Shireland Biomedical UTC Sixth Form is excited to announce its upcoming open event on Tuesday 22 October 2024, 4.30pm-7.00pm for prospective students and their parents. No booking required - simply turn up.

Shireland Biomedical UTC is proud to be the UK’s first University Technical College (UTC) specialising in the medical sciences. We offer a distinctive education that seamlessly integrates the best of academic knowledge with practical experience.

Our sixth form offers a broad range of A level and vocational courses designed to meet the diverse needs and aspirations of our students. With unique facilities, including mock hospital ward and immersive learning space, we bring students’ education to life by applying it to real-world context, fostering a supportive and innovative environment that enriches their learning experience.

Through partnerships with leading employers and institutions like Birmingham City University, our students also gain invaluable industry exposure, including work experience, employer-based projects and comprehensive career guidance. This ensures that our learners develop the skills and connections needed for success, whether they choose to pursue university degrees, apprenticeships or direct employment.

During this event, families will have the opportunity to tour the Academy’s state-of-the-art facilities, explore our broad curriculum and meet with the Academy’s teaching staff and leadership team. They will also gain a comprehensive insight about student life at sixth form, equipping them with the information needed to make an informed decision about their post-16 education.

Our philosophy is to provide a traditional sixth form experience that nurtures well-rounded, independent learners equipped with the skills and knowledge for a fulfilling and successful future. Today marks the culmination of years of hard work and dedication for students, their families and the Academy’s dedicated staff who have supported them every step of the way as they now look to secure places at their chosen universities, apprenticeships and employment.

This year, 96% of A level students achieved three or more passes at grades A*-E, with Biology, English Literature, Maths, Sociology, Psychology, Italian and Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) attaining a 100% pass rate.

In addition to the Academy’s continued success, performances were particularly strong in Applied Science and Health and Social Care, with BTEC Applied Science achieving 100% Distinction* grades.

Kayleigh Steed, Head of Sixth Form at Shireland Biomedical UTC, commented: “Today celebrates the hard-earned successes and achievements of our students, whose dedication and perseverance have truly paid off. It has been an inspiration to see their aspirations come to fruition; their results reflecting not only academic excellence but their personal growth during their time with us.

“We are incredibly proud of them all and excited to see where their futures take them and wish them every success and happiness. We would also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our exceptional staff, whose guidance and support have been instrumental in helping our students thrive.”

Students pursuing BTEC courses have also excelled this year, with 97% gaining qualifications equivalent to three or more A level passes at grades A*-E, mirroring the success of their A level peers. This means that BTEC students at Shireland Biomedical UTC have secured an average grade of Distinction.

The doors for both events will be open from 4:00pm-7:00pm for both events, no need to book just turn up.

The wait's almost over!

School will be open from 8.30am tomorrow for students to collect their results and speak to staff.

There’s always been something special about collecting your results in person on results day! It’s a chance to share in the excitement with friends, receive immediate support and guidance from teachers and celebrate your hard work together. Plus, it’s the perfect moment to walk the hallways one last time and say your goodbyes before embarking on your next exciting chapter. 🎓
