Charity shop

31/05/2024

A big thank you goes out to everyone who already donates to our shop and Wildlife Rescue Centre! Our charity shops raise the majority of the funds needed to run our Wildlife Rescue Centre, pay the bills and our staff. Without our shops there wouldn’t be RSPCA Oak and Furrows. To raise funds, we need good quality donations to sell.

There’s the old saying ‘if you don’t ask, you don’t get’. We are asking you, our wonderful supporters, to please have a clear out and bring the clothes you no longer wear, and household items you no longer use along to our charity shops. Your generous donations can help us raise much needed funds and ensure a second chance for injured, unwell and orphaned wildlife. We have ten charity shops located across the North Wiltshire and Newbury District, to find your closest shop click the link below:

Don't forget, if you're a UK taxpayer you can Gift Aid your donations for free and we can claim an additional 25% from the sale of your donated goods from the government!

We currently have a number of fox cubs at the Centre, last week a litter of four came to us after their den was disturbed and mum did not return.

For those who don't know, it can be easy to assume that wildlife isn't using structures in your garden, especially that degraded old shed that looks like it may collapse at any moment. However to the fox, that old shed is an ideal space to dig an earth; it's sheltered and rotting wood attracts invertebrates which attracts other prey.

If you need to move a shed please look for signs of fox activity first, especially while vixens are nursing cubs in earths. Look for an entrance hole and flattened vegetation. If you’re unsure whether a den is being used, then cover part of the entrance with loose soil or sticks. This still allows foxes to come and go but if the soil or sticks haven't moved after a few days, the den should be empty.

If you have an confirmed an active fox earth, please wait until the end of summer before demolishing structures above it. This will give the cubs time to mature and leave the earth.

Lacking weekend plans? Why not pop into one of our ten charity shops this Saturday for a good old treasure hunt. We now have several fabulous lines of new goods ranging from furniture and décor to wildlife products such as nest boxes, as well as our classic pre-loved items.

In the words of Paolo Nutini,

Hey, I put some new shoes on
And suddenly everything's right
I said, hey, I put some new shoes on
And everybody's smiling, it's so inviting
Oh, short on money but long on time
Slowly strolling in the sweet sunshine
And I'm running late and I don't need an excuse
'Cause I'm wearing my brand new shoes…..
