Cow stalking: the act of wandering around fields trying to find cows who are willing to pose for the camera!
I didn’t achieve that today, the cows were evading me 🐄 Apart from these two who weren’t interested but I named Rod and Paul nonetheless.
What I did achieve was a stroll around ntnostell with my spare hour instead of doing admin or nipping home to do some housework…. And I even managed to avoid all the cow pats!
Absolutely! We all make mistakes… but don’t let them define you. Wrong choices and being regretful does not equal a bad person 🌸
And on that note, have a wonderful weekend!
When I first saw this image, I wondered how many people will think of social media, any guesses why?!
I think the word mess is a bit strong… but we all have a history, we all have struggles, we all have regrets. But sometimes we have to present a particular version of ourselves to the world- that’s ok too.
So if you’re feeling a bit like the bottom picture today, I promise you are not on your own 🤗
Never underestimate yourself.
As much as your mind can take you places, it can also hold you in place.
Have you seen Inside Out 2 yet? I have 🙋♀️
I went after a few of my clients told me how they could connect with ‘Anxiety’ (see pic below!) and wow… that film did not disappoint!
From how we form our core beliefs, what affects our sense of self, burying things in the back of our mind and how anxiety takes control… it’s a treat for Psychodynamic Therapists (especially those who like Disney Pixar films 🤩) and will hopefully help many adults and children
Taking advantage of having access to Nostell parklands late evening after work…. and I have the place to myself 😌
Well… apart from my new little mate 🐄 🤗
Self-care: noun [ U ] (also self care) ‘the practice of doing activities that you enjoy or that are relaxing, especially in order to improve or avoid stress’
Or as I tell my clients, something that feels good for the soul!
So tonight I enjoy the company of a good friend, I relax ahead of a busy summer and I support a lovely local lady who has set up a beautiful retreat in Ackworth… Hideaway treehouse retreat
A beautiful gift I received and what a wonderful message 😊
You are amazing 🌟

A re-introduction of me to my new contacts 👋
I’m Emily and I have been a Counsellor for 4 years now.
After not working for 9 years after having my children I was ready to discover myself again so began working in a local primary school. From here I was introduced to Draw and Talk therapy and I loved how powerful this was in helping express emotions. I wanted to do something else with my life so enrolled in a level 3 Counselling course at my local college and I loved it so much, I went on to study for a further 4 years at Leeds Beckett University until I qualified! In the meantime I moved into secondary education and alongside my course, became the Mental Health Coordinator. I set up my business in lockdown and worked a couple of evenings a week- I was a busy bee 🐝
Then 2 years ago I made the big decision to do counselling full time and I found my beautiful office at Nostell NT. I expanded to work with children aged 11+ and set up a second business called The Yorkshire Consultancy Co. where I primarily offer supervision to staff in education, something that is close to my heart due to my own experiences.
I’m still a busy bee, but with a much healthier work/life balance and I love what I do.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story!
Happy Monday everyone! I hope you all feel recharged and refreshed after the beautiful weather at the weekend ☀️
I don’t post very often nowadays, not because I don’t care about my friends and followers on here or because I don’t love an inspirational quote… but because social media just doesn’t come naturally to me.
So I take a little break sometimes which allows me to recharge and accumulate some new quotes and ideas 😊
Do you ever take a break from social media?
A 5 minute watch around our circadian rhythm and the importance of sleep, reduced blue light exposure and spending time outdoors on both our physical and mental health ☀️
Why morning light is so crucial to your health - BBC Ideas How morning light can help regulate our sleep patterns, and why it's important to step outside to experience the full benefits.
This years swan eggs at Nostell NT! I was lucky to be passing at the right moment this morning just as momma swan was rebuilding her nest 🦢 🥚
I saw this the other day and it felt such an important message, I wanted to share.
I have been guilty in the past of prioritising work and it will be something I will always regret. Luckily I had an opportunity which led me away from that and I have learnt my lesson! 🍀
Social media is a topic that sometimes comes up in the therapy room, often the impact of others social media use on us.
But do you consider the impact that your own online presence has… on you?
If you find yourself worrying about your posts, what you’ve shared, your safety, people’s opinions, how many likes you’ve had or privacy, it might be a good time to consider how much of an impact social media is having on your mental health and whether there is room for change.
📱
The care you feel towards a client when you work with them doesn’t stop when you halt sessions so it was wonderful to hear from two of my old clients this week with updates… and so humbling that they thought of me.
I’m ending my week with so much love and gratitude in my heart. Wishing you all a lovely weekend 💛
What is Counselling?
Because there’s so many different ‘therapies’ out there nowadays… I fear the power that true Counselling possesses, can sometimes be trivialised.
I once read a social media post from a well known support group that did just this. It was feedback from a woman saying how much better that group had been for the ladies husband than counselling was. I was so pleased to read that this gentleman had found the right thing for him, after all, counselling just isn’t right or appropriate for everyone. But the statement that came with it from the support group focused in on the wrong bit, comparing themselves to Counselling and verging on mocking the profession.
I was so appalled.
There is no comparison.
The two are so different.
That’s like a breast feeding support group mocking midwifery. Or a community support group comparing themselves to Social Care.
I’ve had people querying the difference between Counselling and group work where you hug teddies for comfort or work with crystals. And it’s quite difficult in that moment to explain the vast difference.
One thing all of these groups have in common with Counselling is they are all intended to help people. They are varying support that cater for our unique personalities, spirits or emotional needs. And they normally involve people with hearts of gold.
But Counselling is a professional service which involves years of training and continuous CPD. It may not be the right thing for everyone… but it is so very special and undeserving of being mocked.
By the way, I’m not against teddies… my office hedgehogs love a cuddle!
For those who lost someone in 2023 and are struggling with a new year… I feel you 🤍
Like many folk, I overindulged this Christmas! So I struggle at times like this as I don’t like to commit to diets or regimes that I know I won’t do past a month! But I once read about small changes being super powerful and more likely to develop into your new normal.
So I set myself a small goal this January to utilise my breaks better and instead of doing ‘admin’, I’ll go for a 20-60 minute walk in the back garden that is Nostell. It consisted of mud… rain… grumpy swans… mud… funny hairy tree… more mud. And a coffee with biscuits for after (I can’t push myself too far!)
Do you have a mini goal for January?
Isn’t this the truth ✨
⭐️ Message to my clients ⭐️
You won’t believe this but…. The traffic lights have gone at Nostell! You no longer have to allow an extra 10 minutes or panic call me to say you are running late! But be careful, we now have to remember to drive on the correct side of the road when crossing the bridge!!
So many people start therapy in private and some wish to keep it that way. But as therapists, we often see a shift where people start sharing their stories with others. We see how valuable this can be and it sometimes helps the other person too. Humbled to be part of something so special 💛
Do you believe in coincidences? I am in the middle of renovating my bathroom and under the floorboards was one crumpled piece of paper. It was half a page of newspaper dating back to 11th August 1983… I was only 9 months old the day that paper got left there! But it features Nostell Priory and some subsidence they had in the old rose gardens. I love that 39 years later and almost to the day that this article came out, I took the keys for my office at Nostell NT…. It’s almost like there was a sign under my nose all along that I was doing the right thing, quite literally!
