keep the fire of yoga in my heart. 🙏
We’re taking a week off over the Christmas period, so no class on December 27th. ❌
Class will return in the first week of 2024, on Wednesday January 3rd. ✅
Due to the rising cost of room hire, classes will be going up from £6 to £7 (payable by cash or transfer). I’m still proud to say we remain one of the most competitively priced yoga classes in the area, and if you’re unable to attend for financial reasons, please do get in touch and I’ll be happy to help. 💛
I’m excited to see what the New Year holds for our regular group practice. 🤸🏽♂️
Our class welcomes all abilities, newbies and drop-ins, so come by on Wednesdays for a start time of 6:25pm in The 4F Centre, Rainhill. 🙌
If you’d prefer a private session, I offer those too! Drop me a message and let’s get you practising. 🪷
One of the most common things I hear in the CrossFit community is “I need to stretch more”. 👀
You might think you’re doing your body wonders with high intensity exercise…
But you’ll soon realise that hammering your muscles day after day without fine-tuning your mobility is a recipe for tightness, pain and injuries. ☠️
I train pretty intensely, which is why daily mobility is non-negotiable for me. ☝️
Ten-twenty minutes of active stretching every day helps me to move better and prevent those annoying injuries that halt all progress. 😬
However… it’s not just your CrossFitters and highly-active people who should prioritise restorative movement. 💡
In fact, the more sedentary you are, the more important it is to move your body through different ranges. 😱
Sitting down all day is going to lead you to poor mobility and a low quality of life down the line. 🪑
So, I’m not exaggerating when I say:
Understanding how to move your body and counteract the harmful effects of a sedentary lifestyle… WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE. 💯
If you want to improve your mobility in a group environment, then come along to our weekly Wednesday yoga class at 6:25pm in The 4F Centre, Rainhill (drop-ins and newbies always welcome). 🧘
If you’d prefer private sessions to boost your strength and flexibility, I offer those too! Drop me a message and let’s get you practising. 🤸

The Cossack squat - one of my all time favourite stretches. 🙌
Apparently named after the Cossack warriors due to their distinctive squatting and lunging movements, this position could also be referred to as a lateral or side lunge. 🦵
🤔 Let me tell you why I think this position is magic:
1️⃣ The lateral movement enhances hip mobility by stretching and strengthening the muscles around the hip joint, counteracting stiffness from time spent sitting.
2️⃣ It promotes balanced development of the lower body by targeting various muscle groups, including the quadriceps, hamstrings, adductors, abductors and glutes.
3️⃣ Regularly performing this exercise improves flexibility in the muscles and connective tissues of the legs, improving lower body range of motion.
4️⃣ It challenges balance and stability, benefitting overall coordination and proprioception.
You can perform them with bodyweight, add resistance, or include them in mobility and warm-up exercises. 💯
Getting familiar with this position will also give you feedback about which areas you may need to improve range in. 👀
By working both sides of the body independently, you can identify and address any strength or flexibility imbalances between the left and right sides. 💡
If you want to improve your mobility in a group environment, then come along to our Wednesday evening yoga class. 🧘
Class is just £6, takes place every week and welcomes all abilities, genders and ages - start time of 6:25pm in The 4F Centre, Rainhill (drop-ins and newbies always welcome). 🤩

Looking for premises to let in St Helens or Knowsley (WA9-WA10/L25-L37) fitting this criteria: 1400-2500sqft., free on-site parking, open space, high ceilings (at least 16ft.), single story, not connected to residential property. So something like an industrial unit or even a barn on farmland, but must be able to be “use class E” (leisure category). 🙏🏼
Anyone who might be planning to move out of their business premises, please get in touch. 😊
I'll be repeatedly throwing this out there to see what opportunities come up as the months pass. I am in touch with estate agents and searching online regularly, but ideal property is very difficult to acquire so just doing all I can to not miss any chances! Please do share and get in touch if you think you can help. Thank you. 💛
Upward facing dog / Urdhva Mukha Svanasana. 💛
Whilst instructing yoga, I aim to make all postures accessible to the wide array of people who come to me. 🙏
We often modify this pose in three ways:
1️⃣ Sphinx pose
2️⃣ Cobra pose
3️⃣ Upward dog with legs grounded
These options allow yogis to adapt the posture to their needs, whilst still reaping all the wonderful back-bending benefits, such as:
✅ Spinal flexibility
✅ Strengthening the posterior chain
✅ Opening the chest and shoulders
✅ Stimulating the nervous system
✅ Improving lung capacity
✅ Building confidence
If you want to give yoga a go, there’s never been a better time. Our friendly group class welcomes newbies, so drop by any Wednesday evening. ✌🏽

