An annual appeal where the local Buffs get involved with the community, to raise funds for charity and good causes through a monthly social night, quizes, fun nights and other events.
2021 - This year we a carrying forward with the two good causes from 2020 due to the stopping and restarting of our fundraising as a result of the pandemic. The Whitby Community Transport Scheme and Saint Catherines Hospice.
Mike Stanforth and John Hansell from Whitby Buffs hand over a cheque to Whitby Eastside Community Centre which went towards buying equipment for their kitchen.
This young lady is Jeanie May Cooke who lives in Grimsby, pictured with Richard Hardy from Grimsby Buffs. For her birthday all she wanted was lots of birthday cards, and so the Buffs in Grimsby put out a nationwide appeal. We in Whitby responded by asking our supporters to send Jeanie a card for her birthday, and she got sacks and sacks of cards from all over the country, including from Whitby.
Its what we do
WHAT HAPPENS ON THE CHARITY SOCIAL NIGHT ? -- We have a couple of games of Bingo, we have a Quiz + the Cash Accumulator Question and we have a Raffle.
Last year we also had a Race Night at The Black Swan and a Live Music Night at The Friendship Club.
Our appeal for 2020 was badly hampered and interupted by the Covid Pandemic, and therefore we decided to carry on fund raising for the same appeal through 2021. We are fundraising for TWO good causes this year - Saint Catherines Hospice & Whitby Community Transport Scheme.
We will have our first Social Night for 2021 on Saturday 29th May from about 8.30pm, the venue is the RAOB meeting hall, Forresters Court, and our bar will be open, we have some catching up to do, so please support us if you can. Anyone is welcome to come along, but please remember that Social Distancing Rules will apply, do not forget to bring a face mask, and you will be required to sign in.
The annual Charity Appeal by the Buffs in Whitby was established many years ago, and is where the members and their wives, partners and families engage with the community to raise money for good causes and charities. We do this through our Monthly Social Night which is always on the last Saturday of each month. The Monthly Social is held at the RAOB meeting hall, Forresters Court, Church Street, and is open to anyone who would like to come along. We also occassionaly organise fun nights, race nights, quizes etc in other pubs and clubs.
