HMRC have issued the latest employer bulletin, some useful information and reminders on;
- pension compliance for temporary and seasonal staff
- payment of HMRC liabilities to be made the Friday before if payment date falls on a weekend
- payrolling benefits will be mandatory from 2026-2027 but you can register ahead of time to payroll for 2025-2026

Did you know that HMRC have lots of online tools to help employers, including this one.
If you are not sure what tax code to put a new employee on you can follow the steps and it will explain what to do. This can be especially useful if you are dealing with employees who join in the new tax year but have a P45 issued prior to the end of the last tax year.
Work out your new employee's tax code Work out your new employee's tax code and starter declaration to set them up on your payroll software and register them with HMRC.
New National Living and National Minimum Wage rates, to apply for all pay reference periods starting on or after 1st April.
- Age 21 and over £11.44
- Age 18-20 £8.60
- Under 18 £6.40
- Apprentice £6.40 (if age 19 or over for the first year only)
If a Living Wage Foundation employer, to apply by 1st May.

- Employees NI reducing to 8% from 6th April
- NMW rates increasing for pay reference periods from 1st April
- High Income Child Benefit Charge threshold increasing to £60,000 with a taper to £80,000 from 6th April
- 2023-24 P11D's due to be submitted by 6th July

Following yesterdays announcement regarding the reducing access to helplines HMRC have now halted these changes following feedback!
HMRC helpline changes halted Changes to HM Revenue and Customs’ (HMRC) helpline services are being halted while it considers how best to help taxpayers harness online services.
HMRC Helplines
HMRC have advised that from 8th April 2024 there will be changes to their helplines to encourage more customers to use their online services.
The following changes will be permanent going forward;
- Self Assessment helpline closed between 8th April 2024 and 30th September 2024.
- Self Assessment Peak helpline open between 1st October and 31st January, during February and March helpline will be available to deal with queries about penalties and appeals.
- VAT helpline will be open for 5 business days each month in the lead up to the filing VAT deadline.
- PAYE helpline will no longer handle calls about PAYE refunds, these will be directed online.

The Department for Business and Trade has released the guidance on the Holiday pay and entitlement reforms from 1st January 2024. These changes come into effect for irregular hour and part-year workers for holiday years beginning on or after 1st April 2024.
Worth a read for all who employ staff on either irregular (zero) hour contract or have part-year workers.

The Employee National Insurance Contribution (NIC) rate is decreasing from 12% to 10% from 6th January giving employees a few pounds extra in their pockets.
The directors employee NIC rate for the year will be 11.5%. Don't forget that all directors, whether they are on the cummulative annual or alternative calculation method must have their NI recalculated at the end of the tax year to ensure the correct amount has been paid.
National Insurance contribution (NIC) changes coming into effect from 6 January Don't forget the primary class 1 NIC changes.

The National Minimum Wage from April has been announced at £11.44 for those 21 and over, a big increase from the current £10.42 (23yrs+) and £10.18 (21-22yrs).
Minimum wage to rise to £11.44 per hour The new rate will apply to those aged 21 and over for the first time, the chancellor says.
Class1B National Insurance is due this month, don't forget to make payment by the 22nd October.
Class 1B National Insurance is payable on benefits reported through a PAYE Settlement Agreement (PSA).
Due to the mid-year change to NI in the Class 1B for the benefits reported on your PSA for 2022-23 is 14.53%.
