Day 24 and the Challenge is DONE!!!!

I finished it off by doing my first 5k in a very long time. It felt good, helped by a gorgeous frosty morning 🌄

Although I certainly haven't got the running bug, I've weirdly enjoyed this challenge and hope to keep up with a run or two a week going forwards.

I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who's encouraged me, supported me and donated. I definitely couldn't have done this without you!

🔁 The Cravings Loop 🔁

Do you have one craving or bad habit that no matter what you do, you can't seem to quit?

🍷 A glass of wine at the end of a long day?
🍫 A 3pm chocolate bar to get you through the afternoon?
🍲 Crisps before bed in front of the TV?

Do you find these cravings are your biggest hurdle when it comes to trying to follow healthier habits or lose weight?

Most of us suffer from cravings.

They're super common.

And if you're one of the 90% of people who do, you know just how hard they are to ignore.

But you CAN overcome them without having to rely on willpower.

You first need to know that cravings work in a LOOP:

1️ Cue
2️ Routine
3️ Reward

(And repeat.)

Let's take a brief look at what each one means:

Cue = What triggers this craving? Boredom? Hunger? Stress? Need a break from the laptop?

Routine = What you do? (go to the shop, buy a chocolate bar for example)

Reward = The chocolate bar? Seeing friends? Change of scenery? Temporary distraction? Boost of energy?

Secondly, you need to follow this strategy for changing habits:

1. Identify the routine
2. Experiment with rewards
3. Isolate the cue
4. Have a plan

Start changing this habit you want to break, by figuring out your own habit loop.

The first step is to identify the routine.

As with most habits – the routine is the most obvious aspect: it’s the behaviour you want to change.

Then understand what your reward is. How does having or doing this habit make you feel?

Then work out your cue. What's your trigger for this habit?

Change might not be fast and it isn’t always easy. But with time and effort, almost any habit can be reshaped.

How did it get this bad? 😥

I remember the days when I'd look in the mirror and ask myself, “how did it get this bad?”

When I struggled with my weight, I hated how I felt in my clothes and what I saw in the mirror.

I'd spend the day feeling self conscious and miserable.

✋ Yep - I knew I should just eat healthier.
✋ And I knew I should exercise.

But......

❓ Who has the time?
❓ Or the energy?
❓ Or even know what to do?

Besides … did I really have enough willpower and motivation to start yet another diet?

As I had failed miserably so far......

So maybe it just wasn't possible for me?

What was the point in trying again?

I felt stuck.

I just wanted to LOVE what I saw in the mirror and feel like 'me' again.

I longed for a normal relationship with food.......

Rather than just use it as an emotional crutch.

Or as a reward or a punishment, depending on how my day had panned out.

Everything else in my life was working…..and working well.

But something was missing.

And that something was ME.

So - I decided to make a change.

A change that was different to before (because that hadn't worked so why keep trying??)

❌ So I didn’t hit the gym every day or cut out carbs.

❌ I didn't live off shakes or skip breakfast to save a few calories.

❌ I didn't count calories/sins/points/macros or refuse social events.

❌ And I didn't put pressure on myself to lose weight as quickly as possible.

Instead, I started by changing the way I THOUGHT about myself and my weight.

I took the time to understand WHY I wanted the goal I'd been chasing for years.

I put 'me' first for once and made a little time for myself every day, however small.

Then I took the baby steps needed to build a body I felt confident and happy in.

And I’ll tell you… that was so much easier with my mind in the right place.

With that negative little voice in my head no longer throwing me off course.

Now I want to help you too......

Which is why I’m running my Transform In 4 programme this month.

Here I'll share the simple and powerful steps you can take, so you can lose weight easily AND keep it off in just 20mins a day.

🛑 Your Non-Negotiables 🛑

When it comes to weight loss, it's as important to set your 'non-negotiables' as it is goals.

You have to sit down with yourself and decide what you're going to sacrifice on your journey to that goal......

And more importantly - what you're NOT.

You need to consider what you're truly ready, willing and able to commit to.

Not what you THINK you should do.

And decide what is simply not an option for you (at least not right now).

This is the only way to ensure reaching that goal is as easy and sustainable as possible.

This is what I do to ensure I easily maintain the weight I lost earlier this year.

