Physio4Progress
We provide specialised physiotherapy treatment for a range of complex adults and children's conditions in the clinic or in your preferred setting.
Our therapists are extensively trained and are known for making a difference regardless of the complexity. We provide specialised physiotherapy treatment for a range of paediatric conditions and are recognised by our ability to make a difference regardless of the complexity.
Specialist Seating Systems
Specialist Seating Systems are mainly used for persons with motor disorders. They aid with swallowing, digestion, communication, and use of hands to engage in activities. This has a positive impact on the person’s self-esteem, confidence and well -being as it enables interaction with their surroundings.
Positioning Systems
Positioning Systems, example Sleep Systems, are used to manage posture with children and adults with movement problems. Positioning Systems can be used as part of persons therapy program to help prevent distortion of body shape and pain, maintain symmetrical body posture and improve engagement in daily life.
Standing Frames
Standing frames are used in physiotherapy especially with children from the age of 1 yr. to help promote their ability to stand. Standing helps strengthen the muscles in the body. It also contributes towards maintaining flexibility of the muscles. They also improve bowel and bladder function. There are different types of standing frames depending on the person’s ability to use it. The consensus is to use them daily for up to an hour.
Developmental Delay
A delay in the child’s ability to walk or talk is classed as developmental delay. If both are involved, then it’s called global developmental delay. Multitude of factors could be responsible but the cause could remain unknown. Most children walk around 18 months of age and say several words even if they are not clear. The early years are crucial as the brain is developing so the earlier you seek input the better the outcome.

Virtual Reality
It’s going to change the way patients are treated with technology that creates virtual environments. Virtual Reality (VR) is an artificial environment that the user experiences as if they were really there.
VR systems can be immersive or non-immersive. In immersive VR, the user can explore and interact with a 3D, computer-generated environment. They become part of this virtual world and are able to manipulate objects or perform a series of actions. VR uses movement-sensing head-mounted displays, with or without additional hand controls. Non-immersive systems use a visual display such as a flat-screen projector, television, curved screen or walled projection room. The user can interact with the system using a hand-held controller, for example, or through sensors and/or cameras that detect and display their movement.
Virtual reality is important for education and training, virtual clinics, patient motivation and personalised rehabilitation.
Health Education England has produced four immersive videos Allied Health Professionals Virtual Reality - Technology Enhanced Learning (hee-vr360.azurewebsites.net) that demonstrate roles in different healthcare professions.

Play in the Early Years
Play is a key factor in young children's development and it can affect how they learn and how they feel. The early years is one of the critical periods in the establishment of physical behaviours and physical development is also one of the prime areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage as well as other, global, curricula. The ability to complete the functional task of play in childhood requires gross motor, fine motor, sensory processing and cognitive skills. Here is some information on play activities and resources in the early years - Gross Motor Skills and the Development of Play in Children - Your Therapy Source

Paediatric physiotherapy is a branch of physiotherapy that works with children and young people up to the age of 18 to address a wide range of problems linked with their muscles, nerves or the brain and spinal cord. It helps improve their ability to learn, engage in play or hobbies or achieve their goals while simultaneously empowering them.
Tips to maintain healthy weight
If you're overweight, losing weight will give you more energy and help to reduce the risk of obesity, heart disease and type 2 diabetes. The body mass index (BMI) is a measure that uses your height and weight to work out if your weight is healthy. A BMI calculation in the healthy weight range is between 18.5 to 24.9. BMI Calculator.
Things you can do to lose weight
- Incorporate physical activities in your day - Walking at least 30 minutes on a daily basis.
- Incorporate fruits and vegetables in your diet.
- Aim to lose 0.5 kgs or 1lb a week
- Read food labels before you buy.
- Be mindful of level of salt, sugar and fat in your diet.
- Be consistent as maintaining health weight is like a journey.
How to care for children with complex needs
If your child has been diagnosed with an illness, disability or sensory impairment and needs a lot of additional support on a daily basis, they're described as having "complex needs". It helps to be part of a support network so you can share ideas and benefit from each other’s experience. If your GP surgery has carers register, ask to be added. Your local authority is responsible for providing any non-medical care services your child is assessed as needing. To access services from your local authority, you'll need to ask for your child to have a needs assessment https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/social-care-and-support-guide/help-from-social-services-and-charities/getting-a-needs-assessment/. There is also help available for single parents https://www.gingerbread.org.uk/. You might want to check if you are entitled to benefits https://www.gov.uk/benefits-calculators.
Children with Special Needs - Disability Living Allowance and Council Tax
Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for children may help with the extra costs of looking after a child who is under 16 and has difficulties walking or needs much more looking after than a child of the same age who does not have a disability. They must have had these difficulties for at least 3 months and expect them to last for at least 6 months. If a medical professional has said they might have 12 months or less to live, they do not need to have had these difficulties for 3 months. The DLA rate is between £26.90 and £172.50 a week and depends on the level of help the child needs. Please refer to their website for more information Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for children: Overview - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
Council Tax - You might be able to apply for a Council Tax discount or exemption if you or someone you live with is disabled. If you qualify, your bill will be reduced to the next lowest Council Tax band. If your home is already in the lowest band (Band A), you’ll get a 17% discount on your Council Tax bill instead. For more information, please visit How Council Tax works: Discounts for disabled people - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
