Hi All,
I’m taking time off next week. My yoga classes should be covered, but if you’re unsure please check as I don’t want anyone to have a wasted journey. I’m back teaching at the leisure centres from Tuesday 10th September. I’ll be back at the salon the same week. I got another glimpse of the Northern Lights last night. In picture 1 you can see purple beams, not a big showing, but visible. The second photo taken within minutes of the first and the levels had dropped. However, a clear photo of the stars, planets and perhaps a meteorite.
I, no doubt, could have got better shots if I jumped into my car and drove to the beach, away from light pollution. Instead, I opted to remain in my garden in my pjs snapping a few shots! Did any of you see the show last night?

It’s Love Parks week (26th July - 4th August). It highlights ‘the vital role green spaces play in boosting the health and wellbeing of residents and communities.’
We are so lucky to have numerous parks in this area, these pictures were taken at Birkenhead Park. I find walking in nature therapeutic and it forms part of my self-care routine.
Staying active, daily exercise such as walking outdoors has been linked to improved mental health. Moving the body can stimulate the senses and help to shift thoughts away from repetitive or negative patterns and dissipate stress hormones. How do you support your health and wellbeing? Happy Anniversary Nikki @ Soul to Sole 🎉
10 years ago today I started Soul to Sole. I started at a chiropodist’s salon, Head to Toe in Moreton. I’ve included a photo of my first room there. I was based there for four years, before relocating to my current room at Studio 41 in Hoylake. I’ve been here 6 years now!
Previous to this I was working full time as a Research Manager at a market research company. While working full time I trained as a level 4 Yoga teacher, and enrolled at college and attended evening classes to train in Reflexology. I attained a VTCT Level 3 qualification in Reflexology.
It was a leap of faith leaving my full time office job and becoming self employed. However, it’s not a decision I’ve regretted!
Over this time I’ve invested in my professional development and am trained not only in Hatha Yoga but Yin Yoga and Chair Yoga. I’m now Level 5 trained in Maternity Reflexology and offer other holistic therapies including Reiki, therapeutic body massage, pregnancy massage, Indian head massage, Reflexology Lymph Drainage, Facial Reflexology, hot stone therapies, Hopi ear candling and Ayurveda…

It’s Women’s Health Week.
It’s aimed at encouraging women of all ages to focus on their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
Walking is therapeutic and helps support our physical and mental health. Getting out into nature, utilising our green spaces and parks. We’re lucky, in this area as we also have a beautiful coastline.
How we support our health and wellbeing varies from woman to woman, whether it’s walking in nature, running, yoga, going to the gym, focusing on hobbies and interests or holistic treatments. What works for you?

Osteoarthritis is one of the most common types of arthritis. It is a degenerative condition. The most accessible form of treatment for osteoarthritis is exercising, getting fitter and stronger as it can help repair the joints.

In Ayurveda, a Dosha is our mind-body type. It is our blueprint. It describes our personalities, tendencies and physical nature. The three doshas are: Vata, Pitta and Kapha (Tridoshas).
We all have our own unique combination, it determines our Ayurvedic constitution. We all have one prominent dosha. Do you know yours? Or from the descriptions provided below, can you identify yours?

Shoulder mobility exercises practiced in Chair Yoga this week. I demonstrate why the movement is important, and why we require it; activities for daily living (please watch until the end).
I usually get a few raised eyebrows when I demonstrate Cow Face arms (Gomukhasana)! However, I request everyone works within their own range of movement and with awareness. I teach this particular movement in three levels and people stop off at whatever level is right for them.

It’s Mental Health Awareness Week. How do you take care of yourself?
This is me this morning, feeling refreshed and chilled, my skin glowing after having a facial treatment. Holistic treatments, yoga, meditation, walking, reading a good book are a few of the activities that I personally find helps me.
The theme this year is ‘Movement: Moving More for our Mental Health.’ Our bodies and minds are connected so looking after ourselves physically can support our mental health. Exercise releases endorphins, that make us feel good and can help reduce feelings of stress and anger.
Whether it’s walking, cycling, running, yoga, the gym…get your body moving. Take care of yourselves. Nikki 🙏🏻

