Living the life you want - by updating your emotional sat nav so that you have the latest solutions. Life is a complicated thing with many demands, knowns, unknowns, fears and pleasures. Luckily we have a miracle in our brains and that's our mind - a kind of personal emotional sat nav. It helps us navigate life's complexity without thinking. The wisdom of our life experience and solutions are programmed into it. However on occasion we come across a road block, maybe road works or an accident that can slow down our progress or stop us all together. It could be unexpected changes in our lives, redundancies, take overs at work, relationship breakdown, illness, menopause, mid-life crisis, bereavement, imposter syndrome, aging. I'm sure you can name your own. That's when we have to update our SAT NAV to get through, around or over the block so we can, Move Forward. How do we do that? By re-establishing connection to the part of our brain that is rational, creative and can find the solutions. Remember the stuck-ness is because we are lost in the unhelpful emotional responses to the road blocks. 🌟One simple way to do that is - "In any given moment Breathe and Relax" This calms the Negative Nigel that sometimes kicks in when stressed so that we can think clearly and come up with a solution and plan. 🌟And remember you have longer than you think. NATIONAL TRAIN YOUR BRAIN DAY A Positive Mind finds opportunity in Everything 😊 Often when people talk about being positive they talk about "Unbounded Positivity". The positivity that holds on to an ideal future with the belief that if we hold onto it enough it will come about. Of course there is some truth in that strategy and I'm sure it works and has worked for many. After all like Captain Sensible once said " If you don't have a dream how's that dream gonna come true?" However on occasion we can remain stuck in "Wishful thinking". It feels like we are going on holiday but not taking into account where we are starting from. Sometimes we need some other positive perspectives to get us unstuck. Here are two that focus us on our inherent resources and the here and now. -Positive awareness. This is where we start noticing what is positive in our situation. Often when our attention is captured by negative thoughts (e.g. anxiety, depression, anger) we are blind to all the resources that are available to us. This is a little bit like looking for our keys when we are overwhelmed with worry. The key are there but can't be seen. So creating a habit of noticing what is positive in any situation can unlock our minds and get us into action. -The other positive is to have an optimistic mindset. Optimism can be thought of as a belief that things will work out, that our actions will bear fruit. Instead of having a negative outcome we hold positive thoughts about the future. “Whether you think you can, or you think you can't--you're right.”- (Henry Ford) So adopt a optimistic mindset and those opportunities will become more available. Remember success comes in CANs. I love that quote as it so playfully communicates that we all have blind spots. The jar in this context is our minds and what’s hidden on the label is our “Potential”. Our potential, or aspects of it are can be hidden from us.
