To the people who say affirmations don't work and only scratch the surface, that's an incredibly subjective point of view.

Everyone is an individual and I have seen countless individuals use affirmations with enormous success.

There are certain things to be aware of when we use affirmations that can make them more likely to work, and if you would like to ask me more about that, please do reach out. I agree that positive affirmations need to be fine tuned for the individual a lot of the time, and that consulting with an experienced therapist (especially one trained in EFT) is a good idea if you want to get the best out of them.

HOWEVER! A LOT OF THE TIME JUST AFFIRMING THAT:

"I AM SAFE"

"I AM STRONG"

"I CAN HANDLE THIS"

Works like absolute magic.

Love this except from this month's Psychiatry Redefined newsletter - the whole person approach is so crucial in helping people actually get better! Do check out their fascinating website...

Let’s imagine a scenario. Your six-year-old child is complaining of worsening lower abdominal pain. Due to the pain, you take your child to a pediatrician looking for help. The doctor asks you and your child numerous questions about the pain: Where is the pain? When did it start? Is it sharp or dull? Does it come and go? On a scale of 1 to 10, how severe would you rate the pain?

And then, without any physical exam, imaging or blood work, the doctor announces that your child has appendicitis and recommends immediate surgery. Would you be comfortable with his diagnosis and treatment plan?

Yet this is the current situation we face with modern psychiatry! The latest research continues to show that objective, measurable variables in the body, like nutrient status. hormone levels, blood sugar, inflammation, chronic infections, genetic markers and numerous other factors all can contribute to mental health...

For many years at Psychiatry Redefined, we’ve been teaching a better way! By using a whole-person approach, where we evaluate all of the factors that can cause or contribute to a patient’s symptoms, you can leverage precision medicine to dramatically improve your patients’ outcomes. Why manage symptoms with medications when you can help patients recover?

The keystone of a good therapeutic alliance…

The placebo effect refers to the phenomenon where a patient experiences a perceived improvement in their condition after receiving a treatment that has no active therapeutic effect. In other words, a placebo is an inert substance or treatment that is given to a patient, and the patient may feel better simply because they believe they are receiving a beneficial treatment.
The placebo effect is thought to be influenced by a variety of factors, including the patient's expectations and beliefs about the treatment, the context in which the treatment is administered, and the patient's relationship with the healthcare provider. It is often used in clinical trials as a control group to compare the effects of a new treatment against the effects of a placebo.
As a result, researchers continue to study the placebo effect to better understand its mechanisms and how it can be harnessed to improve patient outcomes.
Bruce Lipton is an absolute pioneer in this work and if you haven't done so already I highly recommend exploring his work. He is a cellular biologist and best-selling author who is known for his work on the relationship between consciousness, biology, and genetics. His books include "The Biology of Belief," "Spontaneous Evolution," and "The Honeymoon Effect."
Dr. Lipton's research has challenged the traditional view that genes control our biology and instead emphasizes the role of the environment in shaping gene expression. He has also highlighted the importance of consciousness and positive thinking in promoting health and well-being.
His work has inspired many people to take a more holistic and integrative approach to health and to explore the connection between mind, body, and spirit.
Another favourite of mine is Dr. Joe Dispenza - a chiropractor, researcher, and best-selling author who is known for his work on the relationship between the mind and the body, and the role of meditation and mindfulness in healing. He is the author of several books, including "Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself," "Becoming Supernatural," and "You Are the Placebo."
Dr. Dispenza's work focuses on the power of the mind to heal the body, and he teaches people how to use meditation and visualization techniques to create positive changes in their health, relationships, and overall well-being. He also emphasizes the importance of understanding the role of the subconscious mind in shaping our thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors.
We are so lucky to be living in such exciting times of discovery - and thank goodness, as we have reached a level of toxicity on this planet that we will only survive as a result of the leaps in consciousness that we are currently making - abandoning old, outdated paradigms and moving into new territory.

There is no doubt that love and kindness can be found in all walks of life. Pay attention and see where it shows up in your life today. It might show up in the simplest things or through the smallest gestures.

For more self care tips please check out my Living Your Best Life group https://www.facebook.com/groups/1240392890058548/?ref=share where I share all sorts of self help techniques to help you to live your best life during these tricky and often challenging times. See Friday's post below...

It is absolutely true that the more we can prioritise carving out time for ourselves to do what makes us happy, the more time we will actually start to create. That may seem contradictory, but time can be very fluid. The shift in your vibration after a joyful weekend of whatever it is that makes you happy can lead to a highly productive week. It's ok to push for short bursts to achieve specific goals, but if this becomes a way of life it will catch up with you eventually. Nature loves balance after all.
Nothing is more reassuring to our nervous systems than regularly giving ourselves the gift of some time out. And if this means that your Inner Perfectionist has to take a back seat, because you are too busy relaxing to meet one of your unreasonable targets, then so much the better.
If you find yourself feeling guilty and uneasy when you are attempting to have some chill time then it is very important go ahead and have the chill time. Guilt, unease and even anxiety may accompany your experience and that's absolutely ok, allow those three compadres to come along for the ride. This simply means that you are currently breaking one of your rules for living - the one that says you don't have time/deserve to relax and if you do you will never...keep the house in order/get all your work done/get that qualification/be a good parent... The great news is though - you made that rule up! It isn't written in stone - so if you tear up your own rule book and start engaging in relaxing, enjoyable self care practices regularly - your Inner Hustler will start to feel safer and realise that it's actually ok to live a more balanced life.
