"What is your favourite glass artwork?"
The answer is normally "The latest one" 😊 But it's difficult to choose:
Gaze, the third image, is the piece currently on display in my Studio ... and I think it's everything I wanted it to be ... just what I imagined, many months ago.
But I don't want to just pick one, as the other two artworks seen here have also had a big impact on my artistic development.
Chequer, the second image, has been brewing in me for years - that mix of art and maths very much sums up my style.
The first image, Orangerie, is different again ... I have a passion for tropical plants in greenhouses & terrariums ... the combination of hard lines and organic shapes, with bold colour will never cease to make me feel good.
So for today at least ... these are my favourite three glass artworks 😍

I don't have many ready-to-buy pieces of glass art at the moment.
Most of my time is booked up working on larger commissions, which is wonderful for me
- but not so good for you if what you want is always sold out ☹️
So ... I've updated my website to fix this!
You can now order anything you'd like - even if it doesn't exist - and I'll make the time to create it for you.
I never make the same thing twice - every item is unique - so you also have the chance to say if you'd like a particular colour scheme or pattern, or a change of size or shape.
Whether you'd like a rainbow bowl, glass art Miniatures, unique Alphabet Miniatures, personally engraved fused glass, a statement glass bowl, or even a roundel - they're all available, made to order.
Do please take a look! https://glassartbylinda.com/

The end of an era 😮
Someone asked me recently if I would ever go back to doing traditional stained glass, rather than fused glass.
I've thought about this for a while now - the answer is definitely "No"
So I’ve decided to take a more concrete step forward, and sell the art glass I’ve had in storage that I won't use for fusing.
So I'm selling any art glass that I can't guarantee to be
EDIT: SOLD
I only ever bought small sheets, so I’ve got a few boxes of hobby cut size and smaller (30cm x 20cm is the biggest) - and loads of offcuts - around 42kg in total.
I think it’ll make a great selection for someone starting copper foil stained glass. It’s how I started - with a box of offcuts from someone on the other side of the country :)
I'm in the North West UK - I'll post what I have available on one of the stained glass selling sites this evening.
Meanwhile, these are some of my favourite photos of my copper foil work - mainly still hanging in my house!..

It's time to top up the creativity! How?
I meditate ... I have done for more than 40 years, twice a day.
It helps me focus, be creative, be happier ... and sleep well!
I make sure I take the time to look after myself in this way.
I do Transcendental Meditation (TM)
When I started in the 80's it was an odd thing to do ... I think now it's quite normal 😁
Anyhow I'm doing a TM course for the next couple of days - I'll be back refreshed and full of creativity shortly!

Abundance: Large round fused glass art collection🌻
A rich, luxurious Hard Edge glass art floral display that sets any room alight with brilliance & joy😊
Maybe you like this piece but don't have the space a Roundel deserves?
Well, you can also commission the design as a different object, say as a statement bowl or set of Miniatures ... I think it would look stunning as a shallow bowl! https://glassartbylinda.com/abundance..

A recent commission, this custom-made fused glass bowl is off to the USA ❤️💙
The client wanted a variation on my Swirls design with the palette to match a predominantly red room, but with "a dramatic touch of blue"
I worked with her, sending suggested designs and glass choices until she was happy.
She then saw photos of my progress at every stage ... so there were no surprises with the end result, and she was able to say "This is just beautiful."
If you'd like a completely unique bowl, made to order just for you or as an amazing gift, please take a look here https://glassartbylinda.com/products/medium-round-fused-glass-bowl..

I've been sending LOVE round the world this year - if you'd like a set you can order them on my website https://glassartbylinda.com/LOVE
And now you can have them on steel stands too - Stand up for LOVE!
I'll also be designing a new set of glass hearts later this month - so do let me know if there's anything particular you'd like - I'm always open for custom projects!..

I'm a big fan of gardens, art, botanical art and all things in between ... so a visit to the London Garden Museum was always going to be perfect!
The current exhibition is Gardening Bohemia: Bloomsbury Women Outdoors. As the signs say ... "This exhibition centres on four extraordinary women and the green spaces they surrounded themselves with: writer Virginia Woolf and her garden at Monk’s House; her sister artist Vanessa Bell, whose garden and studio was at nearby Charleston; arts patron and photographer Lady Ottoline Morrell, who presided over Garsington Manor; and garden designer and writer Vita Sackville-West and the gardens at Sissinghurst Castle."
The artwork was displayed as if you were visiting the different women’s houses and gardens, with each area defined by the wall colour ... although quite small, the overall effect was wonderful!
The setting of the museum, in a church, is awesome too ... Well worth a visit!

Most of my work this year has been commissions, so I only have a few finished pieces available immediately.
They're not hidden away though ... I keep them on display in my workshop, so I can see how they make me feel - how they look at different times of the day - whether the stands enhance the work as I expect ... It's good to live with your own work for a while 🤔
And I love them all 😍
But it's time to share them: https://glassartbylinda.com/
Do please take a look, start a discussion, ask questions, whatever ... I'd be delighted to hear from you!

