I shared a staggering statistic in May stating how many households dont have annual boiler servicing carried out. Here's why you should ⬇️

💧You should have your boiler serviced at least once a year to ensure it functions correctly and does not have any water or gas leaks.

❓️When should you service your boiler?
Here are some instances when you should consider getting a boiler service.

📅 It's been 12 months since your last boiler service
Keep track of when you last had your annual boiler service, and make sure you book your next boiler service within 12 months.

🏡 You have recently moved
Unless you have a written record of services from the previous homeowner, you cannot tell for sure when the boiler was last serviced.
It is best to play it safe and have a service carried out as soon as possible.
Keep track of this date to schedule your next services every 12 months from then (I personally send out reminders when my customers are due their service)

⚠️ If the efficiency of your boiler is degrading
Even if you have been responsible and stuck to your annual boiler service schedule, you might notice that your heating system is having some issues. This could be that the water does not get hot enough, you suspect a gas leak, or you see an increase in your energy bills.
If the efficiency of your boiler is dropping, it is time to schedule a service to find and repair any problems.

❓️Why do you need to service your boiler?
During winter, your boiler and heating system work hard to heat the home and provide hot water to the household. There are many different components to a boiler, and they all need to be checked through regular boiler services to ensure all parts are working correctly.

Here are some reasons you should consider having your boiler service done regularly.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👧 Your home will be safer. Gas leaks and carbon monoxide poisoning are not common, but knowing you’ve had your boiler serviced and done what you can to protect against these risks will bring you and your family peace of mind.

🌟 Your boiler is more efficient. If your boiler is working more efficiently, you will be saving money on costly boiler repairs and have lower energy expenses.

🔍 Issues can be detected before they become big problems. During a boiler service the engineer will find and repair any problems that can become costly to fix if left untreated.

⚠️ Breakdowns will be less likely. The types of checks that the engineer will run means it can diagnose problems early and prevent a complete boiler failure in the future.

📝 Your warranty requires it. If your boiler is still under warranty, you risk having your warranty invalidated if you do not get an annual boiler service. This means that should something happen to the boiler; you will have to pay out of pocket for a boiler replacement.

This week was a little bit of a special one, replacing one of my own boilers. First time I’ve been asked to replace one of my older installations. A Baxi Platinum I installed back in 2013 replaced with a new Baxi 630 Combi 2. Shame to take the old Platinum out but the primary as it’s a great reliable boiler, sadly the primary heat exchanger on this one was leaking causing constant pressure loss.

New Centrebrand RF programmable stat installed with a new Adey Magnaclean Pro 2 also installed with this installation.

Installing a boiler today, happily working away some tunes playing in the background. For an Angel by Paul van D**e was released in 1994 I do believe, customer was born in 1992….. not sure weather to laugh or cry…. 🤔

Nice little job the other week using Tracpipe for the first time. Upgrading a gas pipe supplying a boiler. Impressive gear to be fair made running the new gas pipe a lot easier. 28mm Trac pipe from the meter to the boiler making sure the working pressure was correct at meter and boiler inlet.

As part of your annual boiler service, we also check the water quality to ensure your system is running effectively or if it needs flushing. Poor water quality is the most common cause of heating system breakdowns.

Good water quality is crucial when it comes to protecting heating systems so they can operate efficiently over short and long term.

If untreated homeowners could face an increase in energy costs or expensive repair bills if vital components fail.

In most cases, a system flush should be performed every 5 to 6 years to keep your boiler clean. This is something that should be performed by a heating engineer, and it can help extend your boilers lifespan.

A system flush should also always be done on your central heating system before a new boiler is installed.

Couple of pictures from today, started off with a radiator change in a bathroom, then onto another radiator changing a single panel to a double in a cold bedroom. Finally onto a boiler repair, replacing a blown fan in a Worcester Bosch along with the burner seal topped off with replacing a tired old RF stat for a newer model.

Not something I’d normally post but today this has really gotten under my skin. I rang a customer of 8 years today to remind them of their annual boiler service, to be told they’d had a new boiler installed and everything was ok.
Last year after the service the boilers expansion vessel didn’t take the charge. This happens sometimes. I was called back, returned, recharged and left. The customer was happy and I did it for no extra charge.

It seems the fault persisted and they’ve called another “engineer” who has convinced them they needed a new boiler. Instead of replacing the £100 part they’ve been conned into a new boiler.

Please, I implore anyone, if they are unsatisfied with my work and have had someone else try to convince them they need a new boiler etc please ask for my opinion. If a boiler can be repaired I’ll repair it. I’ll never push a boiler change on anyone unnecessarily. These people have spent £1000’s of pounds needlessly.

The old hair dryer trick on a boiler I’ve not seen in a long time…….

Bit of a frantic one this week, emergency install for someone as their 20 year old boiler burst. Price given and boiler installed the next day. Out with the old Worcester and in went a Baxi 600 with 7 year manufactures warranty.

Working in a small space certainly didn’t help the knees and managed to get cramp in places other cramp just won’t touch 🙄🤣