Here are my non-negotiables:

❌ I never tell myself I CAN'T have something. Every decision is a CHOICE

❌ I have 1-2 evenings a week where I'll eat or drink what I like and not feel guilty about it

❌ I aim for consistency with good habits - not perfection - 75% of the time, and relax the other 25%

❌ I enjoy a sugar in my tea every day and not care that I do - tea is meant to be enjoyed!

❌ I will prioritise and schedule in my meal planning, prep & training and my work will fit around this - not the other way around

❌ I will drink at least 2 litres of water and walk an average of 10,000 steps a day

❌ I will commit to training 4-5 per week at CrossFit

Think of your non-negotiables as a linchpin to organise your day around.

Or even a mantra to live by.

Either way, they will keep you directed toward your big goal(s) every day.

🤔 You are what you THINK 🤔

Your thoughts affect your body.

Even when you’re not aware of it, your physical self is responding to what it hears from your mental self.

In other words, your body is listening to you.

So, when you tell yourself, “I can’t do it,......”
......that leads to your shoulders shrugging and your butt planting itself on the sofa.

When you say, “I’ll never be good enough,” your energy plummets.

And when you say, “I’m going to make it happen today,” guess what?

YOU DO.

You might even feel a physical charge of determination.

You might start imagining yourself doing your workout or prepping a healthy dinner.

And you'll observe how amazing you’ll feel when you’re done.

I’ve even seen this in clients where their beliefs about what they can or can’t do becomes their reality.

I’ve had clients who’ve truly believed they couldn’t lose weight, so they didn’t.

After some work together, that belief changed, and the weight fell off.

I’ve also had clients who were doing AMAZING in their health and fitness but struggled with body image issues.

They would tell themselves they were “fat.”

And their bodies started reflecting that, even with no changes to their good habits.

Really listen to the thoughts you’re sharing with your body.

Visualise yourself living as the person you want to be,

Do so deliberately.

And do it as often as you need to.

It gets easier and stronger every time.

We take motivation from all kinds of sources.

Don’t forget that your inner voice is one of them.

⌚ The Next 30 Minutes ⌚

We often make choices based on immediate outcomes.

"What can I do to experience a little happiness in the next 30 minutes?"

"What can I accomplish in the next hour?"

But if you always expect to get a little bit of reward for a little bit of effort......
.....then you often overlook actions that lead to greater payoffs down the road.

Take weight loss for example:

The course of action that could provide greater happiness, results or satisfaction in the long run.....
.......may not make you happy in the next 30 minutes.

BUT will absolutely be worth it.

And will give you that much need motivation to keep doing the things you need to do to get to your goal.

✔️ So do that short workout you don't want to do
✔️ Go for that walk you don't have time for
✔️ Cook that healthy dinner that you're too tired to make
✔️ Choose a healthier snack rather than that 3pm chocolate bar

Do this consistently and the pay-off you receive will be huge.

🙃 Your approach to weight loss is all WRONG

Earlier I wrote about how the basics work for weight loss.

Simple changes that make a big difference.

Instead of complicated diets that are impossible to stick to.

Did you know that most people's approach weight loss all wrong?

Without even realising it?

Why?

Because we've been brainwashed by so-called diet 'hacks'.

❌ Don't eat after 6pm
❌ Don't eat carbs
❌ Don't eat between certain hours
❌ Don't eat fat
❌ Don't eat sugar
❌ Don't drink caffeine etc....

Do you see the pattern here?

They all involve 'cutting out' foods/food groups or removing food altogether.

Which causes us to feel restricted, deprived & like a failure if we don't follow the rules 100%.

And the more we deprive ourselves of something...

The more we want it.

So how about approaching weight loss from a totally different angle?

Instead of REMOVING certain foods from your diet...

(Along with any enjoyment from your life)

Why not focus on ADDING healthier foods to what you're already eating?

➕ ADD more protein to your meals

➕ ADD more veggies to your plate

➕ ADD a glass of water before your tea or coffee

Instead of changing WHAT you're having.

Just add some good stuff to your plate (literally).

☕ Still drink your coffee......just have a pint of water beforehand.
🍷 Still have your glass of wine.....just have less and top it up with soda water.
🍔 Still enjoy your ready meal......just add some veggies to the side.
🍽️ Still eat out.......just choose a source of protein with your chips.

