Whitby's Swing Bridge will once again be closed to traffic this weekend for April's goth weekend.
It will be closed between 10.30am and 4pm on both Saturday and Sunday to improve pedestrian safety and support the town’s economy.

🔥 ☠️ Krampus Fire & Dance ☠️ 🔥
Whitby Krampus Run is a costumed street parade bringing the Krampus to life (see previous videos), celebrating festive folklore.
Led by St. Nicholas, the Krampus follow behind marching to the beat of the drums. Fire & Smoke add to the excitement of this event.
The Krampus is considered to be a half-goat, half-demon monster in some legends. While St. Nicholas treats and rewards good children. The Krampus’ role is to punish bad children or scare them into being good.
Nowadays, the krampus don't try to catch nasty children any more, but to preserve the tradition and to show themselves in public.
The parade, the fire show and the Krampus Ball (ticketed event tonight at The Met) are charity fundraisers. They have raised thousands of pounds for St Catherine's Hospice & Whitby Wildlife Sanctuary.

Our Story
Hi 👋🏼 We are Zed, Emma, Zak & Aniya
We wanted to take this opportunity to introduce or reintroduce ourselves to everyone and to put a face behind our business.
Zed & I (Emma) have had the Riviera Guesthouse for 10 years. Prior to this, my Dad had ran the Riviera, it was ‘his baby’ - hospitality ran through his blood. We both had jobs in social work/care when my Dad suddenly died.
We initially took over with a view to selling it but very quickly realised how much we loved it (same blood I guess!). We loved Whitby and we loved helping guests experience the best the town has to offer; so decided to make it our life. A decade on and we feel this even stronger!
We have two children, Zak (6 years old) and Aniya (3 years old) who love getting involved with Guesthouse life.
Riviera Guesthouse is an award-winning friendly, family-run guesthouse with stunning panoramic views over the North Sea. The views stretch from the next Bay (Sandsend) across the sea to Whitby Harbour Entrance.
The Guesthouse is a 'stone's throw' away from the sandy beach and within walking distance of the town with it’s vibrant fishing harbour, beautiful and unique shops, restaurants, and tourist attractions (e.g. Captain Cooks Museum, the Dracula Experience, Boat Trips and Whitby Abbey with it's famous 199 steps).
The majority of our rooms are sea facing and have en-suite facilities, LCD TVs, refreshment trays and large white fluffy towels.
The breakfast dining rooms have 'floor to ceiling' Bay Windows with stunning sea views - a fantastic environment to fill your tummy (cooked and continental breakfast inclusive in the price)!
