Great work, an air source heat pump and unvented cylinder installed this week.

I know I post this every year, but it really is a useful and easy remedy for preventing the possibility of your boiler condensate pipe freezing over. A frozen condensate pipe can cause issues with your boiler and nobody wants problems with heating in their home as the colder weather approaches. Read on for the best way to keep your condensate pipe insulated….

It is advisable to insulate the pipe with some sort of lagging, even using an old piece of carpet or a towel will do. Wrap it securely around the external pipe, keep check on it from time to time to make sure it is still in place.

Thawing your condensate pipe:
Use hot water – not boiling – heated by a kettle or a microwave and pour over the end of the pipe where it is frozen using a suitable container like a watering can.
Hold a hot water bottle or heat wrap around the condensate pipe.
Once the pipe has thawed you should re-set your boiler by holding in the re-set button for 10 seconds and wait for the boiler to re-fire.
Warning
Never attempt to thaw a condensate pipe above waist level, or disconnect the condensate pipe in order to do so.
Never attempt to access the condensate pipe or any other pipe work within the boiler.
Beware of ice on the ground that will form from the water you have poured.

In a bid to continue efforts to decarbonise domestic properties within the UK, the government has increased the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant to £7500.00, (eligibility criteria apply).

The incentive is for home-owners who are looking to replace their fossil fuel boilers, with an eco-friendly renewable energy heat pump.

As a certified contractor of the Micro-Generation Scheme, we are registered to design and install air source heat pumps.

An air source heat pump is a system which absorbs heat from the outside air, this is then fed in to your property by the heat pump and can warm radiators, underfloor heating and the hot water in your home.

🥶Don’t get caught out when the colder weather comes.

❄️ We know that everyone is reluctant to put their gas boilers on currently due to the rise in fuel costs, but it is a good idea to give them a little test run before the cold weather starts.

🥶 If you test your boiler and any faults are detected you will have time to get this sorted before you will need to rely on the boiler more of the time.

Read on for tips on how your heating engineer can help cut your heating bills…..

1. Balancing your heating system; this will ensure that there is an equal flow of hot water throughout the system, preventing a radiator in one room getting hot but not in another.

2. Upgrade your boiler; older boilers, especially those that have not had an annual service, will not be working as efficiently as a newer A-rated model. There is an initial higher outlay for a new boiler, but over time you will reap financial rewards from the reduced energy consumption.

3. Fit thermostatic radiator valves; these will monitor the air temperature around the radiator and adjust the amount of hot water that enters the radiator accordingly. This will ensure that a room doesn’t overheat.

4. Clean the heating system; clean water running through the system will allow the radiators to heat more efficiently. Over time the water running through the heating system becomes dirty. Checking the quality of the water and treating with chemicals can help make the system work more efficiently.

5. Annual boiler service; your gas engineer will ensure that your boiler is working as efficiently as possible as part of the service. This will help to reduce fuel costs and prolong the life of the boiler.

6. Heating zones; creating separate zones of heating within your home will enable you to only heat the area that you wish to use, rather than the entire home. Your heating engineer can install a thermostat that has zoning capabilities meaning specific rooms can be heated at a time suitable for you. This can also be programmed via a smart phone application.