With more good stuff going in, there's less room for the not-so-healthy options.

This simple shift in our approach - & mindset - makes a HUGE difference.

And it's the approach I advocate with my clients when they start out.

I cannot tell you the relief they feel when they realise they can add more to their diet, not less.

And they finally have a plan that feels DOABLE.

Mastering the basics is a game changer.

❤️ Client Shout Out - Katy ❤️

Today I am giving a huge shout out to my client Katy.

Katy joined my 4 week weight loss kick start programme in August and is celebrating a huge 9.9lb loss 🎉 in less than a month!

❌ This is why you don't need weight loss 'hacks'

When weight loss fails us time and time again, we always look for the next miracle plan.

Hoping that this will be 'the one' that works.

But rather than weight, all we end up losing is money, time and another painful chunk of self-belief.

But here's the thing:

There are no legitimate weight loss hacks (despite the internet telling you otherwise.)
Why?

Because losing weight isn’t a simple, hackable problem.

There are many interconnected factors such as:

🌀 physical
🌀 psychological
🌀 social
🌀 environmental
🌀 emotional
....that influence our ability to lose weight.

And here’s the ironic part:

Most “diet hacks,” “quick fixes,” & “easy solutions” actually make weight loss even harder than it needs to be.

They tend to promote overly restrictive rules that:

⛔ cut out carbs or sugar
⛔ restricts or bans the foods you love
⛔ demonize fat or meat
⛔ moralize food choices (implying there’s a “right” & “wrong” way to eat)
⛔ encourage 100% compliance

Approaches that are simply not sustainable.

So you fail again and again.

This is NOT what you need.

You need SIMPLE, ACHIEVEABLE and SUSTAINABLE strategies.

You need to go back to the basics.

Now simple doesn't mean EASY...

(If it was easy, we'd all be living a diet-free life & I'd be out of a job 🤣).

But it's what WORKS.

And if you're not mastering the basics - how can you expect to follow more complex diets?

No wonder you fail.

But it's not your fault.

And this is why I offer another approach.

One that fosters lasting behaviour & habit change.

So you can lose weight & keep it off for LIFE.

I focus on easy changes.

Ones that you can do consistently.

While still enjoying the foods you love.

Rather than complicated plans that you can only stick to for a week.

Today we are celebrating my client Lucy's success on my 12 week weight loss coaching programme.

Not just physically, but mentally and emotionally too.

You see, when we put a sole focus on how to lose weight, we can come up with so many different avenues.

It becomes a game of "try this and that" or "am I on the right track or not."

We overthink it and obsess about the next quick-fix.​

The REAL SECRET to weight loss comes when you.......

STOP FOCUSING ON WEIGHT LOSS!!

My clients' success comes when they quit worrying about what the scale says.

(Take Gabby for example who lost 11lb in 6 weeks without even realising it!!)

Their success comes when they get out of their own head.​

Their success comes when they STOP focusing on WHEN they're going to fail again.

Success shows up when we tackle the root cause of our emotional eating, self-sabotage tendencies and negative self-belief.​

Mum of 2 Deepa contacted me last month looking for a kick-start to get fitter and in better shape.

Time was a concern for her and being able to fit it in around her personal commitments. So a flexible programme was a must, along with daily accountability from me to keep her on track.

After having a chat through options, Deepa decided to join my 4 week programme as it fitted with her lifestyle, work and kids and gave her much-needed structure and accountability.

From the outset, she embraced everything that was given to her and within the first week, was starting to see and feel results!

4 weeks later, Deepa has:

✅ Lost 9.4lbs
✅ Dropped 12 inches

Things that ARE hard:

😭 Living life feeling miserable & deprived of enjoyment & happiness

😭 Waking up and hating what you see in the mirror every day

😭 Not being able to run around and keep up with your kids

😭 Doing the same thing and getting the same results

😭 Waiting until motivation kicks in to be fitter and healthier

😭 Feeling guilty & beating yourself up every time you enjoy a treat

😭 Using food as an emotional crutch

😭 Living in your comfort zone and never becoming the person you dream of being

I hear how hard the first list is all the time from clients.

And I'm not denying that these DO feel hard to them.

But I want to give you some perspective with this post…

❓ Would you rather avoid facing your fears and stay stuck in a viscous cycle of short term success and long term failure?
