Cubs and Kings Barbers
Friendly family barbers, offering boys, girls, men’s and women’s cuts.
We also cater for those with specific needs or sensory issues where time and attention can be given to make the experience non traumatic and something to enjoy.
Hi all,
Just a quick update about the mobile cuts - as some of you know, Kyle broke his leg back in June.
His leg has now healed enough to start going back out in the van for the mobile cuts. If you can get to the shop, please continue to come in, but if you do need a mobile visit, please message us if you want to make an appointment 💈🦁
Glenvale Park FC glenvaleparkfc_
As some are aware Kyle is heavily involved in managing (and playing for) a new local football team.
This amazing group of guys is made up of local guys and dads from the shop. Sponsored by the shop - we will be starting our season next Sunday with a cup game.
We’d love for anyone who wants to, to come and show some support at our home ground at Glamis hall. All details of home matches will be on the Glenvale Park FC page
This will mean a slight change in the Sunday sessions as Kyle won’t be in until afternoons, after the games. Sam will still be in and we will still be taking SEN session bookings. But if you want Kyle specifically they will be afternoon appointments only 💈🦁
Hi all,
Sam has requested Monday-Friday next week as holiday.
As you all know we try and avoid closing the shop if we can, but with Shannon being on maternity leave, we have nobody to cover the full week.
Kyle will be covering Friday 23rd from 9.30am-3.30pm (but has to close early due to a family commitment, but unfortunately we will be closed Monday 19th, Tuesday 20th and Thursday 22nd.
We have contacted any people that did have an appointment during those days and rearranged for Friday. However if you have been missed or need to re-arrange and appointment please contact us asap.
Sam will be back in Saturday 24th with Kyle as normal 🦁💈
As some may have seen on the news or social media today. The road has been closed due to a police incident over night.
It is now open and we are trading. So all appointments will go ahead 💈🦁
Sponsorship opportunity!!
GLENVALE PARK FC -
“Strength in unity - part of the pride”
As some are aware I am involved as joint team manager in a mens football team which has been set up to combat mens mental health. Quite a few dads from the shop are also involved as part of the team.
We have recently created a Sunday league team and have been accepted and affiliated into the league. We are currently looking for kit sponsors before we place an order for kit.
Cubs and Kings Barbers will be the main sponsors of the team. But there are 3 other sponsorship opportunities available. One will be on the back of the shirts and two others are on the sleeves.
There will be 40 kits (20 home and 20 away) that will have advertising and logos on. They will be on show at home games at Glamis Hall and away games around the county.
We can also provide a shirt for you to keep with your company logo sponsor on.
If anyone has there own company and would like to get involved in sponsoring the club in our first season please get in touch to discuss. This is a brilliant opportunity for getting involved in a worthy cause and also for advertising for your business without breaking the bank! There isn’t set prices for the sponsorship and am happy to negotiate.
Unfortunately we won’t be open today as Sam is poorly. I’m sorry for any inconvenience caused. Please message us to rearrange any appointments 🦁💈
Morning all,
As some may be aware Kyle has had a bit of an accident playing dads and lads football.
He has broken his leg quite badly in several places and as a result is in a cast for a few months and getting about on crutches.
Now if you know what Kyle is like - he can’t sit still and against everyone’s advice he is still intending to work and do what he can. Especially as there is only Kyle and Sam in the shop now.
He will be able to do cuts at his station using the chair to lean on and hop around.
Some of the more difficult cuts and wrigglers might have to be done by Sam.
The SEN sessions - I think the plan is for Kyle to do the ones he can and still be there for the others while Sam does them.
The mobile cuts is where the biggest problem is - as Kyle can’t drive; so Rhiannon his wife will be providing taxi services to try and keep things going as normally as we can.
It’s going to be a case of trying his best and seeing where his limits are. Thanks for your patience and understanding 🦁💈
JOB VACANCY
We are still looking for a barber or Hairdresser to join our little team. Even more so now Shannon has gone on maternity leave.
Experience or training in both barbering and hairdressing would be beneficial.
A willingness to cut children’s hair is a must. A good understanding and open mind to special needs and disability (SEND) is a must.
Hours are negotiable. Full or part time considered.
Hourly rate can be discussed.
We are open to experienced and newly qualified applicants.
But ideal candidate will be expected to work unsupervised/alone after initial training/settling in.
Please message us/pop in to the shop to discuss 🦁💈
UPDATE TO OPENING HOURS
As most will be aware; Shannon has now gone on maternity leave.
This means Sam will be running the shop by herself through the week and then both Sam and Kyle in at weekends as normal. The van and mobile visits will still be operational on a booking basis.
