The relationship between a horse and its rider goes beyond mere interactions; it's a profound connection that touches the soul. Trust, communication, and respect are the pillars that uphold this bond, creating a partnership that transcends the physical realm. Through this unique connection, horse and rider embark on a journey of mutual growth, understanding, and love, enriching each other's lives in ways that words cannot fully capture. It's a dance of souls, a silent conversation of hearts, where two beings become one in spirit, united in a bond that is truly magical and deeply meaningful.

From first lesson, to first pony(well in this case horse). We have had one fantastic year getting to know Lola and her family, and thank you to her family for trusting us to do what we do best. Making dreams come true. With thanks to the ever talented Chris Dyson for knowing exactly which horse would be the right fit and making the whole process so easy. We look forward to stepping Lola’s dreams up to the next level with the beautiful Dolce!

🦷🐴 Today was an important day for our horses, some of our horses had their dental check-ups! Dentistry is crucial for maintaining a horse’s overall health and well-being. Just like us, horses can experience dental issues that affect their ability to eat, perform, and live comfortably.

Regular dental care prevents sharp edges, infections, and tooth loss, ensuring our horses can chew their food properly and maintain good digestion. It also helps avoid behavioral issues caused by dental pain.

Taking care of their teeth is one of the many ways we ensure our horses live happy, healthy lives!

Riding a horse after a fall can be a daunting experience, filled with a mix of fear and determination. The mental block that follows a fall can be overwhelming, making every moment leading up to getting back in the saddle feel like an eternity. Despite the nerves, there's a deep sense of knowing that you have to conquer this fear and push past the mental barriers that hold you back.

The moment you decide to face your fear and mount the horse again is a testament to your resilience and courage. It's a battle within yourself, fighting the doubts and anxieties that linger from the fall. Each step towards the horse is a step towards overcoming that mental block, a step towards reclaiming your confidence and trust in yourself and your equine partner.

As you finally sit on the horse, the rush of emotions can be overwhelming, but there's also a sense of empowerment that comes with facing your fears head-on. Riding after a fall is not just about physical skill; it's a mental challenge that tests your grit and determination. It's a reminder that sometimes the biggest obstacles we face are the ones within our minds, and by pushing past them, we emerge stronger and more resilient riders. A small stab in the heart is what you feel when you put up the day's riding list and you see riders sinking heavily in their shoulders when reading which horse they are assigned for the lesson. A small stab in the heart for that horse that for an hour will carry around a rider who has already decided that he does not like his horse. A small stab in the heart for the horse that did not choose the rider himself but still does his best, lesson after lesson.

Riding is a privilege and something you have chosen to do. If you chose to ride at a riding school, your instructor assumes that you actually want to learn how to ride. The instructor's highest wish is that you get good at it.

Often there is a plan and a thought as to why you are assigned to that exact horse. Before you mount up next time, ask yourself "what can this horse teach me today?" All horses have something to give, a feeling or a new tool in the box.

The art is actually in being able to get a lazy horse to move forward, to get an uncertain horse to gain confidence, a naughty horse to focus or a tense horse to be released. It takes work. If you think a horse is boring, it's more likely that you don't ride the horse as well as you think! It's not easy to be confronted with your own shortcomings, but it is in that very situation that you get the chance to truly grow as a rider.

The excuse that "it's not my kind of horse" is actually a really bad excuse. A good rider can ride any kind of horse. A good rider has trained many hours on different types of horses to become a good rider. A good rider can find and manage the gold nuggets in every horse.

If we absolutely want to ride, it is our duty to strive to do it as best as possible, even if it's only for fun. We owe it to every horse that carries us upon it's back.

Copied and shared with love for all of our horses, ponies and riders 🐎❤🐎

‘Why is Every Horse Lame?’

Lately, I’ve been hearing the question, “why is every horse lame?” more and more often. As someone who helps clients find horses, even with five-figure budgets and the simple need for a horse that’s safe and sound. I’m facing a tough reality. Most horses I check are lame, and those that seem okay often fail the vet exam. So, what’s really happening?

Is it:
‘The Cost of Living Crisis’
With the economy in a rough spot, many horse owners are delaying vet visits for minor issues, hoping they’ll get better on their own. Sadly, these small problems often turn into bigger ones, leading to more lame horses.

Awareness. Too Little or Too Much?
Could it be that we’re more aware of lameness now? Increased awareness might mean more horses are being diagnosed. On the other hand, some owners might not spot the early signs of lameness, letting conditions get worse before doing anything about it. This mix is making it seem like lameness is everywhere.

Changes in How We Use Horses
Have we changed how we use our horses in ways that might not be beneficial them? Every day there is a new study on correct training or different methods, are the new ways truely better? Are the different riding styles, and new management practices causing more lameness. Are we pushing our horses too hard or in ways that aren’t good for them? Too much time in the school? The move away from road work/ uneven terrain?

The Frustration of the Search
Imagine spending months looking for the perfect horse, only to find that most are lame or fail vet checks. It’s discouraging, time-consuming, and expensive. The costs of traveling to see horses and paying for vet checks are making people less interested in owning horses.

Will We Ever Know?
Will we ever truly understand why so many horses are lame? The answer might be in better education for owners, rethinking how we use our horses, and making vet care more affordable. But until we tackle these problems, the question will keep bothering us: why is every horse lame?

We need solve this issue. Only through a group effort can we hope to reduce lameness and ensure a healthier future for our horses. Betsy

Why do we bang on about TopSpec horse feeds?

TopSpec horse feeds allow us to keep our horses feeling and looking fantastic.

Their unique balancer system allows us to feed our good doers a balanced diet with 0 extra calories as well as having a huge range of products for those who need a little help.

TopSpec actually works out more affordable for our school horses than feeding basic feed stuffs as although bags are expensive the quantity needed is much lower. We have Camilla Mulholland out every 6months to check our horses weights, condition and energy level and taylor everyone’s diet, as well as the helpline just on the end of the phone if anything needs adjusting in between. They also offer great discounts each month and tokens per bag which is a big customer incentive and if you ask really nicely they send you bonuses 😍😍😍😍😍

What a crazy weekend for Betsy with her other hat on. A weekend in her favourite place on the planet at the Connemara Pony Sales Clifden 2024 where she helped buy this complete beauty for one of our clients. A face you’ll all see around once he steps of the lorry. An incredible experience made exponentially easier with the help of the fantastic Padraic Heanue. Let us know if you’d help buying a pony (especially a Connemara pony) and we can talk you through the process of buying with Betsy.
600 beautiful pony’s to choose for and we got our pick of the lot from Seamus Biesty of Biesty Sport Horses. Thor has exactly the personality and experience that was so important to this client!
