Thank you all for coming to the DR40 and Semerwater Stomp. How lovely it was to see you all!

If you had a great day we would very much appreciate a race check review. As a small business your feedback is hugely important to us.

We would like to say a massive thank you to our DReamTeam marshals for being amazing once again! You might have recognised Mark and Hazel from greenermilesrunning at Cray lending us a hand. Thanks guys!

Also to Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team for providing rescue and medical cover. Much appreciated!

Thanks also to Shelli LETS RUN for providing the top prizes. Thanks for supporting our events!

Same place. Different day. We had heavy rain for our final course check. The course is clear, even if the views are not!

I’m just waiting for Jess to finish sweeping her part of the course and then we can get home and publish some results.

In the meantime did anyone spot these interesting features near Yockenthwaite and does anyone have any idea what they may be?

Wowzers! What an amazing day! Amazing running, amazing people, yeah the weather didn’t quite follow suit but we can’t have it all!

We’re still at Semerwater until tomorrow as we’ll sweep the entire course again tomorrow. So results and stuff will be sorted when we get home. Thanks for your patience!

Thanks to all our super runners and marshals ❤️

Last one out, shut the gate!

It wouldn't be a DalesRunner event without a reminder to bring your keep cup! If you want a brew after the DR40 or Semerwater Stomp don't forget your keep cup! Go pack it now otherwise you'll forget!

DReamTeam that's you too!

See you tomorrow!

Here’s ahead up for your aid station goodies at the DR40 this weekend!

Your first aid station is at approximately 5 miles and here you will find water and sweets.

Your next aid station is at roughly 13miles at nethergillfarm. Here you can use the loo if you need to. This aid station will have water and cola. There will be sweets, crisps and home made flapjack!

The final aid station will be at Cam Road End at approximately 20 miles. Here you will also be able to grab water, cola, sweets and crisps. Sorry, it’s shop bought flapjack here though!

All aid stations will have vegan skittles, gluten free crumbles and vegan Oreo’s but you will have to ask for them as they won’t be left out.

Stomp runners, don’t worry we haven’t forgotten you! Your aid station will be at Wether Fell turn about 5 miles round the course. You will find water, flapjack and sweets here with vegan and gluten free options.

We will have some on the day entries for the DR40/Semerwater Stomp. These will be £45/£25 cash only and are only available from the registration desk from 9am - 9.30am

Please car share if you possibly can - the lake is quite high at the moment so parking on the lakeside is a bit tighter than last year! And we have some great prizes in our car share raffle, including chocolate, beer and a DalesRunner Voucher.

01/09/2024

Entries for the DR40 and Semerwater Stomp close at 11pm tonight.

Like all good trail races, you get a little bit of bonus distance on the DR40. Last year Delyth chose our event for her first ever trail marathon distance - and she smashed it!

Entries for this year's DR40 and Semerwater Stomp are closing on Sunday 1st September at 11pm. This will probably be the last DR40 so don't delay if you want to experience this stunning route!

As a Hill and Moorland Leader I’m responsible for keeping my skills up to date. This includes dedicating some time to navigation practise, both on sunny days and at night! This bank holiday I’ve been out in Weardale, doing some night navigation and a longer day time walk.

When you book onto one of our guided walks you can be reassured that:

- the route will be thoroughly planned and risk assessed.
- your guide is qualified and first aid trained.
- the activity is fully insured.

September guided walks are now open. See our upcoming post for full details.

Want to take on the DR40 but worried about pace? We want all runners to feel comfortable at our events and we are therefore offering an early start option for the DR40 at 9am. This is strictly for runners who estimate taking over 6 hours 30 minutes to complete the course - racing snakes need to use the main start at 10am.

Further details on the early start option and how to book on it will be in the competitor email a week before the event.

If you fancy exploring some hidden corners of Swaledale at a slightly more gentle pace, why not try one of our guided walks?

The next one is on Sunday 22nd September and we'll be heading up from Surrender Bridge to explore the incredible Blakethwaite Dams.

This walk is open to all adults and is approximately 10 miles in distance. There is the option of bagging a trig on the route too.

At Beckermonds you have the choice of using the bridge or just bombing through the ford. Which way will you choose?

Stomp runners, don't worry, you get a ford too, just not this one.

Moving swiftly back to awesome news. We’d like to shout about this guy!

Marcel, from Orchard Eagles, has set himself the amazing challenge of running 40 10km events this year to raise money for Shelter. Marcel, we think you’re amazing and we’re so glad that you chose two of our Stately Trails races to add to your collection!

If you’d like to support Marcel his just giving link is here:

We’re usually really excited to feature in Runner's World but we’re both feeling a bit crest fallen about this write up.

We’re always keen to hear constructive feedback from our runners. As far as we know, no one from RW has taken part in one of our events.

Small business event organisers like us are not in this game for big financial rewards. We’re here because we love the sport, the routes and the competitors. We don’t ask for free advertising or undue positive praise, but come on RW! Support your race organisers a bit more positively!

If you have run the DR40 and can think of a more appropriate adjective than ‘monstrous’ we’d love to hear it!

If you would like to enter the DR40 or the short course option - the Semerwater Stomp the links are below. We know the finisher’s hotdog, stunning scenery, chance for a dip in Semerwater and awesome marshals will make it a great event!

Here at DalesRunner we tend to organise events with our hearts but every now and then we are forced to be proper grown ups and make decisions with our heads.

So therefore, we feel it's only right and proper to give you all fair warning that this September will probably be the final opportunity to run the DR40 in its current format. We have decided to give it a holiday from the DalesRunner stable for 2025 while we look at other options, which may include retiring it permanently.

But where one door closes, another opens and new adventures are never far away!

So if Roman roads, gorgeous views of Ingleborough and jumping in Semerwater are your idea of an awesome day out you better get yourself entered!

And that is definitely enough grown up decisions for one day!