Therefore we will temporarily be closed on Wednesdays to give Sam a day off and save her working 6-7 days a week 🦁💈
Mens health week 10th June - 16th June
In the run up to mens health week and Father’s Day - we thought this necessary to share.
We’ve had a few emotional weeks here…
Finding out two of the regular dads have been struggling with their mental health to such an extent that heartbreakingly they have felt that they’ve no choice but to end their own lives.
We will continue to support the families and in any way we can. And can’t imagine what they must be going through in such a difficult and upsetting time.
Losing a parent for anyone is devastating; but even more so for children, then on top of that children that are also on the spectrum or are non verbal. How do you even begin to try and explain to those little people what has happened?
These two instances could possibly have been avoided with emotional support, the right help and most importantly talking.
So we just want to raise some awareness that…
It’s ok for men to talk about their feelings. Its ok for men to cry and be upset. It’s ok for men to not be ok!
I’ve had my own personal struggles and battles over the years, from struggling to come to terms with initial diagnosis and then the continued difficulties that having SEN children brings, the exhaustion, the mental stresses. Financial struggles, relationship breakdowns, family breakdowns and some serious sibling fallings out a leading to not speaking to family members for years.
Losing my mum to breast cancer and the arguments thereafter over finances and the estate etc.
Having my father diagnosed with COPD and deteriorating daily.
Sometimes struggling with my own thoughts and issues surrounding ADHD.
Constantly feeling like your taking one step forward and two back. Like your existing; not living.
I think we can all relate to any of the above on some level.
Fortunately for me I have gone from bottling everything up, dealing with it all myself and being the “MAN” - to talking to the wife, my parents, friends and other parents at the shop; leaning on people around me for support and guidance whilst offering what I can back. Realising that a problem shared is really a problem halved!
I can fully understand as a man/dad, that it sometimes can feel like you don’t want to burden other people with your issues or try to go it alone as men seem to think that showing emotion or accepting they’re struggling to cope is a sign of weakness. It really isn’t. In fact I’d say it’s the opposite. It takes a real man to open up and realise they sometimes need a little help.
So our door is always open. My phone is always on.
If any dads/Men need to talk, offload, discuss anything or need some support or advice - please please reach out. Same goes for the mums and women; it’s just this has come about due to recent events.
We have been busy this week creating two add on pages to the Cubs and Kings Facebook.
Cubs and Kings - Dads
Cubs and Kings - Mums
These will be safe non judgemental forums to talk, ask for advice or support from others, share any difficulties, experiences.
There will be options to post anonymously and privately message either myself or Rhiannon who will be each running the pages.
We will also be organising regular meet ups or evenings out for both mums and dads too. So keep an eye out for details of this.
Please comment here or message us if you would like to be added to the mums/dads group.
Please encourage the wife/husband/ partners to do the same and join 🦁💈
We have had a lot of people asking about bank holiday hours.
We will be open tomorrow 10am-4pm and Kyle will be in 🦁💈
What a busy day!
Just like to say a big thank you to everyone today for being so patient and understanding! And to those parents who helped sweep, tidy toys and even offer to bring lunch and coffee! It’s all been super appreciated.
Apologies to people for not running to time and appointments today and to those that have had a mobile appointments rearranged.
Sam is still unwell - so have been on my own on a really busy Saturday (being sunny and payday weekend). Everyone has been so understanding and the little people were so good waiting and playing until I got to them.
Will see how Sam goes - but may have an affect on opening hours this week. But will update the page with a post if needed.
If anyone wants an appointment with Shannon specifically; please message us. As this week will be her last week before maternity leave. So may be your last chance for a little while. Or may have to convince your little ones to have me or Sam cut it.
Also we are still looking for new team members. So if anyone has experience in barbering or hairdressing and more importantly has lots of patience, understanding and are SEN/disability aware - we would love to hear from you.
Have a great long weekend!
Kyle and the team 💈🦁
Unfortunately Sam has come over very poorly this afternoon and has had to shut the shop to go home/doctors. We unfortunately couldn’t get anyone else in at short notice to cover.
She has rearranged appointments from this afternoon. If you haven’t been contacted or we couldn’t get hold of you - please let us know and we can rearrange for you.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
We will be open as normal over the weekend. Kyle will be in and Sam; if she is feeling better.
Get well soon Sam! 💈🦁
Sunday SEN sessions
As most are aware we offer SEN sessions on Sundays.
These are quiet appointments on a 1-1 basis.
We often turn away lots of walk ins to keep it quiet and 1-1, so there aren’t others waiting or in the shop.
Rather than opening normally like other barbers and doing several hundred pounds in trade - we choose to do the SEN sessions (making a lot less). This shop was never about the money - it was about helping other parents with the haircut battle as we’ve been there ourselves as SEN parents.
