Videos by The Ulysses Trust. The Ulysses Trust provides financial support to challenging expeditions and adventurous training for members of the UK Volunteer Reserve and Cadet Forces.
The Ulysses Trust is proud to support #SocialMobilityDay and encourage other organisations to put social mobility at the heart of what they do.
Creating opportunities for everyone to achieve their full potential, regardless of where they might have started out in life, not only helps build a fairer and more equitable society, but also creates an empowered workforce of diverse voices and lived experiences.
In 2020 we were delighted that Tile Cross Academy was named as the winner of the School/College of the Year in the UK Social Mobility Awards for its social mobility work. We have supported the Academy's cadet unit to undertake expeditions on many occasions supporting over 100 cadets and our contribution to support the cadet unit was part of their submission that won the award. Tile Cross Academy serves one of the most disadvantaged communities in Birmingham so our support is targetted to help those that need it most at a critical time in their lives.
More recently we have worked in partnership with our friends at BAE Systems to produce a short video about one of the cadets/students from Tile Cross Academy who has benefitted from our support. Shiza's story is an example of how transformational the cadet/expedition experience can be and there are many more similar success stories who have benefitted from our support during their journey. You can find out more about The Ulysses Trust via our website or read our recently published Impact Report - get in touch and we will send you a copy.

It's coming to the end of #VolunteersWeek. We've had several messages from our ambassadors to highlight the fantastic work volunteers do for our charity. Today we hear from Ulysses Trust ambassador Wendy Searle (who is also a Ulysses Trust volunteer). THANK YOU to all our dedicated team of volunteers who work hard behind the scenes to enable our charity to support young cadets, officer cadets and reservists to undertake exciting and challenging expeditions. And many thanks to all the thousands of adult volunteers who support the cadet forces and enable young cadets to undertake expeditions and adventurous activities. Keep up the great work! And let's not forget our supporters and sponsors who generously donate money that makes these amazing activities affordable for cadets and reservists and help us to change lives. THANK YOU. Message from Levison Wood
Last week we held an event at Fishmongers' Company's Charitable Trust Hall to thank our supporters and showcase what we do:
+ changing lives through enabling outdoor challenge, exploration and adventure
+supporting activities that deliver confidence, resilience, self-awareness and values
+ opening eyes to a world of unseen opportunity, and achievement beyond expectation.
One of our ambassadors, Levison Wood, recorded a special video message of support as he was unable to attend the event in person.
We're delighted to have Lev on board as an ambassador as he is a world renowned explorer and helps raise awareness about the work we do and is an inspiration and a role model to our beneficiaries.
Thank you Lev. #ThankyouThursday

EX DELAGO TIGER, - Exeter UOTC
We get some amazing expedition photos and videos sent to us from the units that we support. Here's some incredible drone footage from Exeter University Officers' Training Corps.
They also sent us the following message:
During the summer, 30 of our Officer Cadets took part in EX DELAGO TIGER, where they headed to the beautiful Dolomite mountains in northern Italy for 2 weeks of adventure training.
Activities there included Via Ferrata, Trekking and Rock climbing. There were impressive achievements made throughout, with one group even making it up the Marmolada (the highest in the Dolomites at an impressive 3,343m). All cadets also took part in expeditions over 2-3 days, staying in Rifugios and trekking/climbing long distances.
A massive thank you to all staff involved (including our incredible chefs) for making this happen. It was an absolutely incredible experience that we are sure none of them will forget… until next year!
A huge thank you also to @ulyssestrust for supporting this trip!

The 2021 Prince of Wales’s Expeditionary Award was presented by ACM Sir Simon Bryant at The Ulysses Trust’s 30th Anniversary event on Thursday 28 July at Cadogan Hall. The event was a celebration of the Trust’s 30 years of grantmaking during which it has supported over 40,000 reservists, university cadets and cadets to take part in challenging and adventurous expeditions in the UK and around the world. Many thanks to everyone who attended and all those who helped us make it happen.
Here's another video clip from our recent 'Seeking New Horizons' event. It features @canfordschool CCF Cadets undertaking Nordic Skiing and building ice shelters in Norway in the early part of 2020 (just before lockdown). Click https://www.ulyssestrust.co.uk/ if you'd like our support to try something similar.
Here's a video clip from our 'Seeking New Horizons' event which took place last month. It features @east_of_scotland_uas cadets during their epic mountain bike adventure in Mongolia in 2019. Click https://www.ulyssestrust.co.uk/grant-applications/ if you'd like our support to try something similar.
You can't beat a bit of camp cooking. These cadets from 2344 (Longbenton) Air Cadet Squadron are learning new culinary skills during their assessed expedition (supported by the Ulysses Trust). And it got me thinking about my favourite camping stove. I'm a big fan of petrol stoves so it's a toss up between the classic Coleman 533 or the quirky Opitmus 8R. What's your favourite cooker for creating outdoor cuisine?
ON THIS DAY... in 2019, 282 (East Ham) Squadron Royal Air Force Air Cadets 6F (Romford) Squadron ATC and 34F Balham & Tooting Squadron, RAF Air Cadets set-off to the Brecon Beacons for a week of adventure. Maybe we can support your next expedition too? Get in touch to find out more.
