Garden design for every season
Planting in… 💚🌿👩🌾
The raised beds surround a seating area, so plants with texture and scent have been included.
If you’re choosing plants at this time of year, it’s easy to get carried away with what the garden centres have ‘in stock’, as it all looks wonderful and colourful!
Remember to think about the other seasons! Summer flowering plants will fade, but keep in mind plants that will provide interest throughout the colder months.
A list of the plants used in this planting scheme are below:
Ilex Crenata Domes
Lavandula ‘Phenomenal’
Stipa Tenuissima Pony Tails
Iris
Astrantia
Echinacea
Hellebores
Japanese Anemones
Verbena
In my happy place! Shopping for trees! 🌳
Thank you Your knowledge was second to none, looking forward to seeing the ‘Liquidamber styraciflua Worplesdon’ planted up next week!
Sometimes it can be hard to visualise what you are trying to achieve in the garden.
You can’t beat a pencil and paper sketch to convey the length and height of your design. However, a 3d plan will give your design length, height and depth, plus the realistic feeling of being surrounded by your new design!
Planning for Summer ☀️ 👒
This Hertfordshire garden is nearly ready for its patio transformation!

Couldn’t resist visiting the flower markets whilst on our Barcelona holidays last week. The smell as you walked through the doors was so fresh! 🌸
The Spanish climate allows for plants like French lavender to already be in flower and the Orange trees, well, I think they might just be my new favourite thing!
Orange trees were planted all around the streets of the Airbnb we stayed in as they provide much needed shade in the Summer heat. If only I could plant one in my garden! 🇬🇧 🇪🇸 🍊
The other amazing find were Elephant Trees… kids loved them, great for climbing! Goodness knows how old they were?! 🐘 🌳
Creating designs from 2d to 3d using SketchUp pro, is a real game changer (swipe for current garden to what it could be)!
Yesterday I presented back to clients looking for circular designs for their rectangular shaped garden. The animation walk through brought the design to life and enabled them to see their garden in a completely different light! Quite literally in a different light, as SketchUp can show shadows and sunlight at different times of the day and year! Genius!

This year I’ve signed up to the Red Cross Open Gardens in June (…eek), so if like me you’re planning what to grow and plant out for the year, you can’t go wrong with the sun loving and long flowering, Cosmos.
Start sowing Cosmos from March in seed trays on a sunny window ledge, then prick out when large enough to handle.
Cosmos will flower from May through to October, providing height, colour and great vase displays! Its a flower which gives a lot of bang for its buck!
One of my favourite parts of designing a garden… the planting plan 💜🤍💚
This plan for a front garden in Hertfordshire needed to be low maintenance, but still have a showy display throughout the warmer seasons.
Ilex Crenata for structure (a great alternative to Box if you’re worried about Box Blight), English Lavender, White & Purple Aliums and Aguilegias. All hard working plants with long flowering periods! Just Beautiful!
Weather today was perfect for a bit of tidying in the garden. 👩🌾
Whilst it’s exciting to see the first signs of Spring poking through, the Evergreens are still stealing the Winter show with their consistent leaf and bursts of colour.
The Pink and White stars of the Viburnum Eve Price are stunning against their green foliage and the majestic Rhododendrons are starting to show their buds…
Signs of Spring are starting to poke through! Yay!! 🌼
Look out for these Winter Aconites on your travels, as well as Snowdrops and Narcissi Tete a Tete who are also starting to make an appearance.
Don’t miss the new series starting on 4th February!
If you’re looking to get some garden design inspiration, this is a great program to watch!
Wow, it is finally time for Series 2 of YOUR GARDEN MADE PERFECT!!!! We are back on your screens, Friday 4th February at 8pm. 😁 🌸 🌺 🍃
I love re-visiting a garden and today it was Stoke College Suffolk 🌳
The entrance area, which was finished April 21, is flourishing and looks amazing even in the depths of January!
Most impressed with the grasses (Stipa Gigantea) and the Mexican Orange Blossom, which have thrived in this partly shaded spot.
The bark of the white birch also looks fab against the newly painted school building.
Flick through the photos to see the ‘before’!
Merry Christmas from Carys Creations! 🎄
Thank you for all your support this year!
Looking forward to a very exciting 2022! 🎉
Too exciting to see this Hertfordshire drive and front garden starting to take shape!
Gravel grids down ready for gravel delivery, mini island awaiting turf and trees and the raised beds patiently waiting to be filled! 🌳 🌺

How do you plan out an area at the back of a house? 🏡
It doesn’t need to be patio, then garden beyond…bring the garden into the patio… 🪴
A few things to consider:
- include an area for seating which is slightly enclosed (so it feels like it’s giving you a hug!)
- pots are lovely and brighten up patio areas, however you may want to consider raised beds as they hold more soil and are less maintenance
- in-patio trees are very en vogue at the moment and provide shade, structure & interest
- a cooking area - whether it be a BBQ or a full outdoor kitchen, ensure it’s a sociable space with seating close by
Now is the time to think about what you would like your outside space to look like this time next year….. Awh bring back Summer!

Autumn is the perfect season for tree planting! 🌳
Winter can be too cold if the ground is frozen, and summer can be too hot and shock the tree into losing its leaves.
Autumn 🍂 can still be warm - just look at the past week! - and has plenty of rain, so the soil is more than workable.
I love a tree! ❤️ It gives shade from the sun, provides privacy, creates a point of focus and structure within a garden, and not to mention the environmental benefits 🌍👍🌳
I believe that there is a tree for every garden no matter the size of your plot. If you need any help choosing your perfect tree, just get in touch 🏡🌳🏕
Before the garden starts to go into its Autumn / Winter slumber, take pictures of your borders and plants so you know what’s going to pop up where next year! 🌱 🌸 🌻
Loved developing these designs for a client with an established garden. 👩🌾
With tall trees and bushes already providing privacy and shade, the aim was to create a garden which would invite them in! 🌱 🪴 🌳
Can’t wait to see the transformation! 🌟

One upside to all this grey weather… the windfalls! What’s flowering in your garden? 🪴 🌺
Dogs are such a big part of the family… and the garden!
We recently designed a dog friendly garden complete with a planting scheme perfectly suitable for our four legged friends.
Roses, camellias, grasses and phlox are just some of the gorgeous plants to choose from.
The dogs trust also has a list of plants which can be harmful to your best friend https://www.dogstrust.org.uk/help-advice/factsheets-downloads/factsheetpoisonoussubstances09.pdf
My day just got that little bit sunnier! 🔆
I love receiving such positive reviews, especially when I thoroughly enjoyed working with a brilliant client!
Thank you for recreating our logo for the team’s workwear. Great attention to detail!
Who doesn’t love a before and after photo…?!
May is a busy month for the garden. Growing seeds, potting on, planting out, and of course, keeping on top of the weeds with all the rain we’ve had lately! Lots going on in the design department too…
Sometimes you need a few options to understand your likes and dislikes from a garden.
These designs gave the client different schemes for their low maintenance front garden... which would you choose..?
All hands to the ... plants this week to make a school entrance both interesting and welcoming.
With subtle nods to the schools colours and 11th century gardens, the team successfully worked to complete the install before their open day.
Flashes of spring colour in wooden planters and hanging baskets finished off a great week with wonderful weather! Stoke College Suffolk
