Our Story

Smedmore Caravan Site is a privately owned dog friendly family Caravan and Motorhome Club affiliated site conforming to their rules and regulations open to both members and non-members. It is in a neatly-mown field off a private drive behind Smedmore House. It is situated on the private, historic rural Estate of Smedmore in the heart of Dorset just off the coast path and a mile from Kimmeridge Bay. Covering 1800 acres in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty the Estate runs down to a stunning and unspoilt stretch of the Jurassic Coastline. Enjoy a stay in this enchanting part of the delightful Isle of Purbeck. Take a break, visit the stunning Kimmeridge Bay or walk along the undulating coastal path or visit the wide range of local attractions this beautiful area has to offer including the multi million pound immersive "Etches Collection" Museum of Jurassic life in Kimmeridge village. Smedmore Caravan Site is a partially sloping, partially flat site bordered on three sides by trees, surrounded by farmland. It has views to the sea and Clavell Tower on one side and the Purbeck Hills on the other. There are 48 spacious pitches which include 37 touring pitches and 11 seasonal pitches mostly arranged around the edge of the field. Facilities include electrical hook-ups, Wifi, an information hut, two watering points, gas bottle sales and one chemical disposal point. THERE ARE NO SHOWERS OR TOILETS. The site is open from May to October inc. During open season the Warden Jo is normally on site every morning between 9am and 10am and again between 5pm and 6pm in the evening, usually longer. We take bookings for Caravans, Motor homes, Trailer tents and Camper vans but regret we do not have stand alone canvas pitches for tent bookings. Bookings can be made by phone or email during open season and my email when we are closed.
