I have serviced it through for the owner who has owned it since 1984 and is now moving home and can’t take it with her. Very easy to play action and lovely vintage Bechstein tone. £3,995. This stunning 1982 Steinway model 'A' has just been through the workshop for servicing and preparation for Coach House Pianos. It has had very little use from new and is totally original.

This fabulous 2003 Steinway model 'B' that belongs to Coach House Pianos has been in the workshop for some attention before going to their New Kings Road store in London.

This fabulous Steinway model D has come in to be prepared and sold. Only 20 years old and still in mint condition having been carefully looked after and sparingly used from new.

How we were years ago. A highly unusual delivery of a Steinway to an island.

I have not posted anything much on this page recently but I’m still here and still at work! The latest new top action fitted to a Steinway model A. I have a whole stack of similar work lined up so will keep at it.

Making a change from the endless ebonised Steinways I get to work on is this very nice late 1930’s model B grand in a mahogany veneer casework. I have fitted a new top action to the restored piano and it’s available for sale in the next few weeks.

I’m delighted to have this fabulous almost new Steinway model B available. Truly beautiful instrument.

Pianos for sale Oxfordshire, UK Steinway model B - 211 manufactured in Hamburg in 2017. This is a fine chance to purchase a very fresh model B that is in mint condition. It has had very little use from new and is a fabulous instrument with a glorious full bodied tone.

1989 Steinway D restoration just completed. This is the final job until September following 10 months of very busy work. A small rest is required before a list of 6 B grands & one D grand make their way to our workshops.

1985 Steinway model D restoration completed on target time. This piano belongs to Duet Leasing & Finance for whom we carry out quite a bit of Steinway restoration, overhaul & service work. I have been the technical director of Duet (formerly Mifco) since 2006, Duet now has a considerable number of Steinways on long term lease.

This will be the view for some great pianists during the next two weeks at The Chipping Campden Music Festival - Steinway serviced yesterday for Lucy Parham, Cedric Tiberghien, Steven Osborne, Ben Frith, Martin Cousin, Imogen Cooper, Alfred Brendel, Paul Lewis, Julius Drake & many more.

One of several Steinways here at present is the model D from the Dartington International Summer Festival www.dartington.org
It has been fitted with a new top action, keyboard servicing and has seen partial restringing. No doubt it will get well used this summer and carefully maintained by piano technician Dan Carney.

The final job completed in the workshop for this financial year, a cheerful little Steinway model M from 1987 that has had a new action frame and hammers/shanks fitted. This piano is for sale from Coach House Pianos in SWANSEA for whom I have carried out the work.

Happy Easter to all the followers of this page. This stunning 1977 Hamburg Steinway model B has just been completed following a thorough overhaul & is now offered for sale at £54,995. The previous model B that was for sale has been delivered this week so the timing to have this latest Steinway ready is just right.

Despite the bitter cold weather last week work has continued in my workshop. This very nice 1977 Steinway model O belonging to Coach House Pianos has had a new action frame & hammers and shanks fitted. They are asking £29,995 for this piano. There are 6 other Steinways under restoration here so plenty to keep me busy.

Away from Toyger cats & traction engines it's all go in my piano workshop where several Steinways are under restoration. A model D is having a new top action fitted in my photo, one of several lined up for this work.

Back in 2013 I started a series of posts on the Shackell Pianos Ltd Wordpress page called "All new pianos are the same". This was a statement put to me in a conversation with someone and it got me photographing the exclusive 7' grands from the leading makers. For anyone interested you can still access the posts on this page by scrolling down enough.

One high end brand 7' grand piano missed out was the Bosendorfer 214. Now, some years later, I can add the new Bosendorfer 214VC photographed at Coach House Pianos in Swansea who are one of only a couple of retailers for Bosendorfer in the UK.

As with the other 7' grands in the series, Steinway B, Bechstein B, Fazioli 212, the build quality of this new Bosendorfer 214VC is quite outstanding. The VC stands for Vienna Concert and this completely fresh design is limited to the Austrian manufacturers 280 and 214 grands. The whole concept of this design for the 21st century has been closely examined and refined and using technology has brought together the very best from its traditional heritage and yet embraced new forward thinking principles to make this Bosendorfer the most serious of competitors for the top end music conservatoire instrument.

There are only a handful of the new VC grands in the UK at present but I feel for sure we are going to see and hear these most delicious sounding instruments in more numbers over the next few years. After a lifetime of working with the Steinway piano your writer has been somewhat stopped in his tracks by this piano and I find myself in need of time to realign my thoughts for the "very best piano in the world" which are most definitely NOT all the same.

This lovely 1928 Bechstein model 9 upright that has been fully restored is for sale via a technician friend. Any interest, do drop me a line.

This fabulous late 1970's Steinway model B has just been completed from an extensive restoration and is now available at £49,995 including VAT. New casework polyester, pin block, top action and key coverings. There is something rather special about this vintage of Hamburg Steinways and it has been a pleasure to restore.

With the imminent closure of the retail part of Shackell Pianos Ltd this lovely little 1943 Steinway S grand will be one of the last to offer from our Witney showrooms. Beautiful little piano in every way. £25,000

So few pianos Long overdue I know, but an explanation of why there are so few pianos being offered for sale by Shackell Pianos Ltd at present. The fact is, Jeffrey Shackell is looking to retire from retail piano sales. Our sales record from our lovely building…
