Sensitively repairing both sides of this wattle and daub wall, this side will not be seen but it will be in the future so we have matched the original earth mortar to the hazel wattle with a fine haired putty skim to finish in the next week or so, the other side will be the feature wall and is dated to circa 1650 so really looking forward to conserving this beautifully simple fabric.
Final coats on the past couple days and looking amazing
Internal h**p lime panels on cork board, 6 of 65 to be carried out on this 18th century barn and farmhouse
We’ve recently started Lime bagging this chimney stack which has seen better days, tricky to obtain the best finish because of the deterioration of the stone but highly recommend the premixed mortar by Ty-Mawr lime Ltd
A couple project photos nearing completion, its been great being back at Christchurch College and Oriel College definitely worth postponing other projects to handover these two/three on time and in budget!
Great mortar repair work by my brother today on this doorway at Oriel College, we will now let it cure before toning it in to completely blend in and go unnoticed
Historic stone floor recorded, lifted and set aside for installation in July, new trench hand excavated under a strict Archaeological watching brief ready for new cable ducts to be installed for this ongoing project, sadly nothing of great significance was found other than the possible origami benching and original floor from circa 1300, on a plus side I did find an old £1 coin from 1991 and a 50p under the ramp I removed that sat above this area!
Finally completed the Veilhan installation now the weather has picked up, looks pretty good in its new position, day off tomorrow, finally, and starting a great lime render/stucco project on Thursday, very much looking forward to standing up all day for a change and posting updates on our new project.
Finally completed this project, the umbrellas have been moved 40ft to the right so that Xavier Veilhans 2012 ‘La Carouse’ can be moved from outside the aviary at Waddesdon down to windmill hill archives at Waddesdon, I’m not going to lie it’s been a hard project but the end results are great, thanks to Lee Hester for helping me out on this one.
Just about finished moving these amazing pieces of art by Sir Michael Craig-Martin, doesn’t seem much but the end result is always the same......... looks like it’s always been there!
Four Shires Historic Conservaion Ltd are hiring.......
Trainee/Labourer/Apprentice required to work alongside our head Stonemason, a great opportunity for the right person, this post would suit a person with an interest in heritage buildings and architecture along with a hard working ethic and not scared to get covered in dust, applications to [email protected]
All finished and ready for the M&E works before we return to carry out the final clean of the floor and lower stonework, this project has been challenging but the end results are more than worth it.
Easy when you nose what you are doing! Before and after pics.
Before, during and after pictures of this area that we have just completed. It doesn’t look like much but each piece was cut to suit the surrounding areas so that when the whole floor is finally polished it looks like it has always been there, final pictures to follow in April
Dusting the cobwebs off this beautiful vaulted ceiling, the carvings up there are so crisp it’s unbelievable, like they were made yesterday and not 500 years ago!
Nice little internal lime plastering project inside this beautiful 12th century Chapter House to begin 2021!
