Hi Guys, I’m Alex the new owner of M2 studios! Firstly would like to say a big thank you to Mark for this incredible opportunity to take over the facility.

A bit of an intro about me, I started out at Chapel Studios in Lincolnshire and from there went on to work for Grammy winning producer Ian Dowling (Adele, Kasabian, The Kooks). After going solo as a producer in my own right I have produced a number one album for the band As December Falls alongside gaining BBC radio one plays for almost every artist I’ve worked with so far. Check out my website www.alexcoppmusic.com if you want to know more!

I’m so excited to be able to welcome people into M2 studios and I’m now taking bookings for the rest of the year so if you would like a spot either drop me a message or an email and let’s book something in!

Warning! Long Post!!

Some people may already know but I have sold the M2 Studios business.

The new owner is going to upgrade the facility and the studio will still be commercially available for bands, groups, artistes, voice overs i.e. anything that needs recording, or mixing. The new owner is a well-respected music producer engineer and no doubt he will promote his acquisition accordingly. I will tell you more about him in a later post.

So, what happens to me now? Well, I have sold up as I did not want the stress and workload of running a business and so now I can “semi-retire”. I will however, continue to work as a freelance engineer/ producer and have negotiated a great dry hire rate with the new owner so I can still use and work at the same studio as before but on his T & Cs. Therefore, should you still wish to work with me I can use the studio for recording drums, loud stuff, some vocals, anything really. I will also carry on recording my own material, which hopefully will get a public airing later in the year. I will have a professional set up at home which will enable me to do various overdubs, re-amping, program, editing, tuning, mix and mastering but not with the toil of worrying if I earn enough to pay the rent and pay the bills.

What about the Sheenius you may ask? Sheena has decided to walk away from the music business and is currently looking for a new vocation. This I reckon, will be a great loss to the recording world as I consider her a fantastic engineer, mixer, arranger, producer but it is her decision and then the worry of whether there is enough work for her, will stop. On that matter, should there be anyone out there who could offer her, or point her to, a potential position then please feel free to contact her. It has been a massive privilege to have worked with her for some 20 years or so and her track record to be honest is quite amazing, this of course includes engineering and mixing many Magnum albums.

I shall be retaining the studio archives. Any sessions done in the last 20 years or so there is a 90% chance I will still have the multitrack sessions, mixes/ masters. I also have some mixes from the Walsall studio (25 years ago), the Stafford Road (around 40 years ago) one and even a few from Stanway studios in Wednesbury era of the late 80s. So, if you wanted some old mixes remastering or put on another digital media I may be able to help.
On other matters, I have a few items for sale which will be appearing on a few Facebook groups, in fact some are there now. Just a brief summary of what is being sold, there are a few pairs of monitors (speakers to some of you), some guitar amps, a few odd bits of old outboard, a few old mac computers, some flight cases, an X32 Desk with 2 cases, analogue split, multicore, and other odds and ends.

Contact details will change in due course. The process of transition and the upgrade may take a week or so. The madhat email addresses will initially be used by the new business but will likely change in the fullness of time. The M2 Studios’ Meta business page will transfer to the new owner and there will be a shiny new website (m2recordingstudios.co.uk) coming soon too. I will retain madhat.co.uk and change it to my needs later. If anyone does not already have my private (non-madhat) email and would like it for future reference just let me know. My mobile number will stay the same so I can still be contacted on that as well as my private email address and via messenger under this account.

Please, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me for sessions or anything really as I am sure I can help in the future.

I have had a great 40 odd years recording people from all over the world in all genres of music. I’m not going to stop, just slow down a little!