Kyle effectively gives up his Sundays with his own children and wife to help other parents and children. This isn’t for profit or gain.
As the SEN sessions are 1 hour long - we only do 5/6 appointments on a Sunday. So they are limited and we have more children needing them than appointments that are actually available.
We have had 3 missed appointments today out of 6!
When appointments are missed - this is an appointment slot that another child could benefit from and that’s really annoying!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let us know if you aren’t coming to an appointment or can’t make it for any reason.
We understand about illness, not being in the mood, out of routine with holidays. We get that family emergencies come up, accidents or breakdowns etc can occur. But if you call or message us to make us aware we can accept a walk in or offer the appointment to someone else on the waiting list.
If we keep experiencing non attendance and failed appointments, we will be forced to start taking deposits or pre-payment. This isn’t really something we want to do 💈🦁
What a lovely day to be at Rushden lakes - suns shining, nice and warm.
We’re next to primark and fat face - pop down and say hello. Walk in haircuts available until 5.30/6pm 💈🦁
EASTER WEEKEND OPENING HOURS
Good Friday - 9.30-5.30 as normal
Saturday - 9-5.30 as normal
(Kyle will be with the van at Rushden lakes from 9-5.30 too!)
Easter Sunday - closed
Easter Monday - closed
Tuesday onward back to normal hours 💈🦁
Just come across this and was pretty hard hitting.
One of my hardest battles is not knowing what the future looks like for our little people. Not being able to plan too far ahead. Not knowing if they will have a career, children of their own, get married. Or know what is possible for them.
One thing I do know is that they will be given every opportunity I’m able to provide for them.
Always know there are people who understand at the shop - here for you as fellow SEN parents. Reach out if you need us 💈🦁
Kyle is in the shop all day tomorrow (TUESDAY). Covering for Shannon and Sam.
We have spaces free throughout the day for appointments and walk ins 🦁💈
Kyle will be taking the van Rushden lakes on Saturday 30th March - we will be offering walk in appointments all day between 9.30-5.30.
We will be pitched near the food court area, next to fat face/primark. Pop over and see us 🦁💈
A little bit of fun in the shop - as it’s the run up to Easter.
We have hidden lots of Easter eggs around the shop. Some are small, some are large. Look high and low, in corners and crevices. Not all of them are obvious!
We will give you a clue - there are between 25-45.
If you find and count them, leave your guess of how many there are, your name and contact number in the box on the desk and we will pick a lucky winner on Easter weekend who will receive an Easter sweet and chocolate hamper! 🦁💈
We still have some availability tomorrow afternoon; either for SEN sessions or standard cuts.
We are also open all week for those half term and back to school cuts. Kyle is in Monday instead of Sam as it’s her birthday! 💈🦁
Unfortunately we won’t be open this morning due to staff absence. Sam will be in this afternoon as normal 💈🦁
So proud of Tyler. Was a pleasure to do this cut 🦁💈
Selfless Corby schoolboy donates hair and money to Little Princess charity He had been growing his hair for five years
Morning all -
Unfortunately we won’t be open today. Sam isn’t very well and we have nobody available to cover for her.
We have tried to messaged everyone who has appointments to rearrange; but if you’ve been missed and need to rearrange please pop us a message.
Open tomorrow as normal - Kyle will be in. Sam too if she feels better 🦁💈
Slight change of plan today -
Sam isn’t feeling well. So will be just opening tomorrow instead.
Apologies for any inconvenience. We have messaged any appointments to rearrange for tomorrow - if you’ve been missed, please get in touch 🦁💈
That’s the presents all wrapped and under the tree.
All the veg and food prepped.
All bathed and matching pi’s donned. Snacks for the big guy put out and reindeer food scattered.
Chinese eaten and games played.
Time for chocolate and tv.
Hope you’re Christmas is filled with family, love, laughter, good food and happy little people.
Merry Christmas everyone! 🦁💈
Kyle and Sam are in the shop all day today if you are thinking of popping in.
We have spaces all day as there’s 2 of us. Beat the rush tomorrow 🦁💈

We understand it’s hotter at the moment and sometimes things go wrong, sickness, family emergencies or our little people just aren’t feeling up to a cut or are having a bad day emotionally.
But please let us know - call or message in.
The SEN appointments get heavily booked up and if we are aware you can’t make it; then we can offer someone else the appointment; or bring appointments forward, so Kyle can have an early day and get home to spend time with his own children. Or even accept a few walk ins - which we regularly turn away on Sundays due to expecting customers for SEN sessions.
Thank you 🦁💈
