Miss Goodgame’s maths group have been learning all about co-ordinates this week. They put their new learning to the test by finishing off the week with a game of Battleships 🛳️ Great work everyone!
This week the children in Scafell Pike have been writing a diary entry for their independent write. The children have been learning the structure and format of a diary entry and have written from the perspective of a character using first person writing.
In music this week, Snowdon have developed their knowledge of music notation. The children interpreted sheet music and then played the melodies to identify which of their class favourites each line was from. They celebrated by singing these songs together at the end! 🎶🎼🎵
We are delighted to announce that we have achieved the School Games GOLD Mark Award for the 2023/24 academic year.
The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.
Our sporting achievements this year include:

• Entered 12 Events (54 children have represented the school)
• Bikeability for 30 Y6 children 🚴♀️

Year 5 have been focusing on ‘Expressionism’ in their art lessons this term. They have looked at artists such as Edvard Munch to explore the use of colour and how it is used to convey information. The children have worked hard to create wonderful expressionist self-portraits and this week used oil pastels to add colour to their work.
This morning Blencathra visited a synagogue as part of their RE curriculum. They have been learning about the Judaism and in particular focusing on the celebration of Shabbat and Rosh Hashanah.
WE ARE CHAMPIONS!!!🏆🥇🎯 Well done to our Archery team who won the Witney Soft Archery Competition, winning 6 games and losing 1. A great team performance.
Year 6 have been working on making buildings in DT lessons. The class have been learning about architecture, focusing on how the Ancient Greeks used columns for strength and style, and how architectural styles have evolved through the ages. Today they used junk modelling materials to construct buildings based on their designs. Next week they will test them for strength – hopefully they’ll still be standing!
Our Year 2 children had a super time at the Witney Partnership Ultra Olympics Event this afternoon!

Following on from Blencathra’s visit to the coast this week, the children have begun building their own beach huts out of lolly sticks for their design and technology project ‘Beach huts’ 🛖 ☀️
Well done to our Year 6 Boys' Cricket team for a superb performance in today's Witney Schools' Competition. They worked so hard together and grew with confidence in each game. They won 4 and lost 2, finishing in 3rd place. They loved it so much, they've headed to the park to carry on playing!!! 🏏🏏🏏

Well done to the Year 5 and 6 Girls' cricket team in their tournament today. They learnt new bowling and batting skills as well as showcasing incredible teamwork. They were chuffed with themselves 🏏🏏🏏
Everest Class have been developing turn-taking whilst playing this week. They have played Guess Who, Noughts and Crosses, Top Trumps amongst many other games. One of the highlights was Chess. ♟🎲🧩
In PE this week, Miss Goodgame led Mount Fuji on an obstacle course creation lesson as part of our Outdoor Adventures and Activities unit. The lesson focus involves using non- verbal and verbal communication and team work to solve a variety of team challenges. The class used a wide variety of resources from the PE shed to create imaginative, challenging and entertaining courses for each other to try out, to great success and hilarity. Fabulous work from everyone!
Well done to our Year 5 Boys Cricket team who took part in the West Oxon tournament today. They showed amazing teamwork, outstanding sportsmanship and represented the school incredibly well, as always 🏏🏏🏅
Snowdon have been focusing on spelling this week, learning the common exception words for year 3 and 4 through games and challenges. The children can win an achievement postcard if they complete their bookmark by correctly using 15 of the words in their work. 🤩
In Blencathra this week the children have started their new class book ‘The Hodgeheg’ which is all about a little hedgehog called Max who is learning how to cross the road. They are loving their adventure with Max and also learning new vocabulary along the way. The children have made sure they’ve all had their weekly library visit to get new books to read to you at home! 🦔 📕
Well done to our Year 5 and 6 Netball team. They battled hard in their league matches against Aston and Blake, winning 1 and losing 1 🏐🏅
