A SUCCESS STORY - KHALTE HEALTH CLINIC - SWINFEN HOUSE
10 years on from the opening of Khalte Health Clinic in Swinfen House, it is going from strength to strength. The building and initial funding for the fit out was made possible due to the generosity and fundraising organised by Lord and Lady Swinfen of Swinfen Telemedicine. Additional funding for staff training and basic medicines was provided by Swinfen Telemedicine supporters as well as Char Bhanjyang Tamu Samaj (UK). The Government of Nepal are now helping to fund medicines for the Clinic and have provided a boundary fence. From 1 February 2023 the local Mayor has obtained Government agreement to fund a midwife for an initial period of 5 years. Private donors have also helped the Clinic by providing a hospital bed for the occasional overnight patient and an X-ray machine from India. We were also gifted a digital baby weighing scales during the anniversary celebrations.
The villagers of Khalte recently repainted the Clinic for the 10th Anniversary party. Electrical and plumbing systems could benefit from improvement, however, these are already planned and funded and will be supervised by Captain Deo by contractors from Kathmandu. This is to ensure they are up to the appropriate standard and will include hardwiring the X-ray machine as well as providing appropriate protection for the operator.
Prathana Pun has now been with the Clinic just over 2 years and deals with 300 - 450 patients per month. A significant number are likely to be repeats of the traditional issues such as diabetes and high blood pressure. To date there have been 173 telemedicine referrals.

Dr James Edilyong, Yap, Federated States of Micronesia
Dr Edilyong has been one of our referrers for nearly 7 years. He is in the process of setting up an ambulatory care clinic as an alternative option for patients seeking medical help, to avoid the long waiting line at the only public hospital on the island. We are asking for assistance to help him furnish an office and provide medical equipment for the clinic. If you know anyone who can help provide this equipment or are able to help Dr Edilyong in any way, please contact us and we will put you in touch with him. We’ve listed the equipment in a photo so you can save it separately if need be. Thank you.
