Cycling along the Langdale Valley with our E-bikes from Total Adventure in Windermere

Let the e-bike take the strain! We hired ours from Total Adventure in Windermere. A brilliant way to explore some of the off-road upland areas of the Lakes!

Wonderful walk up Wetherlam from Tilberthwaite - with the added bonus of a superb Andy Goldsworthy slate fold - one of the 46 installations in his Sheepfold project.

We’re planting young native trees including silver birch, copper beech and hazel at Applethwaite Hall to replace the non-native conifers which came down in Storm Arwen a couple of years ago. Let’s hope we can keep them from the marauding local deer!

Sometimes when conditions are just right (as they have been recently) there is the most amazing sight - an inversion layer of cloud over Windermere. Viewed here from Orrest Head - just a 15 minute walk from The Mulberry at Applethwaite Hall

Congratulations The Old Stamp House for retaining their Michelin star. A dinner reservation at short notice is virtually impossible, but check out lunchtime availability and you might get lucky. We had a superlative lunch tasting menu recently. Their sister a la carte restaurant Kysty reaches the same sky high standards!

A beautiful property in a quiet location, clean with a well stocked kitchen with everything you need. Plenty of space and home comforts with amazing views. Location 5 minute drive to Windermere centre. The boot room/cloak room was useful for wet boots coats and heated airer in own cupboard a nice touch.

We had a recent trip round to beautiful and remote to explore the nature restoration project taking place. You might have read the wonderful book Wildfell by Wild Haweswater manager Lee Schofield explaining his connection with this very special area and the extraordinary work being done there.

The red squirrels at National Trust Allan Bank putting on another great show! A lovely walk afterwards out of Grasmere and up Easedale. The autumn colours are stunning in Lake District National Park

There are some fantastic places to eat in the Lake District. What a treat last night! Dinner at one of our all time favourites Gilpin Spice. The very best in modern pan-Asian food. Crispy duck, sea bream in banana leaves and chicken tomato pumpkin seed curry! The prawns in 5 spice and black vinegar sauce didn’t hang around long enough for a photo!

This was the ninth time we have stayed at the Mulberry. The apartment was, again, prepared to the usual high standard and presented in perfect order. The Mulberry is our 'go to' place in the Lakes.

Who doesnt love a herdwick? Here being rounded up and brought down from the Troutbeck fells for a haircut! The red spot is the owner's mark. Hefting is the natural process by which sheep graze the precise same spot from generation to generation, with the instinct being passed from ewe to lamb, allowing them to roam freely without enclosure.

When we're staying at the Mulberry, we love to eat at The Yan at Broadrayne - such a favourite! Cool interiors, great service and locally sourced high quality produce with a modern twist.
