“Hi, Matt.

I wanted to share my little success story with you.

I’m a first responder here in Colorado (since 2008). I’ve been in varying levels of shape over the past 13 years. 2020 & 2021 were challenging years, and I let my fitness fall by the wayside more than I ever have before.

At my heaviest (and my turning point, December of last year) I weighed 320lbs. My pants were a size 44, and I could no longer fit in my dress uniform. The agency I work for hasn’t hasn’t held the annual fitness qualification the past two years because of [the obvious - Matt], but if they had, I’d have failed it miserably. I would get winded walking 1/4 mile, or climbing a flight of stairs.

A close friend tried to get me into MTB during the last couple of years, but I couldn’t keep up, and I felt like a failure. I just didn’t have the fitness level to do the sport.

I’d found the 12-Week program and the Facebook group online, but just loitered, thinking of what if’s, and feeling pretty helpless, like I’d let myself go too far to come back.

January of this year, I decided to do something. I purchased the 12-week program, and followed it near-religiously. I missed an occasional session because, life happens, but would quickly make it up. I also repeated one week after two sessions and five day’s rest, because I came down with a cold.

Goal setting is one key element of the program, and I had one very specific (though not MTB related) goal in mind- pass my agency’s fitness qualification, which was scheduled for mid-April.

I officially finished the program today, with my last interval session. I also started the 16 week program with the first gym session- the first time I’ve “doubled down” on combining intervals and a gym session.

After working out today, I reported to work, knowing that the fitness qualification was on the agenda for the day. I’m happy to report that I passed the course- and with 36 seconds to spare.

I’ve lost weight, I’ve lost inches, my clothing sizes are down…. But most importantly, I’ve regained an acceptable fitness level for a person in my profession.

3 1/2 months ago, it seemed daunting, if not impossible to do anything about my fitness. Today, I continued my journey back to a fitter me as I crushed a major fitness goal.

The plan works, and I’m excited to be continuing on with the advanced program. So thank you.
