2023's theme is "Transforming the narrative: Contributions at home, at work, in the arts and in policymaking"

As an employment programme, Springboard is working to support the effort to create the necessary change that must be brought into the narrative of autistic people so that society will be more welcoming in accepting them at work and in the arts.

Recently we caught up with one of our previous participants, Beky, from Warrington. You may remember her our past post on her successful Springboard journey- link here http://ow.ly/jpwf50NaS07

Beky said “I had been made redundant from Asda after nearly 20 years, I lacked self-confidence, self-belief and I really didn't know where to start with finding employment again!

Liz, my employability advisor, at Warrington Disability Partnership was AMAZING She looked after me and she helped and guided me to create a CV, then to look for vacancies in the community sector and finally practised techniques for interviews!

I luckily found this fabulous job that I'm still doing today! a volunteer coordinator for Healthy Neighbours Orford Volunteers, working for the Longford Neighbourhood Service Centre in Orford, Warrington. Healthy Neighbours Project - Orford

The project is all about empowering local people to volunteer and take part in local activities. It's great for the individual themselves and the community that they live in

The funding for the project comes from Torus Foundation and it's secured for another 2 years! 😁😁😁 I really enjoy working in the 3rd sector, helping people and making the communities the best they can be!”

Everyone at Springboard is so proud of Beky and the work she is doing with the Longford Neighbourhood Service Centre a year on from when she left our programme.

Well done Beky and we wish you the best of luck in your job (though you are already smashing it)

⭐️✨ It's time for another Good News Story to get you into that happy Friday afternoon mood! 🤩✨⭐️

Kirstin was unemployed when she saw the Springboard advert on Facebook and signed up. From there she began to work with her mentor Liz at Warrington Disability Partnership , working on everything from interview skills, her CV and even support with wider issues like building Kirstin's confidence back up after the pandemic.

Kirstin said "I would recommend Springboard to anyone for support, because it is one-to-one support and they listen to you"

When Kirstin left the programme a year she was going onto a digital admin course and searching for jobs. Now she is working as a Premier host for Skills Holidays doing tours in the UK!!!

Well done Kirstin, everyone here at Springboard is so proud of you!!!

Good News Story Alert to get you into that happy Friday mood! 🌻😎

Toni had worked at a bingo hall in Chester for 40 years but was made redundant when the branch closed.

She then saw an advert for Springboard on Facebook; after giving her contact details, Toni was contacted by Sarah Grindley from Weaver Vale Housing Trust

Sarah helped Toni create a detailed CV showing the many skills she’d developed in 40 years of employment and helped her understand how her skills could be transferred to other sectors and careers.

Sarah helped Toni to complete an application form and submit a cover statement for a role in the NHS, which Toni would have found daunting without help. Toni’s application was successful, and she is now starting work as a cleaner with Cheshire & Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust

Toni says: “I have learned a lot of new skills from being on Springboard, including writing a CV, job applications and interview techniques.

I would encourage people in the same situation to contact Springboard and access the support. It made the job searching and application process so much easier after having spent 40 years in my previous role.”

We want to give a massive shout-out to our Springboard participant Oleksandr, who recently moved to the UK under the Homes For Ukraine Scheme.

With a background and formal education in the entertainment business, he needed in-depth support to help him achieve his career goals.

Thanks to Career Connect and his advisor Claire, Oleksandr has secured employment as a customer service assistant at Marks & Spencer's and bagged himself a leading acting role at the Eurovision Festival! 🙌🌟

He will be playing the role of ‘Korniy' in the production of 'Maria' at the unity theatre

'Maria' follows the life of a young woman through the history of Ukrainian upheaval.

Kirsty was out-of-work and felt like she wasn’t progressing towards finding a job that was right for her. She wanted to work within a school, but couldn’t find a way to get into this career.

Sarah from WWeaver Vale Housing Trust helped Kirsty to update her CV, search for jobs and put together job applications and personal statements. As Kirsty has dyslexia, this is a part of the job-seeking process that she finds difficult, and she particularly appreciated this support.

With Sarah’s help, Kirsty has now secured a role as a kitchen assistant in a local school.

Kirsty says: “I have found the support from Springboard so useful. My advisor gave up her time to help and support me, and without this guidance, I would have struggled on my own.

After being made redundant, Sam from Chester was referred to Springboard. She was keen to return to work quickly but needed an up-to-date CV.

With her Springboard Advisor, Sarah, at Weaver Vale Housing Trust, Sam created a CV that showed off her skill set. Sam has now secured a job with Cheshire West and Chester Council as a Business Support Assistant within the social care department!

Sam says “I felt like I needed some guidance and support with looking for jobs, as having worked for the same company for 23 years it seemed that the world had changed a lot. It was good to have guidance and advice around interview skills and to get up-to-date knowledge on how to look for work effectively.

Sarah always checked in with me prior to interviews and was at the end of the phone if I ever needed support.

Mridula from Chester registered with Springboard at a Careers Event run by The Cheshire & Warrington Pledge at Chester University. She had moved from India to the UK to study for a Masters degree and she wanted a part-time job to go alongside her studies.

Mridula’s Springboard employment advisor, Tracy Hooper, from Weaver Vale Housing Trust, helped her to update her CV and gave her advice around searching for jobs and submitting applications.

After attending a number of recruitment days and applying for several jobs, Mridula was successful in gaining a role as a Student Research Assistant at the University of Chester.

Mridula says “My advisor was very helpful and knowledgeable and I’m thankful for all the support provided.”

We really enjoyed working with Mridula. She was receptive to suggestions and pro-active in her job search. We’re delighted she has secured the role she wanted and we wish her all the very best for the future.