This month we saw one of our fullest classes to date. 🤩
I teach yoga because the practice is special to me and I enjoy sharing its magic with others. ✨
For so many people to put their trust in me and show up week after week is genuinely an honour. 🙏
Coming from a fitness background, I’ve really had to be conscious of creating a class that is genuinely suitable for as many levels as possible, including absolute beginners. 🧘
To see a room full of different abilities is a joy, and I want to thank all my yogis for their support, dedication and energy. 💛
If you’re looking for a new hobby, then come along to yoga any Wednesday evening. Class is just £6 and welcomes all abilities, genders and ages. 6:25pm start at The 4F Centre, Rainhill (drop-ins and newbies always welcome). 🤸

Let me tell you a secret… 👀
I don’t go to a regular yoga class! 🤯
As a yoga teacher and mobility advocate, this may shock some of you. 🤷🏻♀️
I used to attend yoga every week, alongside workshops and events, but nowadays I can certainly relate to the many people who say to me “I need to do yoga… I just struggle to find the time”. 🗓️
And yet, my mobility, strength and flexibility are the greatest they’ve ever been…
How? 🤔
This simple answer is: 10 minutes, at home, every day. ✅
Making strides in your functional mobility really can be that easy. 🎉
I’ve made daily stretching a NON NEGOTIABLE. By holding myself accountable to just 10 minutes of movement in my living room, there really is no excuse. 🔥
My next mission is to get a long overdue project back up and running: the completion of my mobility website, delivering follow-along mobility flows for you to do at home. 💻
This is something I’m very excited to finish, because I know that daily mobility work can be life changing. 🧘🏻♀️
Keep your eyes peeled for updates, and in the meantime you’re always welcome to our weekly Wednesday yoga class. 💛
Class is just £6 and suitable for all abilities, genders and ages. 6:25pm start at The 4F Centre, Rainhill (drop-ins and newbies always welcome). 🤸🏽♂️
Have you ever considered stretching with a partner? 🤔
At the last Everyday Athlete team training day, I led a mobility session that involved some partner work. 👩🏻🤝👨🏽
Proven benefits of partner-assisted stretching include:
✅ Increased range of motion: assistance can facilitate a deeper stretch, enhancing flexibility and range in specific muscles and joints.
✅ Enhanced stretch intensity: applying controlled force can make a stretch more intense and effective and help to target muscles more precisely.
✅ Improved muscle relaxation: assistance can help the person being stretched to relax more fully, allowing for a more effective and comfortable stretch.
✅ Corrected alignment: a partner can offer feedback and assist in maintaining proper form during the stretch, reducing the risk of injury and ensuring optimal benefits.
✅ Encouragement: having a stretching buddy can provide motivation, making the stretching session more enjoyable and potentially increasing compliance and consistency in stretching routines.
It's essential to ensure that partner-assisted stretching is conducted safely, with clear communication and proper technique to avoid injury and maximise the benefits. 📈
If you’re unsure where to start, why not consider a private 1-1 session with me? Drop me a message for more information! ✨
Or, if you’re interested in a group environment, come along to our weekly Wednesday yoga class. 😍

Here’s why mid-week yoga is my fav… 😍
Most of you will be familiar with the mid-week hump: that feeling of Wednesday being the peak of a mountain, after grinding through the start of the week and before looking ahead to the weekend. 🏔️
When you struggle through your weekdays, it can feel like you’re wishing the time away, only for Saturday and Sunday to whizz by in the blink of an eye. 🤦🏻♀️
What better way to improve your week than slapping an evening of feel-good vibes right in the middle of it?! 😌
Our weekly Wednesday yoga class is relaxing, fun, dynamic and friendly - letting you devote an hour to yourself, your mind and your body. 🧘🏽
Class is just £6 and suitable for all abilities, genders and ages. Start time is 6:25pm at The 4F Centre, Rainhill (drop-ins and newbies always welcome). 🙏
They call this one… the “world’s greatest stretch”. 😯
This pose is part of a dynamic movement that targets multiple muscle groups and movement patterns. 💪
The bold name of this exercise highlights its versatility and effectiveness in stretching various parts of the body, enhancing flexibility and improving mobility in one comprehensive movement. 🔥
It's great for:
✅ Flexibility enhancement
✅ Improved joint mobility
✅ Balance and coordination
✅ Muscle activation
✅ Postural improvement
✅ Effective and time-efficient warm-ups
Whilst I try to honour the ancient practice of yoga in my classes, I also like to incorporate these elements of education around functional mobility. 🧠
If you want to better understand your body, reduce pain or simply have some fun, then come along to our weekly Wednesday evening class! 🧘🏽♂️

