Whether you’re traveling via plane, bus or car, having fun in the sun it’s important to maintaining healthy habits while on holiday, keeping hydration being one of the most important ones. Here are some tips I've found to help you stay hydrated during your next holiday...
• Hydrating foods and drinks
While traveling, it’s important to pack water-rich foods that can help you stay hydrated throughout your holiday. Fruits and vegetables are full of water, making them the perfect choice for a snack. Eating foods like berries, watermelon, oranges, lettuce, bell peppers and zucchini will help you feel energised. In contrast, sugary drinks and salty foods work against your hydration levels, making you thirsty.
• Empty water bottle
If you don’t have a reusable water bottle, you should invest in one. An empty water bottle can make your traveling experience much easier and help prevent dehydration. It helps the environment and is refillable.
• Increase water consumption
It’s essential to start and end your day with water. Drinking as much as possible in the days leading up to and during your trip can help you avoid illnesses and keep you energized. Try drinking a bottle of water when you wake up and another before bed, roughly two cups of water.
• Limit alcohol consumption
It can be easy to drink too much alcohol, especially when on hoilday with the all inclusives. Unfortunately, consuming high levels of alcohol without water can quickly lead to dehydration. Balancing alcoholic drinks with hydrating beverages is key. A glass of water in-between always helps!
• Avoid overheating
Spending hours at the beach can cause your body to produce sweat. This loss of water helps regulate your core temperature, but at the same time, it increases your risk of dehydration. Make sure to bring plenty of cold water while spending your day in the sun. You can also limit the amount of time you spend outdoors during the hotest parts of the day. If you run out of water, finding some shade under a tree or relax in front of an air con unit as a alternative way to keep your body cool and hydration levels high.

What is the story of Vaisakhi?
In 1699, Sikhs from all over the Punjab gathered together to celebrate the local harvest festival of Vaisakhi. The tenth guru, Guru Gobind Singh, came out of a tent carrying a sword. He asked anyone who was prepared to give their life for their religion to step forward. A young man stepped forward and went into the tent with Guru Gobind Singh. Then Guru Gobind Singh came out of the tent alone with his sword covered in blood and asked for another volunteer. This happened four times until five Sikhs had gone into the tent. Everyone was very worried that five men had died. However, they all came out of the tent alive and wearing turbans. The five men became known as the Panj Piare or 'Beloved Five'.
Guru Gobind Singh then baptised all the men into the Khalsa. He said some prayers and sprinkled them all with sugar water called amrit. These five men became the first members of the Khalsa.
