The placebo effect refers to the phenomenon where a patient experiences a perceived improvement in their condition after receiving a treatment that has no active therapeutic effect. In other words, a placebo is an inert substance or treatment that is given to a patient, and the patient may feel better simply because they believe they are receiving a beneficial treatment. The placebo effect is thought to be influenced by a variety of factors, including the patient's expectations and beliefs about the treatment, the context in which the treatment is administered, and the patient's relationship with the healthcare provider. It is often used in clinical trials as a control group to compare the effects of a new treatment against the effects of a placebo. Bruce Lipton is an absolute pioneer in this work and if you haven't done so already I highly recommend exploring his work. He is a cellular biologist and best-selling author who is known for his work on the relationship between consciousness, biology, and genetics. Dr. Lipton's research has challenged the traditional view that genes control our biology and instead emphasizes the role of the environment in shaping gene expression.
