Doctor Cranks Whitby Ghost Walk
Join me, Doctor Crank, on a walk around the back streets of Whitby and hear the strange stories of this Spooky towns ghostly history.
An "Atmospheric " shot from a couple of nights ago.
Joined on the walk a couple of nights ago by these enigmatic creatures. They insisted on holding my magic stick for the photo....
If you were hoping to come on the walk on Monday 19th August, it has been called off. I forgot when I set this months dates that next Monday is Whitby regatta fair. This takes over a lot of the town, and I remember the last time I did a walk on this evening....not good! Sorry!
Some of Tuesday nights mob. I love it when people make the effort to get dressed up!
Steampunk or goth, all are welcome on "Doctor Cranks World Famous Ghost Walk "! And thank you so much to these two ladies. When my voice went, they gave me a piece of whitby rock to suck. Made such a difference!
A nice shot of Friday's walk. A pack of pouncing Vampires!
Just a quick "thank you" to the group last night. It was so wild up on West cliff we had to shelter next to the Royal Hotel before we set off! However, what a great walk it turned out to be!
Nice walk last night. However, we were joined by this large, black devil dog....Coco! As always, being a sausage dog, she had an attitude. Despite her owners best efforts to keep her quiet, she voiced her opinion whenever she felt like it. Normally I would ask them to take the pooch to one side until it quietened down, but last night I just let her have her say. I can, and will, forgive sausage dogs anything. Always.
One of the most common questions I get asked is, "Have you ever seen a ghost?" Well, I live in a haunted house! Since Carole and I moved here, over 20 years ago, we have had,"unexplained activity ". It's always been the same thing, clocks being adjusted. Every clock in the house has, at some time, had its time altered. Wrist watches, wall clocks, mobile phones, computers, even the mechanical heating timer! It doesn't bother us now, it's just a bit annoying when Caroles alarm for work goes off 2 or 3 hours early! The latest occurrence was 3 days ago. My trusty Timex changed itself by exactly 1 hour! I put it right, and it has kept perfect time since. I always like to put a picture up when I do a post, so here's one of my watch. (The date hasn't worked for over 25 years now!)
Some walks are just more fun than others. That's just how it is. I could tell before we set off tonight that it was going to be a good one. They laughed at the stupid jokes and they even made a few up themselves! However, the star was a little black dog that I was warned about at the start of the walk. Don't worry about his teeth, i was told, it's his farts that will get you! Sure enough, just as I was about to deliver the final line of a story, little pumpy bum let rip. You know when you blow a balloon up, and let the air squeak out? It was just like that! I waited for the laughter to die down, and was just about to deliver the final line. Then it hit. Imagine sewer gas, mixed with burned kippers, it was just like that. Luckily, my eyes had stopped watering by the next story.
Just a big thanks to everyone who joined me this year on my walks. I missed most of the year due to a motorcycle racing crash, but I'm now 100% back and ready for another year of spooky stories, terrible punchlines, and all round daftness! I'll leave you with a group of victims from the other night. All the best, Doctor Crank!
Took the "in search of Dracula" group up to Draculas bench last night. Normally after goth weekend there are flowers, poem's and such on the bench. This time, however, all that were there were these. Quite chilling!
Well, that was a walk and a half! Halloween is always busy, but this year was my biggest yet! Have you ever tried stuffing 200 people into a small alley and getting them all to see and hear you? After the walk I did a bit of "market research " to find out how they found out about the walk. I was surprised, but thankful, to find that most of the crowd were personally recommended or were even repeat visitors! However, next year I'm going to have to do 2 walks on Halloween! It's been a few years since I've done a "double shift ", but needs must...
Tonight's unruly crowd. My voice went a few times tonight, so I hope you forgive me for that! Trying to talk to 140 people, and still keeping the atmosphere is taking it's toll!
Just a piccy of last night's mob. Thanks for that you lot!
Last night, as I left the house to go to "work", Carole said to me, "see you in 20 minutes! Storm Babet was raging when I got to the whale bones, and as i sat in my car, with the heater on, and the windscreen wipers flat out, I could just make out 2 couples getting battered by the wind and rain. I thought, " surely, they aren't waiting for the walk?" But with 5 minutes to go, they were still there...."ah well", I thought, "I'll just go and tell them how dreadful the next hour would be". But they were having none of it! However, it turned out to be a lovely walk! The rain stopped, the wind dropped, and it was warm! So thanks to the couples from Manchester, and London. You were great! (Oh, and thanks for the big tips you all gave, MUCH appreciated!)
Really enjoyed tonight's walk. Good crowd, but we were joined, at various places, by an owl,(giving me the chance to do my owl joke), a relentlessly barking dog, a Whitby Weasel and towards the finish, Biggles the bat! Still decent sized crowds and good weather.
Well, what a summer! In "dry dock" for most of it with my broken bits and pieces! However, the last couple of weeks have been great! Big, engaging crowds, and even "Biggles the bat" making a regular appearance on the walk! As always, I like it when people send in pictures of me on the walk. I sometimes forget how handsome I am, so when I see the pics, it just confirms my striking good looks!
To all of you who have been asking about my broken bones, I have had an X Ray today, and things are looking good! I'm still on crutches, but I'm finding the walk much easier. So for September, the "in search of Dracula" walk is back on. Just check the diary on the website, whitbywalks.com, for confirmed dates.
To everyone who wished me well after my "incident ", thank you so much. However, I can now confirm that the walks will be starting again on Friday. Have a look at the website diary for details. Bye for now, Karl.
Multiple fractures of the pelvis. It stings a bit....
Had abit of an accident yesterday, and unfortunately I can't walk at the moment. I've had to cancel all of my private and public walks for now. Not sure when I'll be back on my feet. Sorry!
Just a big "thank you" to last night's crowd. Best group I've had for a while. Laughed at my bad "punchlines ", and even looked as if they were enjoying it! A special mention must go to the big black cat that watched us as I told the "witches cat" story. If you remember the final line to that story, you'll know what I mean...
This was the backdrop to tonight's "In search of Dracula " walk. The fog costs me quite a lot of money to organise, so it was good to see that the crowd appreciated it. Thanks to everyone for joining me tonight, it was a great walk!
Great walk last night! Good to see lots of goths joining us. Unfortunately, my best "punchline " was ruined by the arrival of a large fox that sat behind me and , understandably, took the crowds attention! I know lots of you took photos of the fox, but did anyone get one of it behind me, mocking my performance?