I stopped off at the beach on my way home from teaching Yoga. I paused to admire the sunset, the warmth of the sun on my face, the breeze on my skin, focusing my gaze on the horizon. A great way to connect with nature. How do you connect with nature? Take care of yourselves. Nikki 🙏🏻
I have clients who book in regularly for holistic therapy treatments as part of their self-care routine. I also practice what I teach and book in regularly for holistic treatments. In addition I practice and teach Yoga. I use therapies and yoga to support my health and wellbeing; physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.
I would advise to find out what works for you, we all experience peaks and troughs in life. Identify what to include in your ‘DIY bag’ to help support you, transform barriers into bridges, stumbling blocks into stepping stones. It’s hard to do when you’re at crisis point, there is no magic pill or one size fits all, it’s determining what works for you.
What would you include in your DIY bag? Pause for a moment, slowdown, protect your time and energy, take time for yourself, ask yourself what and who are important to you? What are your interests and hobbies? Does exercise help you release stress? Maybe meditating or working with the breath? A therapeutic massage? Journaling? Schedule in time in your diary.
Sit with your thoughts, become more emotionally resilient. Talk to people you trust for advice or to talk through issues you may be experiencing. Take care of yourselves. Nikki 🙏🏻

It was a lovely Spring day, a break from the rain and wind experienced of late, it was the perfect opportunity to go for a walk. What have you been up to over the weekend? Take care of yourselves! Nikki 🙏🏻
It’s Spring and many of you may be feeling the effects of hay fever. If you’re experiencing symptoms now, you’re allergic to tree pollen.
If you’re experiencing symptoms such as; congestion, itchy eyes, throat, nose and ears, loss of smell and hearing… Hopi ear candling combined with a lymphatic drainage facial can help alleviate your symptoms.
It can help draw out excess ear wax, balance the pressure in the ears, forehead and sinuses, promotes lymphatic drainage and can improve the sense of smell and hearing.
Other practical self-help tips include, putting petroleum jelly around your nostrils to trap pollen, wearing wraparound sunglasses to stop pollen getting into your eyes and having a shower and washing your clothes after going outside to wash the pollen off.

I posted this on Insta over 6 years ago when I moved my holistic therapy business from Moreton to Hoylake.
I started my business in 2014. In July of this year, it will be the 10th anniversary of Nikki at Soul to Sole.
A lot has changed over this time, particularly after Covid and I’ve had to adapt my business in order to keep it viable.
For instance, I now work by appointment only. I had to reduce costs, for example, I no longer pay for a phone line, all of my appointments are via social media/website/email or face to face - rolling appointments every 2/4/6 weeks.
I’ve tried to keep my prices reasonable and have only raised my prices twice over this 10 year period, the most recent in January 2023. Despite investing money and time in my continued professional development.
I was originally Level 3 trained in Reflexology, subsequently receiving further training including: Reflexology Lymph Drainage (RLD), Facial Reflexology and Level 5 training in Maternity Reflexology. I have also up-skilled my massage therapies to include Indian Head Massage, Aromatherapy Massage, hot and cold stone massage therapies and Ayurvedic Foot Massage.
I am also a BWY Level 4 Diploma trained Yoga Teacher, and have undertaken further training in Mindfulness and Pranayama (breath control), in Yin Yoga, Ayurveda and most recently in Chair Yoga (BWYQ Level 4 Certificate in Teaching Gentle Years Yoga).

I went for a walk to the beach last night after sunset, pausing first of all to admire the full moon. I had hoped to get photos of the aurora borealis, after receiving a red alert on my app.
However, Mother Nature wasn’t playing ball! Instead I got lungfuls of fresh air, sitting in silence surrounded by birdsong, admiring the view, receiving lots of doggy cuddles and kisses from passing dogs.
If you forgot to leave out your crystals on your windowsill to be recharged, don’t worry the full moon is visible for three days.
A full moon is also a reminder to review your intentions, a prompt for self reflection. Take care of yourselves. Nikki 🙏🏻

I have two new classes starting shortly.
Due to the popularity of my Chair Yoga classes I’ve been asked to teach another. I’m teaching an additional Chair Yoga class and a Mindful Stretching class on Thursdays at the Oval starting from next week, 21/03.
I was advised last week that people have been unable to book onto my Tuesday evening Yoga class at WKC. Today I was told that the maximum number for the class has been increased to 30. I look forward to seeing you at class. Take care of yourselves. Nikki 🧘🏼♀️🪑
