The construction of London's iconic Tower Bridge began in 1886 and was completed in 1894, marking a remarkable engineering feat of the Victorian era. Designed by Sir John Wolfe Barry and architect Sir Horace Jones, the bridge was built to ease traffic congestion while maintaining river access to the busy Pool of London docks.

The innovative bascule (drawbridge) design allowed the bridge to open for passing ships, powered originally by steam engines housed in striking Victorian Gothic-style towers. Over 11,000 tons of steel were used in its framework, which was then clad in Cornish granite and Portland stone to create its distinctive appearance.

Tower Bridge's completion symbolized the ingenuity and ambition of the period, becoming a functional infrastructure piece and an architectural landmark that continues to captivate locals and tourists alike.
