Laura and I are finalising the programme for our Lakeland retreat this June and we are really excited. Here we are enjoying morning yoga on our retreat last year. Just look at that view! Delighted I am now able to get back into my regular morning yoga...its been a long absence since breaking my arm last October. Sure I now make some allowances but that's the beauty of yoga it's accessible to all even if you have aches, pains or issues. Of course you need proper guidance to be safe but other than that it's just space to lay your mat. It certainly helps you to maintain your health, flexibility, mobility and peace of mind. That's why I took it up actually to help me age well and happily and its certainly helping to bring springtime into my day. Keen to hear your go-to exercise to boost your mood and vitality... thumbs up if it's yoga!

Some many lovely trees in bloom so my mind knows spring is here but not sure the weather is in sync yet! Delighted I am able to get back into my morning yoga...its been a long absence since breaking my arm last October. Well this grey rainy weather was really starting to dampen my usually positive mood so I thought I would try a relaxing meditation to lift my spirits. I decided to focus on one of our Lakeland photos from our recent retreat prep trip to help me forget the moody day outside, and it worked... I feel brighter already. Even a short ten minute medation can lift your mood, help you to connect with yourself and engage with the day ahead....what tips do you have to aid a relaxing meditation ?

This is the time of year I find Intention setting the most powerful - just before the transition to spring - waking from a slower pace and seasonal hibernation with renewed clarity, energy and purpose.... (and it's also a great time to think about how to actually get more clarity, energy & purpose if that's what you're in need of!)

So this Monday evening we'll be hosting an Intention Setting Workshop, with advice from Claire on how to make your wishes become your reality. We are also super lucky to have the new moon with us, making this the perfect time to refocus on any new year plans that may have already drifted!

They say at this time in France if you leave your car unlocked you're going to find it filled to the brim with squash rather than stolen....I am not chancing it either way.

Our neighbour dropped off 4 last week, that would keep a family of 4 going for months and there are only two of us!!

Anyhow its really kind and I do love the versatile squash. I made a lovely traditional warming soup topped with crushed walnuts (again a donation from a neighbour) and lemon zest and it did the job. It also suits a ginger and lemongrass base finished with fish sauce, coriander and lime juice.

To be fair it's an easy maintenance high yielding crop (if you are going to grow them ) and nutritious to boot. I do prefer it paired with thai flavourings and a red curry is always a favourite, though it does make a good mash too.

The joy of plant-based cooking really comes with the ease in which you can prepare and create a very healthy meal at a relatively low cost. I guess most people are aiming to explore more plant-based options this year to serve environmental and monetary challenges, and if you look around there is so much help and inspiration at hand to make the job easier.

For our retreats we have created a menu that is 90% plant based, dairy and gluten free, we had some amazing feedback last year so let's hope we achieve the same this April & October.

How amazing has the solstice sunshine been this week? A welcome change and surefire spirit-lifter! Sunshine really can make us smile and getting out and about on a sunny weekend after a working week can really enhance mood and renew positivity. If you are lucky enough to enjoy this in nature then all the better.
Is there any better way to reduce stress and anxiety and boost your fitness and energy levels into the bargain?
Being solstice week we're being super mindful of the power of the sun in it's strongest position and “upping” skin protection - at least a factor 30 sun cream and a hat if we're out between 10 and 3pm! (We recommend low-chemical sunscreens such as Green People or Lavera)

Nature also provides us with many joyful foods to protect, hydrate, repair and nourish our skin and here are some of our fave seasonal choices:
Watercress, spinach, spring greens, asparagus, radicchio, courgette, fennel, tomato, cucumber, radish, apricot, grapefruit, nectarine and lets not forget the oily fish and seeds brigade with mackerel & kippers and sunflower & sesame.
Some lovely herbs are around too - mint, sorrel & chervil are our top picks!
We try to include all of these in our diet at this time of year.

Springtime joy in the Feel Great Kitchen!

Spring is a great time for making new habits and discovering new pathways. Nature is coming back to life after winter and there is a lot to enjoy, see and do. I always feel like cooking in springtime as the produce looks so inviting and just brimming with goodness and I like to try new recipes and foods.

Springtime ratatouille (courgette, aubergine, peppers, onions, tomatoes & garlic) is one of my faves and goes with most proteins animal, fish, fowl or plant based. I like to roast the vegetables and garlic (lots of it) first for about 20mins then add in the chopped fresh tomatoes (big ugly cooking ones work best) and cook for a further 30 mins, stir in fresh basil to serve. Keeps in the fridge for a few days too. Easy peasy!

Cooking from scratch is often a common aim and often seen as chore but it dosen't have to be as eating in season often means you need less time and energy to prepare the food, in fact seasonal eating brings lots of benefits and heres a few I like:

-supports the local economy
-reduces the carbon footprint of food
-uses less water
-reduces waste
-you get to know the farmer/producer

But best of all eating food at its best will taste the best and give you the best. Whats not to love?

We know that the diet adverts with glossy pictures of photoshopped women are doing the rounds again and that measuring ourselves against these images is usually unrealistic and can have a negative impact on our mental health