Aaaah, Savasana. 😌
Sure, yoga is about dynamic movement, flowing through a sequence and hitting strong postures. 🤸🏼♂️
But yoga is also about restoration. Calming the mind. Being still. 🧘🏽
We incorporate this Yin and Yang into our classes so our yogis can experience the mental benefits of yoga, as well as the physical. ☯️
For some, our final relaxation pose is the most difficult of all. It requires you to switch off, to soften and to let go of responsibilities - which are things we don’t often practice in day-to-day life! 🙈

Afternoon well spent at puppy yoga yesterday! 🐶
Got to catch up with at in this class combining two of my favourite things. 🤸🏼♂️
Anyone who breeds doggies and has litters of puppies… hit me up! 🙈
This is definitely an event I’d love to bring to Rainhill and nearby villages, sharing the fun and therapeutic vibes to my local yogis. 🐾

ANOTHER topless selfie… who do I think I am? 😅
I’ve been in the fitness space for some time now. My training has been pretty consistent over the years, but my body image still wavers. 🤷🏻♀️
When you’re in an environment where the norm is for people to look fit, toned, lean, ripped or whatever you want to call it… it can be easy to feel inferior based on your body fat and its distribution. 🎻
Ultimately, there a SO many other important things to be focusing on:
🩺 Health metrics like blood pressure
💪🏼 Performance metrics like fitness and strength levels
💯 Discipline metrics like habit tracking
😌 Wellbeing metrics like sleep and recovery
There’s nothing wrong with valuing the way you look and having aesthetic goals… but the importance you place on the way you look can be a recipe for disaster. ⚖️
I’ve found that the more you focus on the fulfilling metrics in life, the more you end up loving what you see in the mirror anyway! 💛

LET’S TALK ABOUT HOLIDAY BLUES. ☝🏼
It’s been nearly 3 weeks since I got home from a wee trip to Spain, but that feels like a lifetime ago! 🤯
Before the holiday, I felt in DESPERATE need of it, and after I got home… it was like it never happened! Back to reality with a bang. 🙈
Why does this happen? For me, it’s because I don’t give myself enough rest and recuperation, especially mentally. 🧠
My lifestyle leads me to feel constantly “switched on”, so I’m often craving a big break. But once that break is over, the responsibilities, stress and anxiety come rushing back. 😥
The solution isn’t to have more or longer holidays. The solution is the create a lifestyle that I don’t feel I need to escape from, by incorporating enough downtime and enjoyment in my day-to-day. 🌞
Holidays are great, but if you love your everyday lifestyle, you’d never really feel like you NEEDED to get away. Trips would just be a cherry on top of a happy life. 🏖️
I’m making some big changes to try and mitigate the effects of my productivity-obsessed brain and create a routine that makes me happy, with more fulfilment and less stress…
More information on that to follow. 😉
On a mission to make my day-to-day feel more like a holiday. ✌🏽
Meet Jan, our latest member of the month! 🤩
Jan has been such a wonderful addition to our yoga class; another friendly person to make us the most welcoming group exercise environment around. 👏🏼
She recently told me that the class was “the best physio she’s ever had” - it’s so amazing to hear how much people benefit from the physical and mental magic of yoga. 🥹
From recent newbie to well-loved member, we’re so proud of Jan and her progress. If you want to find your next favourite hobby in a rewarding environment, why not come along to our class this week? ⬇️

Our yoga flow welcomes all levels, ages and genders, so drop in any Wednesday for a start time of 6:25pm in Rainhill 4F Centre for just £6. You’ll be so glad you did! 🤸🏼♂️
LET’S TALK ABOUT WORKING OUT ON HOLIDAY. ☝🏼
Sometimes, a trip away is the perfect opportunity for “taking a break”… but that can mean different things to different people. 🤔
Taking a break from stressful work, overtraining, early mornings, a calorie deficit, demanding responsibilities or other things that drain your battery can definitely benefit your wellbeing. 🪫
But something as beneficial as moving your body shouldn’t be avoided, even while you’re away from your usual routine. ⚠️
This doesn’t mean you have to do gruelling workouts on your jollies; think about options like walking, swimming, local classes or lower-intensity variations of your usual training. These are great ways to minimise that groggy, over-indulged feeling which hits many of us after a trip away. 👀
Thinking longer-term, how about creating a lifestyle that makes you feel like you’re not always desperate for a break. That way, you can maintain parts of this beneficial lifestyle whilst travelling, without feeling like a drastic shift in routine is necessary for you to recharge and have fun. 🤯
During my week in Spain, I hit a couple of workouts, stretched regularly and got lots of walking in daily - far less than I would usually exercise, but just enough to help my physical and mental health! 🌞
Do you train on your holidays? 💬⬇️
