Who's coming to yoga at Calstock Hall today? 1.30pm for a stretch and some enlivening poses, while we draw inspiration from the longest days of the summer. We'll even let the sunshine into the hall through the lovely big patio doors ππ§π»ββοΈπ₯°
View from my mat this evening....
Your yoga can be anywhere, any day, anytime - or even everywhere, everyday, all the time.
Back teaching again next week after recharging my batteries - but massive thanks to Jules Laville for holding the fort at Space to Move while I'm away. It's been a fantastic break so far - a few more days to go π₯° Om shanti shanti shanti ποΈ
It's Wednesday - it's time to find your mat - yoga starts at 6pm in Calstock Hall. And I may just have a new tibetan singing bowl (hmm yes, another one π€π). Yin-ny and squish-y and relaxing tonight. See you there ππ§π
For those not on the mailing list (or who missed last week's email) - here's a quick reminder of what's happening this month.
Class is on tonight (5th) at 6pm as normal ππππ©π»βπ¦°π§π»ββοΈπ©π»βπ¦°
Still some spaces for this evening's yoga nidra - why not take some time out for yourself on such a glorious day. Full of transformation and aspirations to be all you can be, its a totally relaxing and restorative experience.

What a fabulous long weekend I had at Surya Yoga Camp. I enjoyed a complete mix of classes and workshops from intermediate vinyasa flow and acro yoga to Lakita Japa and Indian Dance. I may also have indulged in a rather nice wood-fired hot tub and sauna spa experience, and tried out the lovely vegan food on offer.
My own class offerings of Hatha Flow and Yin & Yoga Nidra were really well received, with lots of lovely yogis enjoying the different practices/techniques/poses.
I was so busy having an amazing time that I hardly took any photos - so feel free to share yours in the comments, and of course make any post-camp contact with me to follow up with any questions or feedback you want.
Such a great camp - looking forward to next year already π₯°ππ»π
So looking forward to teaching at Surya Yoga Camp.
Join me there for two different sessions:
π A nourishing and complete hatha-flow-based practice with pranayama, sequences of poses and a focus on stretching, strengthening and nourishing, finding alignment that is good for your own unique body. The combination of movement and breath will leave you feeling physically refreshed and rejuvenated, emotionally inspired and encouraged, and mentally amazingly calm and serene.
π A deeply explorative Yin and Nidra session which uses longer holds in fewer poses to stretch and release the physical body, using props to support where you need it, so you can find stillness and surrender. This is followed by a full yoga nidra - sleep of the yogis - allowing you to explore the mental realm, travelling through the layers of consciousness to a place of deep understanding, and completely resting the physical body. No effort required - lie back and listen. Mmmm total bliss.
Can't wait to see everyone there ππ₯°ππ»

Thinking of starting yoga?
Considering a return after injury or illness?
Wondering if yoga really is as good for you as everyone says?
Come and find out on Monday afternoons - you don't need to be fit or be able to touch your toes - just come as you are. This 6 week course is perfect for those wishing to start yoga, who are coming back after a break, injury or illness, or for those who just wish to feel more confident about yoga or prefer a gentler class.
Book your space at https://www.spacetomove.co/service-page/beginners-level-1-yoga-course-feb-mar
The sessions help you feel more self-confident, and will break down common poses so they work for, and with, your body. Every body is different so we will look at safe alignments and options for poses that suit your unique body. As well as physical poses, we cover different breathing patterns (pranayama) and gain insight into all the benefits of yoga. Each session ends with relaxation, time to absorb all the goodness of your practice. Yoga helps you to build strength and muscle tone, and improves energy, flexibility and mobility. It helps with confidence and assists in dealing with anxiety or stress, providing useful techniques to relax and find calm. We will be moving gently, steadily developing our yoga in a small group so you get just the right level of attention.
The course is taught by Louise, a supportive, experienced, fully qualified, insured & registered yoga teacher.
No need for fancy clothes or footwear and we have mats and all the props you need in the studio.
Feel free to email/message Louise on [email protected] with any questions.

Nourish and Nidra with Louise Handy and Iris Little π βοΈ

At Imbolc we are between the midwinter solstice and the spring equinox and it is a time of new life and fresh beginnings.

