⚠️Hello Lovely lot👋🏻
You may have noticed some lovely yellow lines around our business recently. (Sadly we are already feeling the blow that this has dealt to us) But PLEASE don't be deterred to still come and visit us, despite possibly having to walk a little further!

⚠️However do not despair! - did you know that you can park on them with blue badges for up to three hours!! And we - being the mathematicians that we are - have calculated that you can eat 36 cakes, 10 coffees 16 cocktails in that time... but wouldn't we recommend it 😅

We still offer the option of private hire on the days and hours we aren't open - please message or email us if you're interested in hiring the space for any occasion, big(ish) or small 📩

We are always so grateful for the continued support from all of our customers and local regulars 🙌

Thank you all!

Our modern take on a classic...

Helen's loves an old 18th century painting by Fragonard called 'A Young Girl Reading', so she did her own take on it and brought it to life in her own way of a portrait of her little gallery kitten lovely 'Lord Purrseus'

Have you met lord purrseus yet? He is simply delightful!

If you are interested in a commission similar to something like this, get in touch with us.

Helen!

Also know as Helen Parsley, shes the in-house artist with decades of experience. She embarked on her artistic journey at Manchester University, (then polytechnich), where she honed her skills in illustration under the guidance of the renowned Tony Ross.

In her current artistic phase, Helen delves into the captivating realms of landscapes and still-life, establishing herself in the world of fine art. As a proud Yorkshire native, she came into this world on Shoreham Street, right beneath the watchful eye of Sheffield United Football Ground. Her passion for art has been a lifelong affair, dating back to her earliest memories. She fondly recalls eagerly awaiting “rainy days” during her school years, those precious moments when the raindrops kept everyone indoors, and the permission to paint was given. Every spare minute was dedicated to wielding brushes and pencils, capturing the world around her.

Her preferred medium is acrylic paint, and she wields vibrant colours with expertise. In her early days, she drew inspiration from the works of American artist Norman Rockwell, who graced the pages of the Saturday Evening Post in the 1930s.

She has a deep appreciation for Yorkshire Victorian artists such as Atkinson Grimshaw and Whistler, among others. At first glance, her paintings may appear photographic, but upon closer inspection, they reveal a skilful blend of loose painting, textured nuances, and intricate details that create captivating illustion.

Having called Flixton and Urmston home for nearly three decades, Helen and her late husband, Simon, took a bold step by setting up permanent roots in Urmston.

It was a lifelong dream to establish a gallery showcasing Helen’s work, a dream that took shape during the challenging times of the Covid pandemic.

They transformed a historic cooperative building, which had seen various incarnations as a grocery store, butcher shop, appliance care centre, and more, into their cherished gallery. Today, she continues this journey with her daughters, embracing life’s challenges with a radiant smile and unwavering determination."

The Gallery ... it holds so many stories!

Also can we talk about that Glow up! Appliance care to this !

This building itself has a rich history... we always get people coming in saying this is where they bought their first washing machine or dryer!

The gallery building dates over 110 year old, she's a beauty now, but shes been many things! Prior to this it was the beautiful 'appliance care' and then it was lovingly restored to its former beauty over the years with the help of Javes cafe, which I'm sure some of you remember! We have photos of us going to Javes for a family birthday meal, with simons mother, a year before we spoke to Jill and dave about moving here!

The ginnel was one used by horse and cart to truck out all of the stock from the co-operative shop it once was. A bustling heart of the community. There are two large big windows in the back where a winch used to load up and winch things down and up to the store rooms above!

Now the ginnel is filled with things which hold a more personal history to us...

As well as the odd mirror or two, the walls are donned with eamel signs Helen's lovingly collected throughout her life. And the old street sign from Shoreham Street, where she grew up in Sheffield, which holds a dear place in our hearts 💕 (she still hasn't managed to shake that sheffield twang 😉)

The Big letters of AMDG you have probably walked past and thought "that's weird" I mean we know we're not great with spelling but that doesn't spell out anyones initials?!
AMDG - means 'Ad maiorem Dei gloriam' -For the greater glory of God.
Helen has painted this into her paintings for years, often the canvas before the layers of the paint begin making out the painting. She has this scribed into it before the painting is even started, so underneath her work is a foundation of what she is doing this for and who's glory she is actually pointing to with her beautiful paintings...

We hope you like it here as much as we sure love living here.

We can't wait till warm summery evenings and we will be opening up the ginnel main double doors a lot more !

We love all the eclectic stuff we have down the ginnel. Its channelling our inner 'willowpool' does anyone remember willow pool? It was a really big wacky garden centre type salvage yard with a cafe, in Cheshire. It is a fond family memory and tradition for us to all visit it quite often. Was a shame it had to close....

Photos from The Gallery's post 18/05/2023

So... Friday nights are changing up a little bit at the gallery.

We are going to introduce our family PIE NIGHTS to the gallery. 🥧 🥧 🥧

A little back story on this is Pie Night is a little family tradition we have with us, for years at our previous family home. Helen would make a massive pie, and we would invite over our family friends and all our old lodgers who were like a big gathered extended family. 🧡💛🧡💛

We would often have our living room crammed full of lovely people who are like family to us just all sitting round eating, watching bbcs latest gripping drama with mouthfuls of pie! so we wanted to bring some of that family feeling back into the gallery. We are often told that coming here feels like a home from home and it is so cosy and warm, so why not!?

Through pie we created our pie night family! We know pie isn't very photogenic, but damn Helen makes a good pie. How hard is it to get a good picture of pie hahah

We are keeping it simple and we are going to make two each week (one vegie and one meatie) last weeks we had a beef curry type one...the previous week was chicken massaman, it was delicious!

Big hearty bowls will be served after 6pm(ish) every Friday x

'The perfect selfie area doesn't exi....'

Hol up.
✋️ wait till you come down the ginnel of mirrors.

This was made for taking pictures 😘 make sure you take a photo in our little ginnel, we have like a hundred or so mirrors. Come pose in some in to get that next perfect picture 📸

Remember to tag us when you do!
