Meet our Westbrook Vets Team! 👋🏻☎️🐾💜
Angela spent 15 years working for a stonemason and time self employed before joining our team as a receptionist.
She loves meeting our clients and their pets – and has plenty of experience with animals herself, sharing her home with three dogs, a cat, a crested gecko, a tortoise, 11 birds, two rabbits and tropical fish!
In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her grandchildren and taking the dogs out for walks in exciting new places.

At home she has five rescue cats of her own – Oscar, Binx, Figaro, Houdini and Jasper.

In her spare time Hollie looks to go for adventures on long walks and visiting castles around the country with her partner and son, while she also helps out at her local farm, feeding the animals – and even giving bottles to baby lambs!

Happy World Blood Donor Day! 💉🩸
Today celebrates all the amazing individuals who donate blood to save the lives of others! ❤️
But did you know your pet could be a blood donor? The Pet Blood Bank is a UK charity and every unit of blood that is donated to the could save up to 4 lives. They run donation sessions across the country where owners bring their much-loved companions to give blood. The blood is taken to their processing centre in Loughborough where it is separated into different products, it is then stored and sent out to vets when they need it.
If you would like more information on how your pet could save lives by donating blood then please visit - https://www.petbloodbankuk.org/

Wildlife Welfare 🌳

Birds nest between March and July but what do you do if you find a nestling or fledgling on the ground? 🐦

Nestlings are baby birds without feathers, they should not be out of the nest and will need help. Where possible they should be returned to their nest (make sure it’s the right one!) wearing gloves. Nestlings won't survive long outside the protection of the nest, and where possible nestlings should be re-nested and left in the wild.

If you can't see a nest in the surrounding trees, or it's fallen down or been damaged, then you can make a replacement nest to put the nestling back into. This could be as simple as a basket or plant pot with some nesting material, securely attached to the nearest tree. If the bird is injured, the quickest way to help is to contact your local wildlife rescue centre or vet.

But, if you ever find a garden bird fledgling, a fully feathered baby bird on the ground, if they’re not sick or injured they’re usually best left alone. They intentionally leave the nest before they can fly, and their parents are usually nearby and still caring for them. Parents may even be waiting for people to leave before they return to their young. It’s normal for fledglings to be on the ground for a few days to a week or so whilst they finish growing their flight feathers.

During this time, please keep people and pets away, and leave the fledgling undisturbed and in the care of their parents. Remember that birds take far better care of their young than humans can. Taking baby birds into captivity can dramatically reduce their chances of long-term survival.

If they’re in a position of danger, fledglings can be moved to a nearby sheltered, safe place such as under a hedge. They still need to be within hearing range of where they were found, as parents often use calls to locate their young. Watch the fledglings from a distance until you have seen the parents find them.

The advice can vary depending on the species of bird, as not all bird species nest in trees or remain in the nest until they're a fledgling. For more information/advise then please follow the link below to find out more about specific species of birds and how they nest. https://www.rspca.org.uk/adviceandwelfare/wildlife/birds/baby