In addition to our message though the Space to Move account, I'd like to send Yuletide blessings to all the other lovely people I have shared time with this year - in yoga classes, in nidras, on projects, dancing, singing and making music. May you have a peaceful and joy filled break. I look forward to seeing you all in 2024 for more fun, laughter, focus and balance π

Monday 18th December, 6pm - 7pm
An inclusive gentle yoga class helping to find calm in the midst of the festive frenzy. The class will flow seamlessly from quiet contemplation of the importance of Yule/midwinter solstice in our annual cycle, through breathing (pranayama) for stress relief and reduction of anxiety.
The physical poses and flowing sequences will help you stretch out the kinks and tensions, and will help strengthen not just muscles but also resolve and stamina. Restorative poses will draw the class back to the grounding energies of the earth before finishing with a mini-nidra relaxation in our resting savasana position. This combination of movement and stillness will prepare you for the week ahead, leaving you feeling physically refreshed and rested, and mentally clear and focused, positive about the season to come. Suitable for all levels, including beginners.

Last yoga nidra of 2023 at Space to Move or Live online through Zoom - Sunday 5.30 - 6.30pm 17th December
Find total relaxation and draw on the energies of the winter season; for Yule we will consider the longest night and the turning point to the new year with the return of the light. We will enjoy a 40-ish minute yoga nidra practice, leaving you fully rested and restored. ββ
ββ
PLEASE NOTE:
This is not a physical practice. No previous yoga or yoga nidra experience needed. All are welcome.
β
Yoga nidra is a technique designed to effortlessly guide you into a state of complete "non-doing". Your body is completely relaxed and you can rest in a space where you may enter a state of expanded awareness and deep relaxation, where you can find internal peace. Due to the type of brain waves experienced in this practice, it has been shown that a session of nidra is equivalent to up to 4 hours of sleep. This restorative practice can be applied in many different ways but whatever draws you, nidra's regenerative meditative state helps benefit both body and mind, restoring and rejuvenating, for greater mental and emotional balance and resilience.
Why not try it and find the magic...
Book via https://www.spacetomove.co/service-page/yoga-nidra-workshop or https://www.spacetomove.co/service-page/yoga-nidra-workshop-live-online
Find total relaxation and discover the
magic that is yoga nidra. A non-physical
transformational practice where you rest in comfy, cosy
stillness, this yogic sleep can assist with better sleep,
dealing with anxiety or changing the habits of a
lifetime, but at this time of year just finding a time and
place for peace and restoration may be the best gift.
β
These sessions draw on the energies of the winter
season, first looking at inner intuition and the ancient
wisdom sitting deep within us from our ancestors, and
for Yule we will consider the longest night and the
turning point to the new year with the return of the light.
Each time we will enjoy a 40-ish minute yoga nidra
practice, leaving you fully rested and restored. ββJoin us
for one or both sessions - and why not treat a friend or
colleague to some well deserved relaxation as a festive
gift.

Welcome to Essential Yoga
Having danced since aged 2, and still dancing today, I moved over time to include more and more yoga in my movement practice; itβs not only great for the body but also brings massive mental and spiritual benefits.
Iβve always been driven to seek new knowledge, and share that understanding with others so it was kind of inevitable I became a fully qualified yoga teacher. So building on that solid basis and decades(!) of experience of different movement forms, I aim to help others find the all-round well-being that yoga can provide; Strength, stamina, the ability to be still, and, yes, in due course, increased flexibility. Yoga bring benefits to everyone, and can be practiced by every body, regardless of size, shape, age, gender or fitness.
With a focus on good alignment, careful transitions, and a linkage to how each person feels at any given time, Essential Yoga classes provide a thoughtful path to physical, mental and spiritual well-being. I particularly follow the natural seasons and rhythms of the wheel of the year, and classes are designed to work with the varying needs and feelings those changing seasons bring.
My classes are friendly and empowering with a welcome for all. I aim to create a relaxed, learning atmosphere, where each person can take their practice to the level they wish, and to provide a mix of energising and relaxing asanas/poses and pranyamas/breathing. I also like to bring some explanation of phrases, terms, physiology, concepts, philosophy etc into the classes to aid understanding of the βwhyβ of yoga.