Geometry, hard angles, strong light and shade ... this is what I look for everywhere, and what comes out in my art.
London didn't disappoint ... These famous landmarks gave me plenty of inspiration!
Though they also gave me a pain in the neck - walking around looking up all the time is a dangerous game 😁
Just incase you don't recognize anything, here's the British Library, the London Eye, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, and the Royal Opera House.
Something of this will appear in my work over the next year, I'm sure 😍

I've not seen this work from Klee before. I love both the structure and colours - take a look!

On a trip to Tunisia in 1914, Klee fell in love with color, and by 1915 he had devised the unique style of abstracted forms and symbols that characterized much of his later work.

His piece “Temple Gardens” recalls impressions from his visit. While the watercolor’s intense pigmentation and the geometric patterns add to the unique nature of this piece, Klee goes the extra mile by rearranging the composition with scissors. Perhaps in this instance, he thought the work looked too symmetrical and therefore cut it into three sections and moved the center one to the left. Now the site depicted in Temple Gardens, which earlier was only pleasantly full of the "angles and corners" as he had admired in Kairouan, has become an abstract labyrinthine.

He was influenced by the Cubism of Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso and took great interest in the paintings of Robert Delaunay and August Macke, which employed abstract planes of translucent color. Klee was lifelong friends with Wassily Kandinsky, and was associated with the Blaue Reiter group. His inspirations and associations greatly informed his work.

🟧 Paul Klee (German (born Switzerland), Münchenbuchsee 1879–1940 Muralto-Locarno). Temple Gardens, 1920. Gouache and traces of ink on three sheets of paper mounted on paper mounted on cardboard.

Colour inspiration - it's good to get away from the studio sometimes and see something different.
So I spent this weekend in London with my daughter ... though I grew up there, I now enjoy the capital more as a tourist.
With little agenda other than to see art, colour and plants, there was plenty of scope for inspiration 😍
These are the colour combinations of Portobello Road - I love how everyone has worked together to create such a vibrant neighborhood - it was a real joy to walk around!
I also bought some glass in Portobello Road market - no doubt it will feature soon 😁

Last month I completed my favourite commission. This was the brief from the client:

"I would love to have a set of pieces with your full creative liberty. The only thing I ask is that I get some eyes and lips. Other than that I fully trust you and your process.
I’m a ceramic artist, so I love having liberty in my work and I absolutely love getting art from someone with full creative liberty. It shows and highlights the true artist."

Well ... What a wonderful commission. And he's very happy with the final photos ...

"I’m BLOWN away! They are absolutely fantastic! I LOVE THEM! Amazing work!"

I asked to keep the work a little longer, as I'm getting new stands next week and these Miniatures will be the perfect model.
So, thank you so much for your patience ... not long now!!

Ooh ... I wonder if I could just pop down to London in September? 🌻😍🌻

Photos from Glass Art by Linda's post 27/07/2024

Answering the question “Where do your design ideas come from?

They’re pretty much all inspired by the places I visit and photograph.

I take the time out to have Inspiration Days … whether it’s a quick trip to the local garden centre, a day trip to a modern city, a weekend in an old town … or preferably, a week in the South of France 😁

My own photos then form the basis of my artwork, eventually to be created in glass. Each piece has a story - a location, an emotion, a palette - that becomes an integral part of the design.

You can see a few examples here:

Biarritz - building on the unique architecture and vibrant colours in the heat of Basque France
Gallery - motivated by my own behaviour … as a lover of art, what do I like to do? Visit art galleries and see work that fills me with joy 😍
Wells - featuring the ancient arches of the Wells cathedral
Orangerie - a design rooted in the lush tropical palm houses I’ve visited across Europe
Stairs - inspired by the central staircase in Manchester Art Gallery - full of spirals, strong curves and hard angles

You can see how this fused glass bowl is getting on ... here's the glass choices, cutting, fitting the pieces and building everything in the kiln.
Now it's a fused glass disc, ready for noodles and stringers before it's slumped into a bowl.

Spectrum: Fused glass wall art
Originally titled "Rainbow Remnants" as I used off-cuts of every colour of artglass in my inventory - an intense rainbow palette of blues, teals, greens, reds, yellows, clear and white, using both transparent and opaque glass.
Working intuitively rather than with a pattern took so much longer than I expected - but the result is just as I imagined it would be!..

My Story

My name is Linda Rossiter and I create stuff in my spare time.

This month, after a break, I’m returning to stained glass - copper foil for now, maybe leaded next year.

For the last couple of years I’ve been making jewellery - in polymer clay, silver & bronze.

This was a natural progression from my other interests in mosaics and stained glass.

I started working in silver, copper & bronze precious metal clay in 2011.

In 2017 I become interested in polymer clay - amazingly versatile stuff.

I’ve taken many photos of my projects on the way, so I’m sharing them here.

Everything I make I keep, or give to relatives & friends.

I don’t sell anything - I have a day job to make money - but feel free to ask questions anyhow :)
