A simple barbell hang clean and press (A great full body movement working multiple muscle groups) This is a big progression today from my client Steph Throughout lockdown we rebuilt a lot of major compound movements over Zoom and looked at Steph’s weak areas, mainly her posture and execution to most larger movements (Note: doing this over video was hard and that’s why I want to share this with you as an incredible set of results from a client who works so hard) Through assessment we realised one main common issue. What I call ‘Folding like a deck chair’. A weakness of the lower back, severe protraction in the shoulders and a disengaged mid section For a while a deadlift or back squat was off the menu as were other movements If a client isn’t ready for it, don’t let them go. Take responsibility.... Instead we programmed the same (larger) movements that we identified as beneficial for our goals in a regressive way using the best options available to us Lots of stick mobility work and body weight exercises covering our imbalances and looking at the insertion points of where we believe posture issues were creeping in and where we can strengthen 4 months on and with a light weight load, a clean and press both from a hang and the floor are now an option and something that we can do with no discomfort and at higher intensity Further more we can really delve into these movements now over the coming months and look to make further progressions Everything detailed here is a great example of personal training progress and from someone who has set out on a journey and committed herself to the process This sort of stuff fires me up Understanding the body, movements and making it relevant to my clients, their goals and teaching them how to train effectively is something I take great pride in and every now and then when something comes together it feels great The 3 E’s if AD Coaching Elevate Eliminate Educate -AD www.andrediurno.com
